For me it has to be Tullan from the Archlord soundtrack, performed by the london symphony orchestra the soundtrack is possibly the best aspect of that MMO especially this theme which stuck with me long after playing it.

Imperial Guard ( Choir and Percussion )
For some reason I really like stuff like this, it just fits battles perfectly, this was before the Warhammer 40k game series got nerfed into oblivion, I can't believe they got rid of base building! I don't even think that the voice actors have the same sort of style they do now :( |

Cid's theme from Final Fantasy 7:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGxnlQ3pgok
If you listen to it from beginning to end it tickles your imagination and puts out some emotion; especially during the actual sequence in the game when it's played. |

First time i played homeworld , the piece of choral music, i was so impressed and so in awe with it it took me a few months before i found out what it was and by who it was and still is one of the best use of music in a videogame , it so brings the tragedy of the whole story into the picture
Surely and indeed one of the greatest american compossers of contemparry classical music of the 20 th century

I kind of have a fetish for game sound tracks, I cannot really pick a single favourite.
Turrican 2 intro Space Hulk intro Deus Ex: HR, Icarus Halo 2 The last Spartan Half Life 2: Episode 2, Sector sweep
That would be a short list though. |

I still get goosebumps when I hear this
Also since I'm older than some here, my most epic game music comes from
Quest for Glory 1 : Erana's Peace I still a cry a bit.
Space Quest 3 (nice bonus adlib/vs Roland Mt32
Also
Wing Commander 1 (I still play sometimes ...)
And
Legend of Kyrandia ... ahhh the memories ...
Bah, you all forced me to launch dos-box again :P
I would post the music from some other games, sadly all the sound they had were pc speaker bleeps :P Inner Sayings of BrujoLoco: http://eve-files.com/sig/brujoloco |

I got three on the top of my list:
Mechwarrior 2 and Mercenaries, yeah, my first place is filled by two full soundtracks.
Final Fantasy VI - Terra's Theme, Final Fantasy X-2 - Eternity: Memory of Lightwaves. These two makes me want to learn to play the piano. Everyone vs. Everyone Online

A videogame music thread and no mention of Touhou yet? That series has an awesome soundtrack. To mention a few:
Touhou 11 stage 5 - Lullaby of deserted hell
Touhou 12 stage 6 boss - Emotional Skyscraper ~ Cosmic Mind
Touhou 10 stage 4 - Fall of fall ~ Autumnal waterfall |

Also, the Skyrim soundtrack is pretty sweet. I know there's another game with a really awesome soundtrack or theme song, but I can't recall it atm.

Zoids for the C64.
IMO never has a piece of music fitted a game so well. The general atmosphere is perfect and the highs and lows of the piece correspond extremely well with the changes and variation of the actual gameplay. The fact that it's from the C64 era of gaming makes the feat even more impressive. There are many other amazing pieces of game music and I certianly love many of the choices people have already posted, but Rob Hubbard and zoids hold the top spot for me. |
