Oh hey, thanks for an update that really, says nothing :)
If the servers weren't crashing and burning like this pretty much every day recently, perhaps people here might be a bit more tolerant.

Edited by: Traesh on 23/07/2007 22:43:51 Edited by: Traesh on 23/07/2007 22:43:31 By 'this' do you mean this particular time? Or do you mean the pretty much daily crashes and restarts we've been seeing lately?
And here's a novel idea for you all: How about the next time you go proclaiming about your record-breaking numbers of clients connected at once, how about a dipatch that shows how many days since the last server crash? Or hours, for that matter. You know what I mean, like those big companies that have the sign out by the gate announcing how many days since the last work-related accident?

why to chill...i think we are paying for this game. i have huge gaps in skills because of those often crashes. and instead of putting new things, they should spend more time fixing old ones. and make this game more stable. eve is the only game i have on my computer..and i think u see whats my opinion on it. the best game ever.. a year ago, i used to play. i cant recall of any single crash. thats how often they used to be. compare to those today..i would say eve is about to die.

Come on guys, it wasn't their fault.
Calm down, I'd like to see someone do a better job than CCP does. Everytime the server goes down, it is probably middle of the night where they are, and they fix it within an hour or two, maybe less. Just be glad you can play the game.
My skill I was training ended about 5 mins after the server crashed, you don't see me complaining... I'm glad the server wasn't down any longer than it had to be.

Thanx very much for this GM Retrofire. Nice to see an official giving some info during these issues.
As for people complaining about the info being crap and not really telling us anything, I disagree. Atleast Retrofire has took the time to post here and also mentioned that "it will be updated when we have more information to release", meaning exactly what it says, more info when available. Instead of complaining we should be thanking Retrofire and just hope that CP gets this fixed soon.

Give em a break!!
Over that year they'll have had to deal with the various version's of Window's and it's various leak's, fixes, updates, patches, leaks, more leaks .. etc etc
Just think, EvE could be run by Blizzard .. THEN you'd have something to worry about.

CCP, and CCP :P, but doesn't mean that the failure or w/e to the SQL database was made by them.

Not realy, ever had a fault with your Car? even though you maintain it well? bits wear out, Code isnt fool proof. you can do every thing you can and then sudenly a volcano errupts, basicly s*** happens sometimes. all that we can do is hope that lesons are learned and I'm shoure they will be. "give em a break"?! i am not telling all those things just like that. they are based on somethings.. i lost few millions of skill points because of those crashes and not to mention web crashes, credit card problem and such. i do believe in ccp and job that they are doing. but i feel a lack of respect toward us players. not that they are doing that directly. i know..its a hard job. but as i said, cut on those new things, new things = new problems. focuse on old ones. make this game stable. and those petitions..just awful. they shouyld bring online some support chat channel for out of game problems. just something. i am useing this stuppid trial..because i cant go online, they canceld my account a week earlier. it should go off on 26th..is that a bug too??! and those that are playing eve like wow and are cool on craches..they should stay out of this. eve is more serious than that. people are putting their time and a lot of effort on their characters. so i dont want others to waste that.

Thanks for the update CCP.
To all the people saying it isn't their fault: we need to hold our gaming companies accountable. Yes, things do happen and so far the community has been pretty accepting. But for a fee based community, it is critical to hold those who run and administer the game responsible for its performance. Daily outages that occur randomly are not what I pay for. I understand in the grand scheme of things, the ammount of time the game was down is small compared to how much it cost me, but it is important that we be alert of such things. Keeping the game up and running and not having daily crashes is an expectation of mine, and should be of each and every person who plays eve.
So in in short: demand outstanding service for your money from CCP. It is your right as the customer to do so, but please be polite while doing so. |

Yes, they should be accountable, but sometimes it is not within their reach to prevent each and every problem that shows up. Random crashes are just that: random.
I do expect CCP to do what they can to make the game run smoothly, but sometimes they can't help whatever comes up and deal with it.

But of course it was. CCP built EVE. CCP built EVE's flaws. CCP has fixed some but not all of them. CCP chose MS-SQL, CCP chose Stackless Python, CCP made all the choices that lead to the outage today, yesterday, the day before...

For some reason, you guys letting me know it was an SQL error instead of just leaving us in the dark makes me feel better & more sympathetic for CCP. Maybe its cause I've had my own fair share or SQL mishaps :p
But for the love of god dont roll us back to 2003!

listen, i like to goof around..and there is nothing bad in it. also i am quite serious when people dont give u appropriate service u already payed for. and i am complaining with reason. they canceld my account a week before expiration..without anything to explain that move. and not to mention my waiting for reply on my petition..its almost two weeks. and if u are gonna pay for my subscription..i will stop complaining. i dont see any reason not to act like i do. eve thing is just like u bought a new tv..and it doesnt work. and your comment is just like u are ok with that. if u are, i have a lot of old junk in my back yard to sell u, as a new stuff of course . and u dont have any argument to tell me that all i do is complaining! because u cant prove me that what i am doing is wrong!

