I live in Cheltenham and am unlikely to have any drinking water at home later today, and possibly won't for up to 2 weeks...

Yeah, Sky News was saying on Friday that Stratford Upon Avon was one of the worst hit places that day. I went to Stratford a few years ago and there's lots of canals running through the town so I imagine it's still flooded. You could always try phoning up a tourist information centre either in the area or local to you. Or even the Environment Agency (0845 988 1188).

Have just been emailed. Apparently the place where I and the ex-Mrs Afterthought used to live is underwater, and her new flat is expected to be flooded soon.
White (sea?) horse and shining armour are set on stand by.

Our drains are coping reasonably well near Bournemouth - at one point a few days ago the road was covered in a few inches of water, but it subsided in a couple of hours.
It's just as well we repeatedly complained to the council & the water company a few years ago - neither wanted to take responsibility, but in the end we got about 200ft of new drains put in along our street. ------ Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant tanking |

Apparently the water is still rising in parts of Gloucestershire and Warwickshire despite the rain having eased off, due to the water draining gradually into the rivers. They've had their water cut off, and in many places their power. Some parts could be without drinking water for up to 3 weeks --------

Yeah, the cruel irony of all that floodwater; the water treatment plants are flooded too. I guess Volvic and Evian will see an increase in profits for the next month.

For future reference, you can get sandbags from builders' merchants, but it's too late for that now, and the emergency services will quickly have the lot anyway. Best thing to do is to always have some around if you own a house on a floodplain.
Gloucester area infrastructure is going to take weeks to fully repair. The difference between best and worst case scenarios is whether the custom 1970s electronics that runs those places survives or doesn't. Good luck with that.

Heh, irritating thing is that we're not on a flood plain here. As far as I know theres never been a flood like this on record, in our area. Honestly didn't think to prepare for that kind of thing --------

That'll be in August
Good luck with salvaging houses and belongings - especially with the neighbours first of the morning floating into the house AS posted before - there is almost nothing you can do to try and keep the water out - it will always find a way. bú$%ú$d water
