Since I started eve online I've always been working on navy missions. Finally I got to level III missions but messed up today when I did a mission, thought it was completed than logged off. When I sign back on the agent tells me I forgot to loot the cargo (my bad of course) and when I warp back all the loot and cargo are gone. So I go to give up the mission thus loosing so much standing that I have to go back to level II's... great.
Naturally I looked for a new way to make some ISK with my brand new Drake, so I went on the forums and learned that the drake is a powerful ratting ship. I never of done ratting before set a path to 0.0 sec with my almost fully t2 equipped drake. I warped to 0.0 sec and realized I was being follow, quickly I warped to an asteroid belt but I was warped drive locked! I couldn't escape fast enough and they killed me.
Now I have exactly 38 million ISK from the platinum insurance and don't know what to do. Did I just have a bad first ratting experience? Am I just plain stupid and could of got out of this situation? I just wanna have some fun in eve and be able to have a semi-solid income of isk while working my way up on building a fun PvP ship.
Also skill wise I need to train my shield training up before anything so I can fully t2 equip my drake.
Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated.

if you dont want to be bothered by others, stay in highsec and run missions.
part of the fun in ratting solo in 0.0 is that you are more likely than not to get killed on your way there/home

I like the idea of ratting I just want to know if I'm going to be constantly ganked so much that I won't make enough ISK to balance it out and progress.

If you want 0.0 access, its far better to get into a corp that is based in 0.0 and has lots of blue standings with the other corps/alliances around it, 0.0 is pritty much all "claimed space" and as such going there alone is likeley to end fast and unexpectedley -

Thats exactly what i am doing right now. Stick to lvl3 missions till you got enough money to cover your possible future losses and till you got enough skills to feel comfortable in whatever you gonna use 1. Get a new drake, fit&insure 2. Get a destroyer for loot&salvage 3. Find a lvl3 agent in a not-so populated system. ( 0.6+)

The drake is rubbish as a ratter, especially in 0.0 as you'll run out of ammo after 30 minutes and will have to double back and get more and get killed doing it (as you have noticed).
What people actually mean when saying the drake is a good ratter is that it's easy goings against NPC ships in general, since you just drift about with your passive tank taking occasional potshots at the rats, using whatever damage type that happens to be best against those particular ones. For missions then fine since you resupply your ship between each go, but for ratting in 0.0? Nah. Even if you could have enough missiles with you to keep going a while, your hold won't have room for all the phat lewt. Mind you all this assumes you don't have access to a station where you're going, if you do then that's something else entirely. But use lasers instead! Get an Apoc! *ducks* Or keep doing missions, even if you feel sick of it - they easily generate the same ISK as ratting, except if you happen to find some really rare spawn.
