When is the loot/salvage determined, when the ship spawns, when it is killed, or when it is looted/salvaged?

And by all accounts he is a jobsworth. Follows the letter of the law and does not deviate from his nasty little track.

Must be the same guy that puts the gate to room 2 100KM from the warp in point of room 1.

im almost positive its pulled fromt he loot/salvage tables at the time you open the wreck for th first time, and when you get the "you have successfully salvaged" message.

Edited by: FT Diomedes on 16/07/2007 13:36:27 It is drawn from the loot/salvage tables when the wreck is created. Whatever is in those wrecks, be it a Domination Stasis Webifier or a Civilian Shield Booster, is in there the moment they are created. Same goes for salvage.

So that would be option two then, it is determined when the ship is killed, right?

Scan the wrecks with a ship scanner. That won't tell you what kind of salvage is there, but should tell you what kind of loot is in the can.

There's a secret Agency at CCP that decides what the NPC drops at the moment its popping, called the "Secred Looting Agency (SLA).

you do realize that initiating a scan is "opening" the wreck right?

The most efficient way to implement it is to have the loot determined the first time the player attempts to access the loot. Accessing would be an attempt to loot the wreck, salvage the wreck, or scan the wreck.
By delaying the loot table lookup, you can possibly save computing resources in the rare case that someone completely ignores the wreck.
There's no guarantee CCP did it this way, but I hope they did.
