I have run a fair few mission - mostly Ammarr with Caldari in second place. Since the very early days of this character I have run almost no Gallente or Minmatar missions and to the best of my knowledge not a single Ammatar one.
The majority of my faction standings are what you might expect. Amarr best, Caldari pretty good, Gallente minus a little and Minmatar so far down the tubes I really have to think about level 5 diplomacy if I want to be able to fly there much longer.
The odd one is Ammatar. Purely on "derived modifications" it is higher than any other. Yesterday I ran an Ammarr storyline got a 6% Ammarr increase which was pretty nice but a staggerring 6.75% Ammatar !
Now I am not really complaining, one day Ammatar standing might come in useful. However it seems odd that the derived modification for one faction should be better than the increase for the faction whose storyline it was. Having Ammatar as my highest faction standing without haing flown a single mission for them feels wrong.
Any one else feel the same - any other examples ?

Same happened to me, until it hit 9.0 which is the standing Ammatar have vs Amarr. It's odd.

The odd thing is that is deos not work that way with Khanid - my standing with them is less than with Amarr which is what I would expect from a derived modification.

Try that link Linkage
From there you can see what faction likes who and how big are derived standings modifications and where they are capped. This table is not done by me. Just something I bookmarked a while ago.

Thanks for the link. Only had a quick glance but 2 things leapt out at me.
There are 2 "oversized" derived modifications that I could see - Ammarr to Ammatar and Caldari State to Mordus Legion. In both cases you get a bigger derived mod than the actual increase with the main faction. However in neither case does it work in reverse.
So m main question is why the large derived modifications in these two cases - in terms of game mechanics is there a reason ? Secondly are they justified by the game background. Or are they really a miatake that has just never been changed ?

Those are there for roleplay reasons. Mordus like Caldary a lot. Same goes for Ammatar and Amarr.

I don't have an issue with derived modifications - if you do nice things for people then their firends will like you. However these two look rather extreme in that gaining x standing for Amarr gains you x+ with Ammatar (the Caldari-Mordus one is the same).
This leads to oddities - my highest standing being with Ammatar when I have never spoken to them. An Ammatar standing slightly lower than my Amarr one I could understand - but higher strikes me as illogical.

It's the same for Gallente which gets more Sisters of EVE than Gallente standing, it's ridiculous.

From some old comment it seem there is a relative size multiplier, so Ammar is huge, ammatar is small (I suppose) and the multilplier is large, in the other direction it is small.

Take it like this .. its harder to impress the "big cheese" with the same action than to impress the smaller cheese.
