Edited by: Katy De''Fontainebleau on 19/07/2007 14:27:19 Hi everybody
I'm new to this game and i'm currently doing the trial for the second time as i do not succeed to choose a race.
I've tried Caldari first and i really like missiles but i'm afraid because everybody say missiles sux in pvp on this forum ... and that's the problem as i want to play this game for pvp (always love the idea to be a lonely space pirate or bounty hunter)
So after reading a lot of things, i was about to begin a gallente as it seems that they are really good at pvp but after watching a lot of movie, i really hate the "i charge the ennemy, i stop his movements and nobody move, i send my drone and i active my 8 short range weapons at 500m from him without moving also and the one wis the biggest guns wins..."
Really i do not find that exciting, i'm in space, i want to chase my pride, play with him, avoid his missiles and guns and orbite around him at max speed.
Then i saw Best_Of and Deathforge killing everybody with rifter and wolf in the way i like, they do not go in front of the ennemy to see who has the biggest guns and armor and there i decide i wanted to play the same way.
The only problem is that i do not really like the skin of mimmatar player.
As u see, i really do not know what race to choose, i love gallente faces so would it be a problem to make a gallente or even a caldari and play like mimmatar, avoiding things at max speed and killing fast? I'm afraid to lose time to train skills i would already have learn if i had chosen mimmatar.
PS : Excuse my bad english, i'm not an english people :)

Make a Gallente character and train Minmatar ships from day one.

You could choose your char then train any race you want. I'm caldary but fly gallente only! I see what your saying about speed, a lot of the time fights do end up close up but it's not as static as you think, there is a lot of different strategies (spelling??) in close pvp. If i was to start again i'd stick with gallente ships but choose a different char race, something a bit meaner looking

Any race can train any skill, including the ship skills for other races. There is no racial affinity or bonii to ship abilities, only skill based such.
If you start as a Gallente and want to focus on Minmatar ships, you would need to train Minmatar Frigate and Small Projectile Turret for starters.

Thanks for the fast answers.
I just wanted to konw if focusing on speed and avoiding things is viable in the game. I always like the glass canon, doing a lot of damage but being very vulnerable and having to avoid things rather than tank them.
In the vids like Deathforge, they can orbite at max speed to avoid projectiles and others but it seems that his ennemies have nothing to slow him.
I'm a bit worried as there are so many things in this game to slow or block other ships. Is it possible to avoid being slowed or blocked if the ennemy want it? Because if i can't avoid that, i understand why every movies are almost a face to face between two immobile ships testing their guns :/

The stasis webifier module slows down your ship by 75% for the standard one. Named ones are about 90% i think
They only have a short(ish range though), the standard ones are 10km. Not sure on the faction ones, but they are worth a LOT of isk, and TBH if they are fitting them in PVP they deserve the extra kills they get. :)
The Huginn and Rapier (minmatar recon cruisers) have a bonus to webber range.
In short, most people will only have a 10km webber... -----------------------------------------------
No i'm not good... but i have never claimed to be -------------------- |

An officer webber can reach out as far as 40km but it costs something around a bil.

How do the fast ships survive then? Staring at my small guns the range is ********ly short on them though I'm lacking skills to improve all this.

You just need to get outside of 10km (13km if you want to be safer) which isn't too hard with long range small guns.
