Exactly. I'm sorry some people got that impression from my post, but I'm hardly rolling in it. Shockingly, the people who manage voice and data service provisioning/installs for corporate clients are not the most well paid people on the planet.
If I was a millionaire myself, don't you think I'd have a real spaceship by now?

What EVE needs is not 10 MB patches, what EVE needs, in my opinion, is a major engine overhaul. Rumor has it we're getting that sometime soon, and I couldn't be more hyped about that.

I'd be happy if they'd quit releasing new little crappy patches every Tuesday like they have for the past few weeks.
Unless it's some big emergency, consolidate the patches a bit.

Many people have lost skill time or ships or expensive stuff to all this bull crap, and what are you doing to justify this?
You guys have a test server, but it might as well be called the Carebear server, where all the carebears go to play waste a quarter hour fitting ships to go shoot at other people. Don't get me wrong on it though, some of the skilled players go on there and kick some carebear arse, like Tank CEO. You guys use the test server if lucky, once a month AS a test server.
I demand compensation for the time you have taken away from me and my fellow brethern, the people who play this game along side me, whether it be ISK or SP, or ships or free game time.
I love eve because its the only game out there where your free. But with each patch that causes more downtime, more Rabble threads, more "the server is down due to unexpected errors" (which isn't that F'ing hard to figure out, its the patch that you installed before testing thoroughly) My love for eve, dissipates, and its now dissipating on a more rapid level from these weekly unexpected downtimes, the server was perfect in 2006, hardly any downtimes, well right before revelations was installed.
I'm tired of this, i only have 22 months left before im on my own, and i dont want it to be with a bunch of downtimed months.
I refuse to take my ships out and PVP this past month because of this what appears to be a near daily downtiming, well weekly.
A lot of people are tired of it, I've even seen a few people leave over it.
And anyone who feels that CCP is working hard at fixing this up good, your wrong, We wouldn't have these downtimes in the first place if CCP would put the patches through thorough testing, they just change the code, and slap it on TQ as if it was a decal on the back of a truck, so don't counter attack this
I've gotten everything i wanted to say off my chest, please consider the hard working payers who pay to play this game, as well as the people who put their love into this game. I will stick to EVE for hopefully many years to come, but not if this stuff keeps up.
I am Flynn Tagart, President of the Blood Eagle Federation, and Emperor of the Soldiers of the Forgotten Abyss alliance, Hear me roar, and fly safe everyone, and i also hope those who got stuck in lvl 4's/5's didn't lose their ships, if did, hopefully its all freely reimbursed.

To OP...
Read the licence agreement you agreed to when you started playing. CCP has every right to take the server down at any point with no compensation. Deal with it or stop playing MMOs, they are all the same in this way.

Funny thing about all the brain-fart fanbois in threads like this, coming up stupid one-liner crap come-backs, is that defending a crappy service is actually one of the best ways to alienate people from it. You think that if all the "whiners" f***ed off it would be better, eh? The absense of their "whines" would definitely please you, but the absense of their subscription would mean that CCP will have even less resources to carry on what seems like one of the longest betas of MMORPG games I'm aware of - you can see the beta state even while logging or creating a new character and the server disconnecting you if you cannot manage in under 3mins... Why do you think CCP is trying so hard to get more people into the game, eh? Because they bathe in money already?
Unlike the OP I can't even be arsed to count for how many months I live on my own already, am married and pay for everything in my life out of my own bank account. I make a living as a software developer for mainly industry clients and frankly if what I made was that buggy or seemingly patched up in a hurry nobody would bother paying me a dime. In industry nobody gives a wet fart if you are doing your best, the only thing that matters is whether it works and whether it works well enough. Glitches and downtime are simply not acceptable, as downtime directly translates into lost profit and you cannot speak about days of downtime because of fault that can be traced back to you unless you don't mind looking for a new job.
Entertainment software has a much different audience as clients, mostly kids that haven't actually done something like this for a living with actual clients and as such are willing to tolerate crap in absurd proportions with the inevitable gang of game fanatics that defend whatever title no matter what. CCP is providing mediocre standard of service, by comparison 15 Euro per month is expensive in terms of MMORPGs and the service quality is hardly meeting the price standard. I don't give a damn if they are doing their best, I care if the service runs smoothly, whether it's good enough, and it isn't - it's that simple.
If I paid for a prime quality TV channel to watch the football championship I wouldn't give a rat's ass if they were doing their best if I lost even 1min of a match as, simply, I have paid to be able to watch it without any glitches as it's their problem to prevent such to begin with and there are redundency methods out there to do exactly that, that's part of what I'm paying them for. Nobody gives a damn about excuses, only actual results, unless you deal with nerdy kids of various ages that is. I'd like to see you if your electricity at home was cut at arbitrary hours of the day for no apparent reason and being told that they do their best to fix it anyway, I'd really like to see you saying that it's ok and so on and mainly convincing others that it's ok too You know - you can light a candle and read a book and so on...
There is a good reason why EVE is still a niche game, 4 years into continued development afforded by the people optimistic enough to support the people doing it in the hopes that it will get better. That sort of service implies that the game will continue to be a niche game too - not many would agree to blindly support the devs with that level of quality. And since the game is niche it will take a bloody long time, if ever, to see this experimental project through simply because plenty of the "whiners" do leave for something else. There are other ways to spend 180 Euro per year - I've played games for years that didn't require a subscription at all and provided just as much fun for a mere fraction of the overall price of EVE, as basically we pay for having fun - can you get the idea? Most probably not...
You will get no better service than what you ask for - you keep implying that crap like this is OK and is perfectly acceptable then you will continue to get plenty more of it, fanbois Good luck co

