OK, I have a problemski...
A few weeks ago, I edited together the first fight in PM2, and all was good. The next time I tried to open the file, I got an error in Premiere (Pro, v1.5) and it told me it had to shut down.
No problem, only 3 minutes of editing done, and wasn't even finalised.
So last night, after a rather fun night of hunting, I remade those first 3 minutes, and added another 5 using the night's footage. All is well, and it looks great 
Except, all is not well.
The file now has the same error.
This error reads - "Sorry, a serious error has occured that required Adobe Premiere Pro to be shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
I've never had this problem before on any premiere project, and can still open those whose footage I have deleted (except I get the 'MEDIA MISSING' footage instead of the actual stuff  ). But all the resources are there for PM2, and nothing is missing. It just gives me that error when it finishes loading...
Well, I have to go out for a few hours, and I'll hope that some people have helped by the time I come back  You'll get an honorary mention at the end of PM2 if you fix it

well mate ive had that error quite a few times when trying to render/pre-render my latest vid along with many other errors i got, expect to have to rip your head off sometime within the next few days
..if you search on google you will see many people have had this problem and there arent many fixes for it (adobe are a great help eh?) ..
heres what i think it was - when looking through the error report that was created i found a bunch of errors - see this topic (Problem) As i slowly skipped through my video it would crash at certain points in the fraps (which led me to think it might be a problem to do with the fraps codec? and i located the frames that seemed to be causing this problem and deleted them, then it pre-rendered ok. however if you read that topic i had many other errors too

The problem with what you suggested is that I can't open the .PRPROJ file to delete anything. It just crashes before its even loaded Premiere opens any of my other .PRPROJ files just fine, only this one is being ***...twice...
Edit---
Ok. I just removed all the Image files in the PM2 folder, and tried to open it. It asked me for the location of 4 of these, then crashed...
Removed just the titles now, and it insta-crashes

lofty - this always happens to me mate. i put it down to 2, 1 of 2 things.
it's either a fraps codec thing or its a couple of bad blocks on your hdd that when you were frapsing, those frames were laid down onto a bad block and it corrupts the video when it streams through it in premier.
i find that the problem with the project file manifests itself if there are too many erros, or the file sizes get too large (sort of compounding the issue).
by far and away the simple answer is not to import fraps footage directly into premier. i use avsvideoconverter to encode all my fraps into wmv format with the absolute maximum bitrate (something like 10kb/s with keyframes every 2 or 3 seconds <- important). this brings the files sizes down making premier less finicky and also washes out all of these errors. the short lag between keyframes make wmv files much more workable in premier.
in the past when i've had this problem, sometimes re-encoding all of the footage in the clip into wmv, deleting (may i suggest just moving to start with) the original fraps files and then renaming the project file. when you open it will have a heart attack looking for the source files and bring up a dialog box, instead of selecting the orginal source, select the wmv version and see how you go. before your do this back everything up, because sometimes you cant revert back.
i also keep 5 versions of the project file continuously overwriting each other and save-as every time i finish a small sequence. the only savior you have is the ability to go back before the errors occur.
another trick that i have found is that for some reason when you load up the number of video timelines it seems to get worse, try breaking your clips into sequences, render the sequences and then lay these down (it's kind of the way that premier was built to be used and it seems to be less picky if you use it this way) - if you're like me you get lazy and have 27+ video tracks all playing together :-(

FRAPS codec has caused this sort of problem for me in the past.
Convert your videos to Lagarith on YV12 mode.
