Just wondered if there were any other American Football players also playing EVE who live in the UK. I play for the Shropshire Revolution. A new team in the BAFL. Of course if you play in the US please post too. :)

Is football in Europe taken as seriously as soccer is in America?

BTW, the NFL is pulling the plug on NFL Europe.
No doubt, this will cause the Germans to start another war.

Good. It's about time we had a real war instead of all these pretend ones. CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |

American Football isn't all that big outside of America. Tends to be overshadowed by Rugby, which is aesthetically very similar (yes yes, I know, but try telling a casual fan of one and not the other that).
Soccer, on the other hand, is THE international sport. North America is about the only place in the world that doesn't take it seriously. Rumour has it that it's because you guys suck, and don't want to show yourselves up by competing in a sport the rest of the world plays. These rumours are unsubstantiated slander, and should not be taken seriously at all, no siree bob --------

Mexico and mexicans take football (international) far more seriously then us Americans. Univision television channel, a Spanish language American based company, shows alot more, even USA friendly's, then ESPN.
Tbh, if I wasnt born in USA i'd prolly hate American football too.

since american football is deadly dull, interspersed with moments of excitement, and seems to revolve around knowing a billion statistics about who threw the most yards on tuesdays during may, or which teams draft pick has the biggest combined weight, i'm inclined to agree.

also, uk American Football teams just don't sound as cool as american ones.
Los Angeles Raiders = Cool name (even if they are based on an oilrig off the coast of alaska or something these days)
Shropshire Revolution = Rubbish name.

Actually we play at a rugby club and all the rugby players who tried out ran off back to the easy life of rugby. Unless you have actually put on the kit and took a good hit then you have no idea how tough it is as a sport. As to you other people go hijack someone elses thread and get a life.
Back on topic I guess it seems that contact sports and EVE dont seem to mix. Someone prove me wrong so I know I am not the only one haha.

Well, it'd be just like playing WoW, except you stab yourself with a broad sword every time your character takes a hit. --------

There was a time when American football didn't involve pads. They noticed there were lots of head, neck, and back injuries so they introduced the pads and helmets. If rugby was nearly as brutal as American Football, I'm sure they'd have to wear pads too. Calling American Football players pansies for wearing pads is like calling a hockey goalie a wuss for his pads and face mask.
Most people who play Football in a non-organized (i.e. improvised playground games) manner actually don't wear any pads. Obviously they also don't charge into the other team head first. Its actually the government and the organizers that require the body armor. Just like how non-professional street racers don't wear fire suits.

Are you mad, They have the same Contact but rugby players don't get a ton of padding. American football - I dont wants to get hurt so i wear so much padding a train could hit me and i would feel nothing

are you mad? i don't call anything a sport that centers around physical damage. i thought a sport was all about pushing yourself to the limits without emphasizing screwing up your body permanently.
anyway you guys sound like freaking sissies the way you need to hijack threads and belittle anyone who talks about something you don't like.

Nah, Baseball is the sport that is obsessive about statistics. They are not nearly as important in Football.

Who's hijacking all i said was, theres no need to play american football ine urope cause there is better sports out there, It's like the speacial edd classes with "tag" football isntead of real contact.

rofl, anyone who says american football is a sport for pansies is completely out of their mind (unless you're referring to the place kicker). high level foot ball players are some of the best athletes ive come across. football two-a-days are no joke.
the issue of football players being pansies because they wear pads was covered earlier in the thread, but if you'll notice the amount of serious injuries that occur even with that padding i bet youd change your mind. next time a 260 pound middle line backer who runs a 40 yard dash in under 5 seconds is running straight at you, tell me then that you dont want pads. calling BS on that. first off linebackers are bigger defensive players, not meant to be running down the field. theyre pretty fast guys, but compared to the faster football players, well...theres a reason theyre on defense.
the difference in the way the game is played means that rugby players generally have better endurance, to american football goes the raw power and burst speed which is needed. also keep in mind that in american football, ever position is played by a specialist, whereas in rugby, the players tend to do a bit of everything (well, at least offense and defense, you wont often see a quarterback in american football lining up with the defense).
Quote: Another major difference is that only the player with possession of the ball may be tackled in rugby league. Defending players interfering with any other attacking player (and vice versa) will incur a penalty.

sure american lineman may look out of shape. but warren sapp (google him) could put on a 4.69 second 40(he weighs in at 300). just look at the stats (down at the bottom, underneath agility heading) on this guy and you'll see that padding doesnt=sissy- http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/patterson_mike Meatwad FTW |
