I'd have to agree with you that Bjork is "way out there", but i'm not sure that your definition of the term and mine are in agreement.
I'd vote for
"Feur frei" by Rammstein for combat music. Nothing quite like it for getting you in the mood for mayhem
BTW when someone says "this game is bjorked", it's not meant in a good way

Space Pew Pew game needs Space Pew Pew music. It does have this music, but personally I think Bjork WOULD be able to add alot to it as well. Dunno about Rammstein though, never felt that fast rock music or techno fitted very well with the pace of the game and combat (look at fanvids people have been doing, more ofen than not they are sped up, or cut so that only the interesting seconds out of 15 minute fights are shown).

Well, not really, but COULD. Really, could. Think about it *cough*
If you want good pewpew space music, Hurry on over here and get yourself the improved Starcontrol 2 music. Play it on your preferred music repeating program and hilarity/good times will follow

I was thinking more of the ones where you have to blow up pleasure hubs and take exotic dancers on board. Seems appropriate somehow.
Anyway, if we're going for Icelandic artists, I usually listen to Sigur Ros and Mum when I'm missioning.

Noo Way! My first choice would be some instrumental tracks by Trent Reznor (NIN), The atmosphere he creates in the tracks from 'The Fragile' suit this game down to a 'T'.. Also I beleive he's no stranger to In-Game scores. I think he did some stuff for Quake, and was supposed to have helped out on the sounds for Doom-3, although I don't think he followed through on that one.
For me, I love turning off the ingame music, and having some Nine Inch Nails playing minimized in the background. Think "Just Like You Imagined".. nice instrumental peice, not too fast paced, but epic enough to send shivvers down my spine while ratting.

NIN-4TW
IIRC, Verenna the drummer from NIN did the only track in doom 3, the menu track, with his solo project Tweaker.
I think anyway, I used to have the track, very tool-ish, very good. I'd be up for both NIN or Tweaker doing in game stuff, but it'd have to be ambient music, which is the big difference between that and CD stuff

Normally I don't do that, but the only thing in the entire universe of the history of the world that I'm nitpicky about is Nine Inch Nails facts and trivia. Call it a curse, call it a burden, call it from a payphone. (Just dodge the shiny satellites.)

I would only condone the pope being in the game if I could shoot him and personally introduce him to God.

Probably what I hear most in EVE videos has been my genre of "Crap Metal". Which is a subset of Metal where I put all of the types I don't like in there.
Although the Zombies bombing of Yulai video, has the Cranberries song of the same name, which always amuses me.

i would love Bjorks music in-game.
another great candidate would be Sigur Ros. i'm sure they could do some great "bladerunneresque" twists on their formula. there are also thousands (almost...) of other artists who could contribute relevant sounds such as labradford, yo la tengo (sounds of the sounds of science, not their other stuff), m·m etc etc
i think this thread will loose though, most eve players seem to dig the metal/hard rock and techno variants.
if trent rezn0rz had any association with eve i would be one sad panda.

i'd rather have something of the harder variety added. don't get me wrong, the music we have currently is fine, i just can only listen to it when i'm high or something. it bores me to death otherwise. good maybe for when you're staring at the purty lasers hitting the asteroids, but doesn't really cut it for those times you're rolling around 0.0 with friends looking for trouble.
i used to enjoy the momentary upbeat music you would hear activating an acceleration gate for a mission but i haven't even heard that music in ages and could never find any of it on the jukebox.
let's get some slipknot in there, maybe some rise against, a little static-x or mushroomhead perhaps?
(the music i've seen in some RA videos rocks, too. no idea what the lyrics are but i totally dig the music in them.)

though i'm ever the fan of a good hook, melody isn't an obligatory cornerstone of music. i like music which is challanging to listen to: the kinda music you aquire a taste for eg sonic youth are mostly totally atonal and make lots of uncomfortable noise, but it's frickin awesome.
though i'd love everyone to be a fan of overdriven reverberated noise, i can appreciate why it does capture the interest of the majority of people.
music is like religion. no one'll ever agree, there is just music which fits to our personal interests etc.
anyways. that's a de-rail right there. chances are, if bjork submitted music appropraite for the game, and no one knew it was bjork, most people would enjoy it as much the current eve jukebox.
i'm gonna stop typing now.
