I don't think firefly was pushed out for production cost's since they said it was low budget compared to most shows as it was.
And you can't say it's because the space age genre is dead because there are over 30,000 people playing a space mmo and a majority of those are firefly fans alone.
Firefly to this day still has a fanbase that refuses to give up on the series and the fanbase amazingly enough is growing.
And SG-1 as pointed out last for around a decade so I would definitly not rule that show as a failure. The longest show I know of that's been on air is the simpson and they're hitting 20 years I believe.
I have no doubt in my mind that this show would have been a smash hit because, personally, I think it was created by one of the best producer/directors out there and I believe if he was given enough time it would have made a primetime spot, just not on Fox network who likes to show sitcoms, the dumbess reality shows possible, and baseball.

I have the box set and the DVD, its a pitty that the lowest common demoninator rules the networks. Heck even Scifi channel is not immune to this, with the fact that they now air WcW (Though ironiclly, that crap is right where it belongs in terms of genre). I dont think Scifi was airing the episodes so much that they were testing the waters but more of a way to get the general population ready for the movie, IE expose as many people to the backstory before they went to go see it.
As for if they will make a new show or bring firefly back, no, will never happen. They killed some of the main characters in the movie. They would either have to go as if the movie never happened or go from the movie, which honestly if they did would be a mistake.

The Message. The crew gets a warning shot and a call from the police and they proceed to tear apart the coffin and the crate it came in to find out what the police want so bad. Only part I'm fuzzy on is the character but I believe it's Jayne. Been a while since I've seen that episode.

The Sci-Fi channel said themselves that cancelling SG-1 wasn't ratings based. Although it was going downhill, it was recovering from the change in characters and style. -

Bah, Fox wanted something like Buffy in Space and got kinda a redneck Han Solo swearing in chinese with a hooker and a preacher on board.
Shows how dumb TV execs really are.
I still remember Strazynski (Babylon5) groaning about one TV exec. Exec asked what kept stuff from falling down inside the rotating B5 cylinder. He answered that it¦s glued on.
I stopped watching SG1 right before the Firefly actors got onboard. Around the beginning of the 10th season. Is it worth it to dig those eps up and watch them?

Yeh, trainjob would have been listed as the first episode even though it was never intended to be so.
First episode is called 'Serenity' I believe, it's a pilot so it goes for 2 hours.
Pick it up on DVD mate, iirc there are one or two episodes on the DVD that never aired.

Season 10 is like Season 9 only better. But it's not really Stargate SG-1 anymore. It really became a spinoff, like Atlantis, when O'Neill left, they just forgot to change the name. -

Best SG-1 ever: When Tilk and O'neil get stuck in that time warp. They had me laying on the ground with my sides hurting by the end of that one.

"In the middle of my back swing!"
Anyway, if anyone knows about gateworld.net then you know they are already working on a third show tentivly named Stargate Universe.
Personally though, I feel the whole Ori story arc wasnt needed and all it really did was serve to make alot of people hate the anients even more, which atlantis was accomplishing nicely.
