Edited by: Mir Net on 22/07/2007 15:45:53 Sorry but the ccp inspired engine, reminded me of the orginal UT engine from way back when, most of the effects and layout in the video look like they were born of the late 90's circa 2000 era.
No way what so ever does it look cutting edge compared to the new engines floating about, black backgrounds with sharp renderd characters, nice shaders with a low polycount might look pretty, but there's nothing technicaly briliant about it.
Even the doom engine totaly owns it for looks imo, what we talking there, 4-5 years old with that.
Interesting to see more of it in a higher res, but from the video, i don't see great strides technicaly forcoming.
Still it's free i guess

I honestly dont know why so many people are up in arms about the Avatar system based on 30 seconds of footage and perhaps an article or two from the developers. CCP could very well be setting it up to include not only ship flight but also FPS combat as well. I can just imagine them introducing a new element to station capturing in that an attacking force needs to actually dock and clear out the station of any person's. But in either case, lets give CCP a bit of credit here, EvE is the companies only game and even if they are developing others, its still their bread basket, do you really think they are going to alienate a large chunk of their player base?

If you are expecting graphics like Unreal Tournament 2008 or Call of Duty IV, I think you will be disappointed. :) Games like that are built from the ground up on engines specifically designed to deliver special effects and allow multiplayer battles with low latency.
I think Eve Ambulation will probably look very, very good, but I dont expect it to compete with the latest action titles. Its a mmorpg after all. It will probably beat the graphics in WoW, Conan and Warhammer though. :)

According to the latest dev blog about it, they wont have combat in the first version. More like just a social room with stuff to do in it.

who cares about technical ****? It is a 10/10 artistically. shadow of the colossus for example got graphics of the year at the GDC and it's no where near the technical power of Doom3, it's just way better looking.
I'd alos like to bring up mario brothers 3 compared to other games on the nes. HUGE different same tech. it's about art damn it not graphics. even though people in the field might disagree with me I don't care I'm an insane artist. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP |

On any rate - Let us hope it will be possible to look out of the station into space to see camps and battles outside !

Well I guess there is no way around instancing. If not it would be nice, however I would much more prefer some video walls, that are able to stream cam content, based on some npc agents or so. Would be interesting also in the way to follow events and such, if you don't want to take part. ;)

In all fairness and not to be to rude, but screw walking in stations. FIX the game 1st then add stuff which is more likely gonna have a huge load on the game and cause problems which in turn if the old stuff aint fixxed is gonna mean a very unplayable game.

I honestly don't understand the anit-walking in station crowd. Here are a few reasons for EVERYONE to get excited about walking in stations.
1. It will be on a different server to the normal system. It would have to be given that the servers barely cope as it is.
2. Some people will be walking in stations instead of flying in space. This means less lag for those in space.
3. Hopefully attracts more people to eve. This means more money for CCP which should equate to more hardware and more staff. This is debatable as many companies prefer to translate things like this to profit, but CCP has shown remarkable dedication to the playerbase in the past.
4. Something different to do, and hopefully a reason to do it. You can't possibly turn down something that will add more depth to the game, can you?
That's it really, and I thing points 1 & 2 really make up most of the argument.