Oh, get off your high horse, OP. Leave the horse and your stuff, though. Someone will want both.
If you honestly think they push untested patches to live, you're ignorant at best, moronic at worst. A limited test server environment cannot break things the same way as 35K eve starved players all slamming onto the server at the same time. Stuff breaks, deal with it or give me your (broken) stuff.

Edited by: Gaven Blands on 26/07/2007 12:11:52 Ok Flynn. Chill. Take a deep breath. Understand a little thing.
Capitolism's primary drive is to increase profits at any cost. The first casualty of capitolism is usually quality. Because quality costs exponentially. Whereas quantity reaps linearly. So quantity over quality.
Separately you purchase, from CCP, a licence to use their software. That licence operates at 100% reliability. While ever it is paid for, you are 100% allowed to use the software. You do not buy the software itself, which is obviously flawed.
This is now common practice amongst all copyable media supplies. Music. Video. Software.
Because your licence always remains 100% as good as the day you bought it, these outlets are not subject to the sorts of laws that say a car manufacturer have to abide by. ie, you expect the thing to work.
Yes it sucks. Yes I agree with you. Yes you need to understand what makes this world mediocre.
Accepting your fate will release you from a lot of stress.
Unless you are planning a communist or anarchistic armed revolution. In which case, give me a call.

When was the last time the test server had 5k people on it let alone 25k - 32k. Not everything can be completely tested before its released into the wild. I don't see you moaning about Microsoft Windows and the constant patches they release. Windows XP for example has been out for ~5yrs now and is STILL being patched for things that are broke on it.

Unfortunatly, one does not have to do with the other. I'll get a graph for you.
No need for a graph, all you need is experiance playing an MMO that you do have to pay for expansions. Whenever there is a large patch the downtime is longer, the bugs are significantly worse and game inhibiting, if things went really bad the lag is tremendous and crashes frequent, crashes last longer than eve crashes, and you still dont get compensation.
At least thats what i remember from EQ2 days upon days of server up yet posts. Eve is doing just fine in my opinion Your signature image exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Sahwoolo Etoophie |

Jacques Danton,
I can not quote your post because it was too long. You make complete sense, however, you are asking for the impossible. Updates and patches to improve performance can not be implemented on an operating system. Therefore, the system has to be taken down when these are being put in place.
These improvements are tested but can not be tested for full game loads. If the loads are too much or something is broken. This is fixed within 24 hours of the initial service patch via an overnight effort.
In my opinion, instead of being regarded as horrible service or a horrible product this is an agressive customer service stance, prone to risk, that I personally appreciate. No other software comes out with the same level of patches as quickly as CCP.
Other companies are too afraid and obsessively test things because they are afraid of the risk. Me, I appreciate that rather then be paralyzed by a fear of making things worse; CCP instead constantly trys to improve thier game's performance while still adding more depth and creativity to the game on a rutine basis.
Anything else would be far too stagnant. Performing change and growing is painful. But I would much rather see CCP trying to do something about (despite the downtimes) rather then see them spend almost a year per patch because they are afraid they will have to keep messing with it.
Also, even when companies spend a year testing patches they always screw it up anyway because testing and theory means Jack when it comes to implementation. The real problems come during implementation and no amount of testing ever finds all of them.
