Oh hey, thanks for an update that really, says nothing :)
If the servers weren't crashing and burning like this pretty much every day recently, perhaps people here might be a bit more tolerant.

If we knew exactly what was causing this we would inform the player base of it. When we have more information we will let you know.

Edited by: Traesh on 23/07/2007 22:43:51 Edited by: Traesh on 23/07/2007 22:43:31 By 'this' do you mean this particular time? Or do you mean the pretty much daily crashes and restarts we've been seeing lately?
And here's a novel idea for you all: How about the next time you go proclaiming about your record-breaking numbers of clients connected at once, how about a dipatch that shows how many days since the last server crash? Or hours, for that matter. You know what I mean, like those big companies that have the sign out by the gate announcing how many days since the last work-related accident?

why to chill...i think we are paying for this game. i have huge gaps in skills because of those often crashes. and instead of putting new things, they should spend more time fixing old ones. and make this game more stable. eve is the only game i have on my computer..and i think u see whats my opinion on it. the best game ever.. a year ago, i used to play. i cant recall of any single crash. thats how often they used to be. compare to those today..i would say eve is about to die.

Come on guys, it wasn't their fault.
Calm down, I'd like to see someone do a better job than CCP does. Everytime the server goes down, it is probably middle of the night where they are, and they fix it within an hour or two, maybe less. Just be glad you can play the game.
My skill I was training ended about 5 mins after the server crashed, you don't see me complaining... I'm glad the server wasn't down any longer than it had to be.

Thanx very much for this GM Retrofire. Nice to see an official giving some info during these issues.
As for people complaining about the info being crap and not really telling us anything, I disagree. Atleast Retrofire has took the time to post here and also mentioned that "it will be updated when we have more information to release", meaning exactly what it says, more info when available. Instead of complaining we should be thanking Retrofire and just hope that CP gets this fixed soon.

Wordup brother.
I'm sure they do the best they can, the least we can do is tell them "Great job" or "Thanks!" every now and then.

Give em a break!!
Over that year they'll have had to deal with the various version's of Window's and it's various leak's, fixes, updates, patches, leaks, more leaks .. etc etc
Just think, EvE could be run by Blizzard .. THEN you'd have something to worry about.

CCP, and CCP :P, but doesn't mean that the failure or w/e to the SQL database was made by them.

Not realy, ever had a fault with your Car? even though you maintain it well? bits wear out, Code isnt fool proof. you can do every thing you can and then sudenly a volcano errupts, basicly s*** happens sometimes. all that we can do is hope that lesons are learned and I'm shoure they will be. I dobut CCP Like this any more then we do after all who wants to deal with a bunch of angrey Customers?

"give em a break"?! i am not telling all those things just like that. they are based on somethings.. i lost few millions of skill points because of those crashes and not to mention web crashes, credit card problem and such. i do believe in ccp and job that they are doing. but i feel a lack of respect toward us players. not that they are doing that directly. i know..its a hard job. but as i said, cut on those new things, new things = new problems. focuse on old ones. make this game stable. and those petitions..just awful. they shouyld bring online some support chat channel for out of game problems. just something. i am useing this stuppid trial..because i cant go online, they canceld my account a week earlier. it should go off on 26th..is that a bug too??! and those that are playing eve like wow and are cool on craches..they should stay out of this. eve is more serious than that. people are putting their time and a lot of effort on their characters. so i dont want others to waste that.

Thanks for the update CCP.
To all the people saying it isn't their fault: we need to hold our gaming companies accountable. Yes, things do happen and so far the community has been pretty accepting. But for a fee based community, it is critical to hold those who run and administer the game responsible for its performance. Daily outages that occur randomly are not what I pay for. I understand in the grand scheme of things, the ammount of time the game was down is small compared to how much it cost me, but it is important that we be alert of such things. Keeping the game up and running and not having daily crashes is an expectation of mine, and should be of each and every person who plays eve.
So in in short: demand outstanding service for your money from CCP. It is your right as the customer to do so, but please be polite while doing so. |

Yes, they should be accountable, but sometimes it is not within their reach to prevent each and every problem that shows up. Random crashes are just that: random.
I do expect CCP to do what they can to make the game run smoothly, but sometimes they can't help whatever comes up and deal with it.

But of course it was. CCP built EVE. CCP built EVE's flaws. CCP has fixed some but not all of them. CCP chose MS-SQL, CCP chose Stackless Python, CCP made all the choices that lead to the outage today, yesterday, the day before...

There is no such thing as a random crash. They all have definite causes. Computers are totally deterministic machines. They always crash for a reason, never randomly. -- Guile can always trump hardware -- |
