Wow. Massive duel of the epeens here.
Nobody has mentioned the hardest of hardcore international sports: Golf.
I'd like to all of you football players be it American, Australian, Rugby, or soccer to try to play a round of 18 holes without going over par?
Golf = no padding too, by the way.

Preach on brother. One time I hit near a water hazard and I got my shoes wet trying to hit the ball. I want to see these pansy football players play the final 6 holes with wet shoes.

Instead, they play in mud, ice, sleet, blizzards and near monsoon like rainstorms. There is no such thing as a weather delay in American football. Not that 120+ degree heat on the playing field is a picnic either.
P.S. Oh yeah, fog too. Bears vs. Eagles, New Years Eve 1988.

I was about to comment on hurling there actually, I'd say its the most brutal of the lot.
And to join in with everyone else, I think gaelic footballs more fun than american or rugby. There.

NFL exec wants teams in London, Mexico and Canada within 10 years
Mark Waller, NFL senior vice president of sales and marketing, also said in an interview that he hopes the league would have teams based in London, Mexico and Canada within 10 years. Waller said that he hopes the league would have teams based outside the U.S. by 2017. ``Ten years from now, I hope we will have a team in London, I hope we'll have a team in Mexico, I hope we'll have one in Toronto, playing within the NFL,'' Waller said. -- Bloomberg

Edited by: Phrixus Zephyr on 14/07/2007 21:52:20 Whats with all the Rugby Vs American football crap? Appart from the shape of the ball they're almost completly different games. You're not exactly aloud to nose dive someone in Rugby like you are in American Football and you don't get away with a fraction of brawling and blood in American football that you do in Rugby.
I wa born in the UK, in Halifax and have lived in Warrington (both Rugby towns) and i like American Football and have done for a years now.

They're different, but I don't know about "completely different". Aside from the tackling limitations in Rugby, the "right to contest possession" vs "turnover" philosophy, and the whens and wherefores of kicking / throwing / passing / etc, they're really pretty similar.
Admittedly the way it's played in the end ends up fairly different. American Football is all about pushing for a couple of extra feet of territory, while Rugby is all about fluid manoeuvres and keeping possession.
I don't dislike American Football; the whole atmosphere of it reminds me of a disciplined military pushing to capture enemy territory, and is all very primal and satisfying. As a whole though, I'm more of a rugby union man. --------

Yeah, That is the impression I get too. I find AF extremely boring because it has a stop/start grid iron *cough action cough* thing going on.
Also AF has evolved into a much more violent sport than when it started out. Maybe because of the American culture or maybe for other reasons.

a lot of retired (and semi-retired in michael owen's case) footballers have quite healthy handicaps, actually.

Cheeky git :P How the hell are you pho? Im only 37 i'll have you know and can still run faster and hit harder than the young whippersnappers around today. I used to play back in the late eighties and early nineties as well. I play strong safety by the way.
