Edited by: Malakai Draevyn on 18/07/2007 10:26:37 All of the above are valid - I was bored at work and came up with this :
Murphy's Laws of Eve
Smartbombs ain't that smart. You are not Superman; Cruisers and tackler-frigates pilots take note. Sitting in space in your pod is Nature's way of telling you to slow down. If it's stupid but it works, it isn't stupid. Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you. The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack. The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions: 1. when they're ready. 2. when you're not. There is no such thing as a perfect plan. The important things are always simple; the simple are always hard. Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy other people to shoot at. Incoming fire has the right of way. No combat ready unit has ever passed inspection - No inspection ready unit has ever passed combat. If the enemy is within range, so are you. Anything you do can get you killed, including nothing. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in, and you won't be able to get out. If you take more than your fair share of objectives, you will get more than your fair share of objectives to take. When both sides are convinced they're about to lose, they're both right. Professional soldiers are predictable; the world is full of dangerous amateurs. Gang/Fleet experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. You're only better than your enemy if you kill him first. Just because you have an unbreakable shield or armour tank, doesn't mean you don't have exposed areas... Give an order, then change the order, will get you disorder. Never be first. Never be last. Never volunteer for anything.
AND FINALLY (from personal experience)
When the fire's coming in hard, and your tank is crumbling, it's often as not FAR too late to remember that you didnt upgrade your clone or insure your ship...
..:: MD ::..
Remember that scene in Aliens towards the end where Ripley has to walk through a room full of unhatched Alien eggs? EO Forums are like that - except you don't get a flamethrower. |

that miss quote hurts my eyes:
The first rule of the robot fighting club is you do NOT talk about the robot fighting club.
The second rule is, your do not talk about the rob, oh wait no thats the first rule. The second rule is no smoking.
"why arn't we allowed to smoke?"
"shut up we arn't meant to talk about it"
That is slightly more accurate but still probably wrong.

EvE is a dark, desolate place, everything and everyone will try to kill, ransom, sploit, scam, rob, pirate you, your friends and your mother. Do try to give back as good as you get. - Haradgrim [-WB-]

- Armor and Hull Repair modules are WAY less expensive than the in-station repair shop (slaps forehead). - Don't complete the mission before bookmarking the location of all that lovely salvage (sobs). - Accept the mission/grab the courier item before flying ten jumps to the system and realizing you have to fly back ten jumps (screams). - Cap batteries are WAY bigger than you expected, but so worth it (shrugs). - Caldari ships are teh suxorz for drones (grumbles). - Most of the female pilots are not being played by females - you have been warned (snickers). - Learn to use shield and hull/armor weaponry accordingly - one-size-fits-all missiles/rounds/torps are for lazy people (pwnz). - Advanced Spaceship Command is not required so much as Frigate/Destroyer/Cruiser/Battleship V. Hopefully this will save you 46Mil. - Check before you buy a skillbook - you may already have it. Hopefully this will save you even more ISK (sighs). - Salvaging and looting are two different things - Salvaging someone else's kill will not net you a flashy red character shooting at you, looting it will (laughs gleefully).
See ya'll in the vacuum... Shouts out to SAK (yes - we're an NPC Corp - deal!!!)!!

My golden rule when coaching newbies is "when in doubt, don't". Should I attack that white plus sign at the gate? Probably not. Should I spend all my money on that skill? Probably not. The list of examples go on...
It all boils down to the three T's: THINK. THINGS. THROUGH. Eve is harsh, and whatever happens it's invariably your fault.

From my bio: " The Unwritten Rules of EVE:
1) Never undock a ship that you can't afford to lose (fittings and cargo, included) 2) No space is safe space 3) ALWAYS get FULL insurance on any ship you fly. 4) Never haul more than 20 million worth of goods into Jita in a T1 hauler 5) Always keep local open in low sec space 6) Always check the map for activity when traveling through low sec 7) Always use warp-to-0km (instas) when traveling in low sec, especially in 0.0 8) Never go AFK in a low sec system while undocked 9) Never mine solo in a barge/exhumer in low sec 10) Always make safespots in low sec systems that you visit frequently
Alternatively: 1) Trust the fear 2) Stay at range 3) Expect to die "
