This is meant to make it easier for players to get their first taste of lowsec space. I'm only a three week old player, so I might not have the insights into the details of the matter that older players have, but I do have the view of someone who is currently considering going into lowsec more often.
That said, my biggest mental problem with going into lowsec is the idea that dragons *erm* gatecampers wait just behind the gate as I jump into the lowsec system. That problem could be dissolved if CONCORD would patrol the other side of the gate.
I think once a new player looses the fear of that first step, the following steps will be easier (going to a station, maybe to a belt, doing stuff in the border region between high and lowsec and finally going even deeper into lowsec to someday reach 0.0). So, by gradually allowing players to accustom themselves to lowsec live, you'd end up with more players in lowsec (and thus with *more* chancces for pirates to make their hits as well, even though they can no longer camp the gates into highsec).

I would tend to disagree, inasmuch as lowsec is pretty empty and pirates sort of have to stick around the lowsec-hisec gates to find targets. That said, they really need to significantly boost sentries, theyre still operating under old school rules that didnt account for things like carriers and tier3 BS. Something in particular Id like to see is a sentry that sensor damps all hostiles around the gate to cut down on the guys who instapop shuttles all day cause that **** is just lame. Also an anti-capital sentry that does very high damage but only to ships with massive sigradius...like a sentry version of XL guns. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

That will only change if more players go there. By making it easier to do that.
Pirating on 10% of 1000 players will yield you more targets than pirating on 90% of 100 players. I don't see how my suggestion could be viewed as pirate unfriendly?

The answer is warp to zero and local. WTZ means if you camp you can only get guys leaving the gate, so you have 50% less targets. Furthermore you only have a short time to lock+scram as its relatively easy for most ships to align to something and get out. Again, a lot less targets which means you gotta camp a *very* well traveled gate to get viable targets, and even with a lot more people roaming lowsec travel routes are decentralized such that a jump or two from highsec and you wont get much activity. The problem with local is of course that you can see -10's in system and thus hide, making belt piracy rather difficult and basically forcing people to camp.
That being said, if a bevy of changes were made to balance other stuff (like the above problems) so that neither pirates or their prey get a huge advantage, what you suggest might be possible. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?
