I have started showing interest in Caldari ships... And as a Amarr i wonder if there is alot of work to start using a Let's say Caldari BC or BS. I can fly Amarr BC's now and very soon a BS almost fully equipped with Tech 2. So my Amarr skills i no problem tbh. How long would it take for me to be able to fly a Caldari BC with good ratting equipment? Somebody set up us the bomb |

Compared to Amarr you need next to nothing to be effective in Caldari.
Just look at the 4 month old characters in ravens with 5.0 sec status running missions nonstop in high sec.

all main shield skills lvl 4(you dont need shield compensation skills that much) all missile related skills 3-4(missile launcher op 5 as prequest of cruise missiles) caldari bs 3-4 bc lvl 3-4(its good to have al ready) cap skills 4(you ara amarr you probly have both at 5) drones can help to(interfacing 3 with scout drone op 4-5 work in most missions against tacklers cruisers buti bet you all ready got t2 drones) and some social for more booty
dont forget salvaging lvl 3-4, and science for looting/salvage
you got the idea i think

I am Gallente, but popped into Caldari battlecruisers in a few weeks. All I had to do was get missile and shield skills to level 4. At level 4, you can buy tech 2 shield equipment (very unfair I know, Armour tanking needs level 5).

But hull upgrades is only a rank 2 skill, while tactical shield manipulation needed for T2 shield hardeners is rank 4 ;)
I'm currently in the same boat, I'm Amarr all the way, but fancy a Raven for empire mission running.
As someone else said, the following skills to 4 tactical shield manipulation Shield upgrades Shield management Shield Operation
Then either hybrid gunnery skills for the ferox, or missile skills for the Drake. As Amarr, the Ferox will probably be quicker to train for, though missiles are better for ratting in most cases.

I'm fairly happy with my Domi, but some of the CNR mission times others can do are a fraction of what I'm capable of. So I've been considering training up for a Raven, with a mostly T2 tank. Here's my list:
Caldari Frig 4 Caldari Cruiser 4 Caldari Battleship 4
Tactical Shield Manipulation 4 Shield Upgrades 4 Shield Management 4 Shield Operation 5 Shield Compensation 4
Missile Launcher Operation 5 Standard Missiles 3 Heavy Missiles 3 Cruise Missiles 4 Guided Missile Precision 4 Warhead Upgrades 4 Missile Projection 4 Missile Bombardment 4 Target Navigation Prediction 4 Rapid Launch 4
I'm probably missing a few there. It all comes in at little over 52 days of training for me, but your mileage may vary. Can't decide if I want to spend that much time training for a ship I would only use for missions. But if I flew Amarr I'd proably go for it without thinking twice.

Please use torps for missions. Anything else makes kittys cry.

Train up those shield skills, add some missile skills, train for the specific Caldari ships you want to pilot, and tweak your gunnery if you want hybrids (railguns). It's a bit easier for Gallente or Minmatar to cross-train into Caldari or vice-versa, but that doesn't stop Amarr from doing it.

The whole idea is about the missiles when it comes to Caldari style PVE. Forget rails.

Here's my other post for a decent listing of skills for a Raven and it's modules.

I disagree about the Torps. I use cruise missiles exclusively, and they work fine for me. Torps are best against BSs, and passable against cruisers, but not so effective against anything smaller. If you have decent drone skills, then you can get away with torps, and use drones on anything smaller than a cruiser. The problem is that some missions are aggravating to use drones with, and using drones can enable other players to scan out your deadspace pocket.
Early on, some missions will almost require you to use torps (like Vengeance), but as your missile skills and implants get better, you can easily stomp any L4 with only cruise, and quickly.

Caldari has the least in common with Amarr, so would need the most cross-training. I really don't recommend it, but then I hate Caldari, so that is a factor...

Never a truer word spoken.
Torps are king.
Also if you want to crosstrain Amarr/Caldari, you could always pickup a Nightmare... Beast of an armour tank, Laser slots, and can strap on Cruise launchers as well...
