OK, the 14th failed because only one person turned up. Maybe it was because everyone is on holiday, maybe Perth was not such a hawt place to meet.
This is a quick poll to see: a) if there's interest and, b) where.
So vote. I'm gonna say Saturday 25th August.
Edinburgh Glasgow Aberdeen Inverness
I may contact EveTv to see if we can do a video diary of the event (or possibly non-event). You don't have to be Scottish to vote, just have the intention of turning up. State your preference in this thread. If nobody votes we'll know we're backing a loser. Once we have a City I'll post a venue and start time. This vote will run until Friday 20th July at 10pm. (4 days).

Edited by: RU Sirius on 17/07/2007 12:07:45 OK, if we do this EveTV is interested in filming it. There is also the possibility of a video diary type thing.
Some famous players are from Scotland, maybe they'll see this, think it may be a moment for some EveTV fame (again) and vote.

Edited by: RU Sirius on 21/07/2007 08:39:51 This looks promising. Loads of interest.
Lets see if anyone else thinks they might express a preference by next week. My vote goes to Edinburgh. So that's 2 votes each for Edinburgh and Glasgow. Looks like we may have to meet in Falkirk. Or Shotts, even better.

I'm on dayshift on the 25th so I can get to Glasgow for about 5-ish. If we choose Edinburgh I'll only be able to make it if I can get the 26th off, but I work in an evil call center in Mordor..I mean Airdrie...and they'll probably not give me the day off.
Out of interest, anyone else here from around Airdrie/Coatbridge or work in the call center?

3 of our corp mates work in a call centre there. They might turn up if we harass them. 2 for virgin media and 1 for tiscali i think. It's one of these out sourcing call centres.

not sure where to meet. The last time our corp met, we went to a witherspoons down near central station. It was an average venue. Don't really want to go to one of them again. Good for chatting though, because there's no music. I guess it depends on the amount of people that will want to turn up will decide the venue.

Aye, beCogent. I'm on Tiscali at the weekend but don't know anybody else on the project who plays. Been pestering a mate to start playing but I don't see him much now since he moved to Tier 2.
Re: a venue, depending on numbers The Old Printworks is a great pub - music is not too loud for chat purposes, comfy couches, pool tables and - most importantly - Stella on tap. It's on North Frederick Street, just off George Square.

True, best to avoid it if there's football on, I think. Although I was in there when the last Scotland/France game was on and it wasn't too bad.
I was in town today and poked my head in, it was pretty quiet. On the downside I noticed there are only 3 couches now

Edited by: Lostat Yggdrasil on 01/08/2007 21:28:05 I think an average-sized "traditional" pub in Glasgow city centre would be fine. Wetherspoons and the like are usually hard to find good seating areas, but a traditional pub would probably be easier in this regard, especially if we're going to be there for quite a while getting drunk, don't want to be standing room only the whole time eh? Alternatively Stirling would be ace, still very handy for trains for everyone almost around Scotland and much easier for me if I'm driving me & my corpmates down the road, saves the weekend city traffic. A few of us Starlancer corpmates are happy to travel down from Aberdeen for it.

Aye, I'm off that weekend and keen to come, and will try to drum up interest from the other scots in our current and former alliances too. Glasgow's fine by me - living in Aberdeen you get used to having to travel to get anywhere (and everyone else refusing to travel far ). I know of a few other groups who meet in Glasgow pubs so will ask for some opinions on good ones for a Saturday. There's one meets on the third saturday of the month in Yates' on West George Street in the afternoon for eg - if it works for them it might well be ok for us too. Will post again when I know more.

Yeah, that works for me. I finish work at 4 though so I won't be there til about 5.
Just one thing - it's not on George Square, it's actually West George Street which is just round the corner from George Square.
If you go behind the church on Buchanan Street Frankie's is diagonally opposite Pizza Hut. I think. It's on that street anyway, number 92.

UPDATE:
Went in and spoke to someone in Frankenstein's (looks really nice inside) and managed to convince them to cordon off an area under the spiral stairs with seating for 20 or so.
I will find out tomorrow if they object to a film crew from Eve TV.
If there are groups coming from The North, how many are coming, hold up your hands. If there are people traveling from Edinburgh we should go as a group to avoid ganking at Croy.
Shin Ra, were you walking up Hanover Street at 9 this morning smoking a**** and getting ready to cross the street towards Neil's Yard. Thought I saw you from the 23 bus on the way to Waverly. Maybe I was mistaken.

OK, here's a google map of the venue. Although I think it's on the corner of West George Street and West Nile Street rather than on the pavement of Renfield Street (zoom in on hybrid).
Keiron has promised to send some free EVE goodies to give away, so there's an incentive to turn up. From what I've seen before it is usually stuff like T shirts, time cards and cardgame packs, stuff like that. I would do a quiz for prizes but my EVElore is not up to it. I work with someone who does pub quizes, could do one of those in teams if there's enough people turn up. Or maybe a free raffle.
Xyliana has been unresponsive, so far, on the filming front, so I'm assuming that EVE TV have decided not to come to Glasgow. Maybe they were hoping to be in Edinburgh at festival time and they are so disappointed they can't reply. Or maybe they're just really busy at EVE TV towers.

