Okay I'm looking for the best possible outfit of a Rupture. However I don't have 50 million just laying around to spend on Skaldi cooling systems or Y-S8 Hydrocarbons (Although I looted one so that's not a problem, heh) or other high-priced weapon mods. Therefore I ask that the suggested load-out please be with only NON-Named items. Well, go ahead and use the Y-S8 Hydrocarbon since I just have it laying around and can't sell it anyways. Oh and keep the weapons to projectile, I can't use the others, no skills for 'em. Also assume Electronics 3 and Engineering 2. As well assume no Weapon/shield upgrade skills (Working on them). Here's what I've started with:
High slots: 2 620mm Projectile, 2 425mm autocannon, Two A-3 Assult launchers.
Med slots: 1 YS-8 Hydrocarbon, 1 Small shield booster, and an empty slot.
Low slots: 3x Basic Gyro Stabalizer, 1 Heat Sink, 1 Basic Tracking Enhencer.

Where to start lol, this must be the worst setup I've ever seen, no wonder you've got trouble with mission spawns.
High: Don't setup for both long and short range, dump the a-3s use m-12s. 1 m-12 with defenders and a couple of 720s I'd say.
Med: well since you got a empty med slot you can keep the mwd if you want to, but FFS a small shield booster is a frigate module, medium shield boosters are for cruisers, and get a hardener into that last med slot depending on the npcs you're fighting.
Low: a heat sink is a laser! damage mod, read the info on the darn things, 3x damage mods is only usefull in gank setups if you ask me, 1 is enough, get some RCU/power diagnostics to fit the 720s, a cap relay is generally a good idea. maybe a overdrive since you had trouble staying at the desired range from npcs. ~{When evil and strange get together anything is possible}~ A tool is only useless when you don't know how to use it. - ActiveX The grass is always greener on the other side. - JoCool |

Well, i use this: HI: 2 * 720mm 2 * 650mm 2 * h-50 launcher MED: 1 * EM ward 1 * AB 1 * med shield booster LOW: 2 * Reactor Control units 2 * Cap relay 1 2 * damage mod
Now, with your skills.. I would recommend something like this: HI: 4 * 650mm 2 * m12 launcher MED: 1 * YS-8 1 * med shield booster 1 * Whatever LOW: 4 * Power diagnostic system I 2 * gyro stabs

*ouch* Bad set-up mate... Here's what I use:
High 3x Named 720mm 2x Named H-50 1x Named M-12
Med 1x Named Med Shield booster 1x Named 10MN AB 1x Named Cap recharger
Low 1x Overdrive 1x Counterbalanced 1x Tracking enhancer 1x RCU 1x Adaptive nano (ignore this one)
You can swapped all the named stuff for basic stuff, but depening on your skills you might run into some CPU/Grid trouble, not sure.
For Missions I usually use one gun with EMP and two with Phased Plasma. H-50's carry Widowmakers and M-12 carries defenders. For NPC hunting I tend to go for longer range ammo, depending on my mood.
Hope this gives some guidelines for ya.

Edited by: Pulgor on 26/01/2004 10:00:20 Edited by: Pulgor on 26/01/2004 09:59:08 It was a bad setup, but then again I don't know anything about combat so I was just kind of playing around.
I'll go ahead and try some of the setups you guys have suggested, if I need anything else I'll come back.
(Edit) oh and I'm just curious on what some abbriviations mean:
EW Dianostick RCU
No idea what these are but see them everywhere. (/edit) -----------------------------------

EW = Electronic Warfare RCU = Reactor Control Unit and I got a feeling by Dianostick he means some type of diagnostic system but since there is alot of thsoe he really should be more specific. -------------------------

Okay, I'm crunching numbers here and this is what I'm thinking of going with, let me know what you think:
High slots: 2 720mm, 2 650mm, 2 M-12 launchers (With either defenders or heavy missles depending on what's going down)
Med slots: Y-s8 Hydrocarbon (Sorry siddy, I can't give it to you =P), Med shield booster, Cap recharger 1.
Low slots: 5x Power Diagnostic Systems.
Now the idea here is that I want to keep that Med Shield booster running for as long as I can. Unless I have to AB away or something that med shield booster should run for almost indefinetly (I worked it out to around 1200 seconds before the cap kills itself!) I can still dish out a ton of damage (about 200 if all turrets hit) and I can load those launchers with defenders or cheap heavy missles for added damage. Still a bad setup or pretty good now?

