I'm a 'noob', as I've only been playing about 6 months. :-) It has been my experience that the system was pretty balanced when I started, but now there are about twice as many skills to learn as there were then. Thus, the 'basic' skills were up to certain levels when the new skills came out, but I haven't increased the 'older/basic' skills much in the last month or so at all. To me, this is giving those that are just starting a opportunity to get those skills trained up that they need to survive, while I get no better at them during the same period of time. :-)
But then, when I started it took me a week to discover *how* to train to a higher level! That right-click was hard to find! LOL
So, to me, better education for starting players is more valuable than changing the way skill points are given.
Oh... In case it didn't sound like it, I can agree with a 'small' additional skill level too. But I mean small, and directly related to the 'profession' the starting character has taken.
I can't help but question what technical problems it may cause, so is it even possible? Who knows?

Edited by: Wolf DeRainger on 08/02/2004 12:59:37 I was in Eve at the start, then had to leave for a few months and have not long ago returned. Frankly I have not had any problems what so ever in getting back into the game and starting from scratch even though most guys who I know are now miles ahead of me in skills. But I'm still enjoying the game as much as I ever did. Yes, many, many people are well ahead of me in the game, but that's what adds to the rich tapestery of what is Eve.
Actually what I have found is that it isn't the skills, or lack of them that's helped me, it's the knowledge of how Eve works, that more then anything has helped me push on faster then any of the new noobies to the game. Eve reflects life perfectly. You have beginers, you have veterans. Because I've in effect started 6 months behind everybody else isn't a good enough reason for giving me a boost, or nerfing those guys who were in at the start.

but anyway some kind of "boost" is needed for the new players... for a week or two the skill trains 2 times faster so they at least gets the Basic skills done and can specialise in some other areas...

The skill system moves extremely fast in the first 2 weeks. Its not really apparent your behind at that point because of the speed your gaining new abilities. Few a day easy.
What you could do is add in a "neural booster" cost 10 million isk. Effect is that you learn all your skill points under 240k 3 times as fast. Usuable once per a toon. This is for those people that decide they need to switch toons. Or start a serious alt. It would be eves version of twinking.
You could also have Neural Booster I which cost 50 million isk but makes your first 480k learned skill points go 3 times as fast.

Edited by: Guilbert on 09/02/2004 03:42:36 wee you guys were allready talking bout this issue and i totally missed you and made a new topic. still i think giving out a bonus for newer players would be utterly nonsense,i rather would like them to have the oportunity to work themself up while at the same time others too have the option to raise their skills by using them. so newer players who like to catch up on older players just need to spent time in playing. i dont see any good point why newer players shouldnt be aloved to catch up on older ones and if they only can by actually playing the game and therefore receiving skillpoints "while" playing it would be nothing less than fair. at the end older players will allways have an advantage thru status money and equipement¦for wich they had more time to gather.
well i made a little topic about a new skillgainingsystem wich would resolve the problem wich is discussed here, everyone free to put his thoughts into it new skillgaining system

Well I retract my former post as I see no need for a boost any more. I gave away my fisrt account at 2m+ SP's and as someone else pointed out knowing how EVE works has made all the difference. All it would do is make the new guys feel like they deserve even more handouts than they already feel they do. At least I run into a fair amount of new guys that don't want to work for anything.
Side note. Just and Fair are not one in the same. Something can be fair but not necessarily just.

i Think the system is fair
i also think (like many others) that there is something to do for all lvl's of play on EVE
however with that said the training bonus when online and the i used the skill bonus now give me a bonus should be bigger Thank You Paw Sandberg

this post has never been about "newer player catching up", just giving them a "quick start" or something...

Oh, here we go...why not just speed up skill training generally a little every once in a while?
Makes newb entry constantly easier while never really letting newbs catch up on the older characters.
My alts so far have been very specialized in their training. Even so, I felt the loss of skill points on my main.
Then again, that's over 2 million sps that I won't have to pay for on my main's clone.