So, there was a suggestion that the few of us traveling from Edinburgh meet up and travel together.
Where will we meet? How will we recognise each other? When will we meet? Since I am the one organising it I'd like to be there for 4, the due start time, Pen poised over sticky name label.
Anyone up for turning up that early?

You'll have two from Aberdeen there for 4 I was kind of planning on just asking at the bar for the Eve group if they know where we're meant to be sitting.

Go through the door, there is a bar straight ahead behind some pillars and tables, there is a bar on the right, there are spiral stairs to the left, we will be cordoned off in the area under the stairs.
I will bring labels for names badges, if required and a poster thing with an arrow. Ye ken?
A few confirmations and teens of promises. I'm bringing 40 odd labels (nicked form the office stationary cupboard) as I'm wildly optimistic (and frequently disappointed).
Eve TV have been rudely silent and resistant to all email contact, if they turn up I will swear at them and demand they buy alcohol for everyone before we'll do interviews.
Keiron hinted at goodies when I asked and requested numbers and a mailing address. Nothing has arrived as yet. no reply from reminders. There is a pattern emerging: Lets ignore the pushy Scots.
The more the merrier, please make the effort and come along.

I think space for 20 sitting and some standing will be fine, not everyone will stay the whole time and some are arriving later. It's a big place and we can spread out a bit if needed.
There is also a neat and inexpensive menu for those who also want to eat and a colleague informed me that Frankenstein's monster also puts in an appearance every night in a cage. Value for money of what?

You still have hiccups? That must be a record.
Thanks for turning up everyone. Lovely.
Tri and BoB got on well and blobbed for a bit in the corner before we got shifted, then engaged in some happy smaktalk in local when there wasn't much room to get past. The Aberdeen boys left when some of us went for food across the road. BoB could, of course, afford steak in Frankies while us poorer folks went to Subway.
Had a good laugh. Met some nice people. Didn't use the name badges. One of my more lame ideas, I admit. Had to prop the Player Gathering poster between the salt and pepper as Frankie's wouldn't let me blu tack it to the end of the booth, but no biggie.
Everyone wants cheaper beer next time. We all think Keiron's a **** ( ) for not sending swag to give away (do we need more than 20 to count as free swag worthy?) and EVE TV are ignorant for not getting in touch. Shame on you . Went to the Edinburgh Festival instead, I hear.
So next time I vote for Edinburgh, in November, after Fanfest so I can show you all pictures of what you missed. I'll see about pubs that are cheap and do not involve Bar Kohl so Freki doesn't throw up and **** himself at the smell of Vodka.
Thanks and see you all next time. Woot.

"Despite a lack of EVE TV, Lostat brought a video camera and did his own interviews. Not sure where they will end up and if he just got me on camera or did he film others answering questions?"
Once I've got around to stitching the video footage together I'll post here to let people know. I won't post or send it to anything without checking here first though to get peoples' permission and make sure its OK. Main purpose of the video was just a record to say we had a good player meet and to let the EVE-TV people know they missed out on a good opportunity, I counted 17 of us there but quite possibly more came after Nuala & I had to leave.
I interviewed a couple of people and my camera seemed to pick up the sound much better than I thought it would given the background pub volume so I'm happy about that.

Here are a couple of links to some of the things that came up in conversation last night:
The Noob Comic - It's very funny, especially if you're familiar with fantasy MMOs. If you can't be arsed reading the whole thing, then at least read page 158.
WoW Epic Mount for an Epic Mount - Unbelievable. Think I could get a Tempest this way?

Well it didn't take much organising, really, but I'm happy to continue to do it.
Will announce the next gathering once I've sussed a venue in the next few weeks. I also plan to announce it on some other fan forums and perhaps we can boost the numbers. There are loads of players in Scotland.

Mankind is the master of nature because we can choose those mutations on our own accord. We can accelerate the inevitable dominance of a species. Through war, we can make ourselves stronger at the time and place of our choosing. War is not hell, far from it. War is beautiful. I do have CCP loots but only 75% of them as I kept the timecard for myself. Keiron said I could keep all of it but I only used the timecode card. I will request more loots for the next meeting in November so we will have 175% loots to give away. This will make it even cooler than it will be. Announcement very soon on very special venue.
What's the feeling of a Sunday afternoon meet, say midday start?? And maybe leave the alcohol till 4ish.?? Actually this may sound like crap if you don't know what I have planned.

Cool. I work shifts so the day doesn't make much difference to me - is just a matter of knowing it in advance enough that I can book a day off or swap a shift.
Meeting earlier would suit for travelling from Aberdeen - really felt like we were leaving just as things were getting going at the last one. Chance of arriving at 12 and leaving the alcohol to 4? Either you have something spectacular planned or you've gone totally insane

I may have done both. I'm thinking the free lunchtime show at 12.30 at The Stand comedy club then on to a pub close by. The free show is on a Sunday. I used to work across the road from The Stand and frequented the Monday night for ú1 quite often. Was well worth it and very, very good. Jongleurs can shove it, The Stand rules.
