I am trying to figure out how much DPS a good ship could handle. This is not factoring in another ship doing remote repping. One ship, solo, best DPS tanked. Active or passive, must be sustainable.

The Maelstrom has the highest sustainable PVP tank in the game, but almost anything can tank 1500+ raw DPS these days, if you just put on a few rigs. 1500 is a nice mark, as that's just a little over what a maxed out Blasterthron can throw at you. Any two month old character can fit a tank (again, with a full PVP setup) that can handle that.

What do you mean with sustainable?
Sacrifice all weapons for tank? Will you use nos? Cap boosters? If you get nossed?

Well given that you could fit the same tank to a Hyperion and benefit from its armour repair bonus I would think that its tank would be better.
The Maelstrom gets a bonus on its sheild boost amount so for active shield tanking it is the best.
The Abbadon gets bonus on its armour resistances making its tank ipretty impressive. The Rokh gets bonus on its shield resistances so again its tank is pretty impressive. You get very good nos resistant setups using these two ships.

Edited by: KD.Fluffy on 29/07/2007 00:04:11 nah resistance bonus is greater then shield boost amount. Trust me, rokh has a stronger tank.

Yeah a completely dedicated setup can tank that damage for a short period of time. Its not however easy or cheap. I want to see a two month old char tanking 1500 dps for any respectable time.

Edited by: pandymen on 29/07/2007 01:31:12 Yeah, but I'd like to see a 2 month old character get the huge amount of isk to buy the faction mods and be willing to risk it on a pvp ship.
Edit: And yes I know that he didn't specify it was for pvp...but he would just use a raven if he wanted the best pve ship.

Hyperion rig with 2 nano pump and 1 nanobot accelarator dual large t2 armor repair, with an active hardener tank (t2 if possible). Add 1 reactor control and fit 7heavy nos and 1 med in high.
thats one of the heaviest tank that can be bought with near 200mil total (no ship insurance).
Ya its a support ship but the dosdomi die to it haha

Maelstrom can tank the greatest DPS of any non-capital ship, but that tank will obviously not last as long as a weaker, passive tank.

a corp mate has made an active shield boost maelstrom setup that is runnable permenantly without cap charges. (as long as you dont get nosed). however no gyros can be fitted but its still neat.

Problem is that that fitting isnŠt Cap sustainable. You have to use Gist X-type or 8xHeavy Dim nos to be sustainable (according to EFT). I used an DCU II to get some more tanking. With maxed skills and rigs and got the following numbers on the Rokh:
EM 7802 Thermal 9752 Kinetic 13003 Explosive 19504 Average 11145
Could get a little higher numbers with Maelstrom but it wasnŠt cap sustainable. But now we are only speaking theretical highest as this fitting isnŠt very usefull for PvP as well as to expensive.. Not as n00by as it might look.. |
