Train the skill that betters your cap recharge rate (energy grid operations?), as well as fit Cap Power relays. Then you should be ok as long as you don't leave your shield continously on.
As for battleship, make sure you have the skills to be able to use it to its best ability! Key skills should be at level 4 at least 5 in the cases of skills like engineering, electronics.

Cap is life.
A very big part of battle is managing your cap and looking ahead to when it might be time to leave before it is too late and you cannot. I have occasionally run out of cap and had to sit idle while getting hammered waiting fro that cap to recharge. Not a good position to be in.
You can train skills, use mods like cap relays or cap boosters, fit your ship with less cap intensive items (think twice abotu fitting an MWD for battle purposes as it nerfs your cap) and simply better power management (don't run that shield booster non-stop, watch running ABs for long periods, shut down guns and use missiles for a bit if cap is especially low, etc.).

Edited by: Mikelangelo on 27/01/2004 20:07:34 Cap recharge, as well as overall capacity is important.
Without cap, you can't do anything, except watch your ship die, as its getting pounded.
On a Moa, there isn't really any excuse to NOT put on cap recharging devices. You've got 4 med slots and 4 low slots. Considering all the cap modules that are available such as Cap Recharger I's (med slots) and Cap Power relay (low slots), there's no excuse not to have a decent recharge rate, no matter what else you are packing.
3 power relays in the low slots definitely make a difference, and you can still have the usual damage mod slot left over in the low slots. Med slots you've got enough room for a booster, hardener, MWB or AB, and whatever else (tracking comp or cap relay IMHO).
If you have powergrid problems, you can still put in a Power Diagnostic or two. Not as much cap recharge as the relays, but they do help power outpot and other things as well. Now we have Cap Recharger II's available (for an ungodly sum of money), which will make things even more fun.

For a NPC hunting build on a moa I use:
4 x 250 proto railguns (antimatter) 2 x small missle launchers (14 defenders each) 1 x Medium C5-L Emergency shield booster. 1 x Afterburner. 2 x peroxide capaciter battery. 2 x Power Diag 1 x Cap relay 1 x Damage mod
The way cap works is that cap HP and cap recharge are seperate numbers. So if you equip a mod that increases cap HP then as a side effect it increases your cap/second recharge.
But the same is also true for decreases in the cap HP. ie. MWD that removes 25% of cap HP will vastly slow down your cap/second recharge.
Take your total cap HP and divide by the recharge time, if this number is not at least 8 then you may want to re-think things.

Um. No offense, but if you can't figure out how to effectively equip a moa, you have no business being in a battleship, unless you wish to lose it quickly.

Edited by: BobGhengisKhan on 28/01/2004 02:46:25 Bah don't listen to these jackasses. They just want to keep you in a cruiser to look down on you.
For starters, here some help:
7x Modal Neutron Blasters (dont worry about power, if you cant activate all of them, just leave the others fitted so that you can switch out activated weapons when you dock - this way you will not have to worry about reloading) 1x Unstable Power Core
4x Large C5l 7x Damage Mods
When you buy that new megathron and deck it out with all your modal neutron thingies, come out to Fountain for some help, we're slowing bringing together all of the helpful experienced players in Eve to share with the community

You prolly didn`t warp out because you were warpscrambled though... Even with very little cap your ship warps out but can`t make the full distance.
Get a Dominix if you can`t afford 1+1/2 megathrons so as to easily replace it and its`modules if you lose it
edit:spelling (I`m kinda drunk)

Its a sad thing to loose a MOA - I was devistated when I lost my first ....
The only advice I can give is to know your limitations - when your shields are under half strength and there are loads of NPC left then seriously consider warping out - it takes what seems like forever to get a MOA warping ... esp when sheilds are draining .... so my advice is to RUN AWAY !!! ...
you'll get to fight another day ...
oh yeah - and about the question ... I would get another MOA ... maybe try a BB ?

well, i'll bet the first mistake you made was gettin too close .. caldari bonus's are range .. use it .. once your cap recharging skills get better, then you can think about tanking, otherwise id recommend keeping your range to around 25k+ .. shouldnt have to use shield boosters cept for missiles.. if you like close range combat, train gallente and use blasters(caldari can use them also, but gall gets damage bonus) .. my vexor easily and quickly shreds npc cruisers with frigate escorts .. only time i break out my ogres is when there are more than 2 cruisers in the group... most important thing, play to your ships strengths(unless your one of these guys runnin around with 5mil+ skill points, then you can pretty much do whatever lol)
