No. One server is what makes eve speial, your actions can effect everyone playing eve.

But he does have a point, if they did split there would be no lag...there would be noone playing...

It already is. That is an old news article you read.
Another thing to note is 1 shard != 1 server. The EVE cluster is made from several servers, last time I read a blog with their current hardware they had over 70. Jita has a node all to itself for crying out loud.

CCP is aware of the issues, and working on it. Threads encouraging "/signed" spamming isn't constructive, and this therefore gets a lock. Trust me on this; CCP is well aware of the problems, and that the players are concerned about it, there is no need to spam a thread to show it.