Somehow this doesn't surprise me.. lol But I'll give you a clue, there's no reason to carry on like a kid when in MMO standards CCP's track record is pretty good. They've had some database problems recently as they've just admitted too and unless you demand perfection reasonable people will be able to put up with a few problems till they get it fixed.

thing is that they stole me a week of playing. canceling my account earlier that it should be... and i am not acting like kid, because i am not.. i just act as a person who is getting robbed from day to day.
i will stop complaining. and i will pay this time..and reactivate my account again, for a last time. and thats the last euro from me, if they continue this way. and to add this too, ccp could change a pattern and answer on some petition..
i am sick of wasting my time on stupid arguing. i just want to play eve and enjoy this awesome game..

People can defend it all they like but I always thought the point of having to pay repeatedly for a game was that that money went towards maintenance, etc.
I haven't been around long but I've easily seen regularly 25000+ people on at any one time. Assuming that it isn't the same people on 24/7 CCP and at about ú10 a month each they're easily taking several million pounds per month. And this has been the 2nd/3rd time in a day people have been kicked out? Or do they just not bother testing their patches before releasing them?
Seperately surely since the playing community recognise Jita as a problem why haven't CCP done something about it?
Great game when it works let see a bit more of where our money is going

So when the server crashes once in a blue moon then it's no biggy and what's that crap posted earlier about losing millions of SP from crashes??? I agree, that if you aren't training a skill they should put some points in a skill to offset the time you were offline. I don't really care what its in even... maybe have it pick something you already have partially trained. Whatever the case is, this ALWAYS happens when you have a skill about to run out >_<
I keep close tabs on my skills, so this has a profound effect on careful planning.
But more details on what causes these issues would be great too. The Sticky Ikki |

Edited by: Sue Malorie on 25/07/2007 21:24:34 Last time the hamsters took a break (or was killed by the "spineless" Python), I was in the middle of Angel Extravaganza very last spawn until the boss rat. After the server went up again, I had to redo all the gates again. At the last gate, I saw mine drones. I begin to shoot the closest rat and ended up with scooping all the T2 heavy drones without any damage.
So, even with drones out just before server/node crash, you may get ship and drones back. Today I had the lvl 3 mission; "The Hamstring". Now I may need to do more hamstring, nothing I'm against to do, since the rats are Mercs cruisers, giving some nice loot. As for the skill training, even I may loose a hour or two, it doesn't matter specially when I train rank 5-6 skills.
CCP do their best to let the 24/7 hard working hamsters lives and the server will be back online as soon as ccp / GMs have sortet things out.

I have read at least 5 of your posts, all you do is complain.
You even complain about things and have conversations with yourself.
I have read at least 5 of *your* posts and all you do is come up with excuses for virtually any sort of problem this game has... practice much in real life?

this game is so damn awesome. so complex and endless..with great design (not including ships, 80% of them ), and huge open space to explore, people to meet with..things to do. but whats the use, when u cant enjoy it. it makes me more nervous than joyfull . and that lag...jeeze. i am about to kill when that happens .
enough from me.. goin to log and check whats on. maybe they answered petition after a month !

While I'm a bit concerned at the problems occuring since last patch, I'm definitely very greatful to see a thread at least feeding back what information there is. Cheers CCP.

It's strange really, that after numerous patches ppl still don't get used to the 'fact' that even tho there is lot of testing involved, there will be unnoticeable flaws that won't show on the test servers. It happens, get used to it. And if it doesn't happen, be happy.
To all the 'whiners' here please try World of Warcraft and compare Blizzard's customer support to CCP's. Atleast CCP is getting the server(s) back up in reasonable time. With Blizzard it's mostly down to 'explaining the issues on forums' and 'hoping that customers will understand'.

I love how ppl say don't CCP test the patches first, um test servers ever heard of them.. they are a great feature but even if you check every detail on the test server YOU WILL NOT FIND EVERY ISSUE...
Test server max limit = 500 (i think) TQ server = ENDLESS
so they cannot predict how such a high load will affect the patch... this is why patch days are normally bad days
and now to those saying OMG I pay to play yada yada ya... NO YOU DON'T.. READ EULA!!!!
you pay for the privilege to have an account on CCP servers, there is a nice big chunk of it stating CCP aren't responsible for unexpected/extended DT's. You agreed to this EULA so sorry but read it and weep..
Yes these DT's suck, but take into account this is one of the most complex computer setups in the world (there is an article somewhere) i think CCP are doing a pretty good job..
