Can anyone tell me some other use then recycling them for megacyte ?
I seriously wonder if these are bugged or something, it's the only module i know where the named versions are actually worse then the stock item...
A named version (E5 something) does like 11 energy in 53 seconds, where a nosferatu does 10 energy in 45 seconds.
Now what is the use of draining the absolutely microscopic amount of 11 energy every 53 seconds ?

nosferatus are very useful, they give megacyte when u recycle them.

Well, thanks for the intelligent reactions here.
Next time read my post and f#ck off before thinking of undertaking an attempt to reach a state even remotely appoaching that of being funny.
Thanks for the bumps tho.
So i gather these modules are totally useless to any and all pilots in any and all ships and would best be removed from the game altogether or be called mini-mega roid and put into belts ?

Edited by: Jernau Gurgeh on 27/01/2004 11:12:46 There are two sorts of module - drainers (which lower your opponents cap) and vampires (which lower your opponents cap and add it to yours).
Both types are pretty useless, but the drainers have a better range and have some use on battleships trying to battle mwd-equipped frigates, if you have an empty high slot and not enough power to fit a gun.
I also believe that both types will be modified in an upcoming patch
There are 10 sorts of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who do not. |

The energy vampires atm can only be slightly usefull to frigates as the power transfer is minimal compared to a cruiser`s/BS`s total power. The downside is that they require a lot of cpu to run, meaning that you`ll have to sacrifice other things, plus their range is short so only frigs with short range weapons can use them well. There will be energy neutralisers (those are far more useful atm) that have frig/cruiser/BS versions later (some are in chaos I think) so I take it we might see energy vampire versions varying on ship size as well.
cheers

I'm not sure about the named vs. standard question but I fear that the module is indeed next to useless due to two serious issues: it's likely to drain your own cap long before that of your target but above all its range is a ridiculously low 1200m If you're looking to kill your target's cap you're far better off with Neutralizers instead, though that one isn't exactly brilliant either IMO.

You can alternatively put them in your hangar and wait for the next patch (or the one after that) TomB is working on the overhaul of these modules and the neutralizers, so they just might become quite useful. (i think they're available in the Fight Club hangar on chaos server to test, but can't get on at the moment to check)

Well cao, in that case i am deliriously happy that i did it before your post..
Oh, and these modules suck all out, on frigates too. 10 energy is like 3% of a frigates cap.

Tuned and changed? *cough* *cough*. 8 energy xfer at a massive 5,500 meter range! Woot!
That's the new "small" version of the module, so it remains to be seen if the bigger ones will be worth more then the megacyte they currently provide us.

ya the stats on these items are pretty hopeless, the range on em is way too short and the time to draw pwr is way to long.

The energy neutralizers are the only valuable thing in this class. In the first weeks of eve, I held off an expirenced maller pirate in my omen by stopping him from firing.
Sure i couldn't kill him, but neither could he kill me. If you train up your energy weapons skill, you can get up to a 30% advantage in caps. Combine this with a bank of cap recharger low slot modules, and you can suck 'em dry and still have room for shields. Works particularly well in combination with a full-loadout of drones. | Join eve-webring.com to promote your site. |

Damn I don't even get megacyte from the small nosferatus any more.
Now they're totally useless. ------

When the heavy nosferatu and neutralizer come on TQ, you'll learn the use of them the hard way if you can't figure it out yourself.
And the small ones are certainly useful for frigate PvP.

Hmmm. I¦ve played around with them for quite a while yesterday, but somehow didn¦t really find a setup that¦s worth it Their biggest problem is the grid-req, which is way too big IMO (8MW is a lot of grid for a frig), especially since you pretty much have to use MWD to get into their 5.5km range and out of it.
Anyways, if you find a useful setup, let me know
Cruiser/Battleship sized drains will be pretty dangerous weapons I guess. We¦ll see. Would¦ve been nice though to have a lower grid-req on those small nosferatus, it might have made them a real choice for frigates.

Nosferatu's are handy cap top up devices for ew frigs in fleet engagements. In these circumstances your frig would close in very quickly to a close 500m orbit to their target, whack on it's ew kit and hope to hell there's no drones out there. This basically gives the 'big guns' time to get a lock etc and makes use of the disposable frigate and it's quick lock.
Now running your afterburners/mwd as well as scramblers/webbers/other ew stuff is a big drain on any ew frig. a couple of nosferatus pumping away instead of guns is great for topping and extending the potential ew active time of the frigate. I agree they're not very useful in draining cap from an opponent but they do have their benefits.