Don't worry. When you are going somewhere to hunt for the first time, the first trip out is the most important.
Try to watch what weapons the enemy use against you, you can tell by the visuals for turret fire, and missiles names will show up in your log, so you can then research on the market what weapons are being used against you.
If you are planning to go up against NPC cruisers, the first few trips I would advice fitting a Warp Core Stabilizer or two to try to allow you a means for escape if they MWD to you and scramble you.
The main gist of the setup looks good.
Carry one of each tactical shield with you when you go near the system you will be hunting.
Once you know what type of weapons they are using against you, you can choose the most appropriate hardener.
Lasers being used against you: EM tac shield Hybrids being used against you: Thermal tac shield Projectiles being used against you: EM/Thermal (its a hard call if you don't know the visuals of the ammo types being used against you).
I would replace the medium slot Cap recharger 1 with the tactical shield you deem most appropriate once you know what weapons you are (roughly) fighting against.
I think I would still advise a warp core stabilizer in your low slots initially until you are used to things, then you might decide you don't need it. Just a thought.

Okay, well I'll need to train up engineering and tactical sheild before I can use dampeners so it's going to be a while. Should I continue to use my suggested setup in the mean time? -----------------------------------

High:
4 x 650's or 720's (with the good skillz) 2 M-12 with heavy missiles or defenders
Med:
AB EM hardner cap charger/shield charger/therm hardner/ monopulse tracker
low track enhancer damage mod OD RCU * 2 or 3 if your skillz are low ( need lots of Grid for the 720's (get named ones asap)
the better ur shield recharge rate the better chance to forget about the recharger as you won't need it and can have something else ----------------------------------------------------- In space .. no-one can hear you munching crisps in the back seat of your Hauler ! ----------------------------------------------------- Show me the money |

My setup is for against NPC's not much use for PvP but here goes :-
High = 3xH50 launchers with heavy/heavy/cruise 2x720 howitzer 1x280 gallium howitzer
Med = Medium Shield Booster Ditrigonal Thermal Booster (usually fight laser NPCs) Small/Medium shield extender (cant remember which, im at work atm)
Low = 3xBasic CPU Basic power diagnostic 400mm Steel plate armor.
U need decent electronic/eng skills to get this all going but i find this works good against NPC's, as the only thing i get hit with EW-wise is a webber/warp scrambler combo...but they get blown to pieces before they do any kind of real damage. Also i keep a few torpedoes in reserve, as u never know !! Just my thoughts on the matter

Ok,
First of all, get more of BOTH electronics and engineering skills, and start working on weapons upgrade skill. CPU and power are a bit tight on the Rupture, so you will need high skills. It assumes high skills anyway, since it is a level 3 cruiser.
As for the loadout, for general purpose cruiser NPCs hunting, this is what I use on my Rupture:
High slots 3x720 mm (I mix and match photon, nuclear, and phased plasma to taste) 2 M-12 loaded with defenders for missile spammers 1 H-50 with torp or cruise (for those extra crunchy NPCs :)
Med slots 1 med shield booster 1 10 MN MWD (you absolutely HAVE to be able to dictate range) 1 shield hardener of your choice (I usually use thermal or whatever is appropriate)
Low slots 3 cap relays 1 power diagnostic 1 1 Reactor Control Unit (if you don't have engineering 5)
With this setup I can handle missile spamming cruiser rats with no problem. Key is dictating range, as the "smarter" rats WILL try to MWD up to you, and you have to be able to keep the range open. The shield penalty and the cap penalty for the MWD aren't that bad, if you have TONS of cap recharge (around 125 secs) and train up tactical shield manipulation for extra shield capacity.
You won't go below half shield when fighting cruisers, if you have the right hardener on (usually thermal for missile spammers). I usually don't bother with damage mods in the low slots. They take away from cap recharge, and if you need more damage, throw a torpedo or cruise at the right moment.
Anyway thats just what I use. Lots of good ideas in this thread. Have fun.

Here is my Rupture, although I have taken away some parts to sell since it's easier to make a buck that way.
650 Scout (Scout now sold and changed to Gallum) 650 Proto Siege 650 Proto Siege 650 Gallum
2 XR-3200 (changed to Advanced Limos as the XR-3200s are moved to my BS.)
Medium Clarity Ward Tracking Computer (waiting for looted named part like Orion, Optical or Monopulse) Eutectic II recharger (castorized to base values) This module may be changed to an Annointed EM ward.
1 Counterbalanced Mod (Now moved to BS, and using Pneumatic instead) 2 Powerdiags (Locals, Mark 1s for lower CPU req.) 2 Relays (Locals, Mark 1s for lower CPU req.)
I used it to hunt for small named frigate guns, like Medium Modulated beams (sold out) and 280mm Scouts (got one left).
