I never once killed someone who payed a ransom when I was a pirate and I'd alway leave them alone for the next 24 hours after they payed up. I did kill someone by accident once (damm drones) but anyway I've not pirated for a long time now and I was never any good at it. personally If the ransom is less than what you'd lose (take into account your pod and if you think you can get it out or not) then pay it, otherwise don't... you lose less. easy as that. name and shame if they don't honor the ransom. ]

You might get shot anyways, he might take it and haul ass. Either way, a thief is a nervous bastard with an itchy trigger finger, and when the gun is at your head... hesitation will be your downfall. You can't always control fate, but money can pacify the most hostile of individuals. Pay your ransom, and if he breaks it, make it known. Pretty sure he won't have much respect even in this sector of space. Though know, that after paying a ransom, you should haul ass. Sticking around is asking for trouble, and if I just ransomed you and I see 5 ships show up on local to help you, expect to be podded as I warp out. The majority of pirates in my experience do honour ransoms because it is a vital source of income and you don't bite the hand that feeds you. Imo there is not really point in such resource site. If i held you down you would have couple seconds to accept or deny ransom. I wouldnt wait till you go check something. Some reputation system in-game would be cool tho. I am only interested in such systems existence as i always honor ransoms and its in my best interest that my target knows that. ____________________

I once pounced on a nanophoon with a Thorax (yes, I was drunk). I believe in most cases, people will honor a ransom. If the corp is Racketeers, it's better to assume they WILL blow you up, whether you pay or not. There was another thread somewhere around here where they seemed proud of the fact that they don't care if their members honor a ransom. If you do get tackled and ransomed, pay up and then get blown up anyway, there is a decent chance of getting reimbursed for at least the ransom amount. Look up the pirate's corp and mail his CEO (or diplomat if they list one) and explain what happened. Forward the killmail and chat convo. Don't rant and rave. There's a good chance the CEO will reimburse the ransom and then pimpslap his ~~member~~ corpmate. If that doesn't get your ransom back, then you come here and name the person and corp. Don't rant and rave here either, cause that just feeds the trolls and then they'll just start following you everywhere. ;) /edit: Rephrased a line. If you are in structure and webbed and scrammed, and I even see your ship start to try to get away from me while I'm waiting for your response, you're gone. If you do something like that and I start shooting and you send the payment as your ship explodes, I'll send it back. Like someone said, it's just bad for business, because after a few dishonors your name is a little bit more prolific... Is the ransom cheap? If so, take the chance. If not, know that you may very well be popped after paying. If you're flying a nice pimped out ship with the possibility of billions in modules -- well, the temptation to cash out twice will definitely be there.
