First of all, the servers where down only for a few hours! I dont think its neccesary at all to give a week warning for that! And CCP had announced the patch like 4-5 days in advance!
Also if you know you cant play for the next 4 days, or believe you wont be able to: SET LONG TIME SKILLS!!
About reading the EULA. You are agreeing to it whether you have read it or not, And no matter what you believe, CCP are trying to the best of their ability to deal with macroers! But unless you can provide a 100% failfree solution on spotting these (without any chance at all hurting innocent!!!) I am sure CCP will listen to you!
I am sorry, but if you lost skillpoints during this time, its your fault! CCP have done their thin. The rest have always been up to the players! And this is where you failed, by not showing up during the 4 days the warning where posted on the front page!

How hard would this be CCP? I mean, really! It comes up on the forums all the time. It's a fantastic idea that would dramatically improving the Eve experience at virtually no expense.
The arguments against such a system are weak at best, and completely erroneous more realistically.
Prioritize this feature. Everyone wins.

Originally by: Shenko Minara This caught me out last patch. It is short notice, but just petition it and you'll get your skillpoints back.
No.
This patch wasnt short notice, its been on the news feed since FRIDAY.
If you dont play for 4 days, then what is another 1 going to matter?

You had since Friday to do something about it.
Stop whining, complaining about a few hours of downtime sounds pretty pathetic - especially after you were given advance notice.

I'll probably keep mentioning it until it's implemented.
No reason not to as far as I can tell. And if there is a reason, please for the love all that is jovian, explain to us why this isn't in place!

I don't think it's unreasonable to get a week's notice on downtimes whenever possible. But sometimes it's not going to be possible, patching things in a timely manner is often going to be a priority over long notice, and I accept that.
Anyway, two things I do that over the last year and a half have prevented any problem so far:
- I pretty much assume there's going to be a longer downtime every Tuesday, and plan my skill training accordingly.
- If I'm going to be away for a few days, I set a skill at least a day longer than that. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
