Edited by: Joshua Calvert on 29/01/2004 22:05:18 Below are 3 examples of the new in-space ship colours.
They are marvellously idiotic.
Example #1:
http://www.frothy.org/images/dont shoot him-1.jpg
This fine example shows a member of [TPFM] - The People's Front of Minmatar. Curse Alliance member (note the -10 security rating) and also a naughty boy (notice the -0.1 security rating)with a pretty yellow ship symbol. Nothing wrong with this picture and is unlikely to result in any mistakes.
Example #2:
http://www.frothy.org/images/dont shoot him-2.jpg
In this example we see Edawg of [c0w] - Carebears on Weed. He has a -10.0 standing and a slightly negative security rating too. His ship symbol is red, the colour normally reserved for enemies you are at war with and therefore can shoot in Empire Space. EV are not at war with [c0w].
Example #3:
http://www.frothy.org/images/shoot shoot him.jpg
This example shows Fenix UA of [RUS] - RUS. We are at war with this pilots corporation and he has a neutral/positive security rating. As you can see, the ship icon is orange.
CCP, do you not feel you have made the orange/red colours far too close considering the vastly different reactions you'd get from shooting either coloured-icon in Empire?
No mistakes were made by myself this time but it could so easily have happened.

It would be nice if we could choose our own colours like in the auto scanner. ---

Edited by: Noobious on 29/01/2004 22:05:21 They seem to be lacking common sense too, they total changed cap drainers, but did they include the BP's nope perhaps they want me to do 1000 agents missions, **** that.
and another thing I noticed whilst looking at the market and unchecking active items, I noticed some Tech2 items but not all, eg no tech 2 turrets, no tech warp jammers notta, this leads me to belive castor was a "some more tech2 items will be added" patch not a "tech2 patch its all there go find it" am I wrong CCP? If so prove it.
Oh yeah whats the deal with corp standings nice one for changing it although I couldnt see why it needed changing, as soon as I replace the batteries for my crystal ball I'll see how it works

Edawg is not an outlaw. He has a -0.3 rating.
If a negative rating is meant to produce such a red colour, please explain why Frosty of [TPFM] who has the exact same circumstances (-10.0 corp rating and negative security rating) is a different colour.

Edited by: MaiLina KaTar on 29/01/2004 22:13:27 Lemme see:
Example 1 YouŠve set a -10.0 rating towards him/his corp. So as you said everythings cool with that yellow bracket.
Example 2 Well, looks like a minus secrating makes you an outlaw, so red for him. But actually it depends on whether you have your standings set towards them or not, because if you did, he should actually be yellow since standings set by you/your corp have higher priority according to the patchnotes.
Example 3 Is totally ok. Corpwars get orange brackets.
Only example I find strange is 2.

Why can't it be something simple like:
Same Corporation - green Gang Member - blue At war with - orange Outlaw (i.e security rating of -10.0 down to -5.0) - purple Bad corporation/personal standing - yellow
No room for confusion there.

I just really dislike how close the orange and red are.
Try getting an example in a solar system with a background that is mainly red.

You should think yourself lucky, I am colour blind and can barely tell the difference between the green or yellow let alone the red and orange
I'm just going to shoot everyone just to be on the safe side.

I Agree with Joshu, red and orange in those examples do look pretty close to me. However at least your corp settings go red.. Ours don't :(
Unless we set personal standing to -10.
The existing corp standings we have where our corp sees another corp at -10 still show as white :(
Does the new method of working mean each individual corp member has to set every corp we want at +10 to +10 for colouring? Or is it a bug that we can't see corp standings of +10 or -10 with any colour?

Agreed 100%...this is a problem for us color blind people. If anyone has a quick fix or suggestions please post. Thanks, Primo x

It is not ok. Green means ok, Blue means friend, Red means danger, orange means something in between. Its just like that. How much sense would it be if they made war enemies blue or green? Wars must be red.
Also, no regards for color blind people, no regards for the scanner settings. ____________________________________ Taggart wants YOU. Join TTi! *waves his hand in your face in the jedi way* |

Read the patch notes; this is wrong. It might be right in 21st-century Earth, but that's completely irrelevant to 234th-century EVE.

Outlaw can be marked by the corp. For instance, EVERY meber of Biomass Cartel, Space Invaders, or Huff Technologies that I see when not in gang is red. No matter the security status of the individual.

Im colour blind so imagine my joy with these changes.
For me I cannot tell the differences between purple and blue (not an issue) and orange and red (quite a major problem).
I find it ridiculous that someone with -0.1 Sec rating would be Red but someone Im actively at war with is Orange.
Someone dropped the ball on this idea ...
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

Right, but outlaw (red) was supposed to indicate free-fire, remember? Someone with -5.0 security or lower was free-fire anywhere without penality (but still NOT poddable without penalty). Has this changed?
The point is by all universal color alert codes, Red should always == "shoot me! shoot me!! SHOOT ME!!!" *BANG* ...yourrrrrr'e dethPICable. oops, sorry, Daffy moment.

BH is right.
Red and Orange should both be shootable in Empire - but clearly if the bad guy in Josh's example was just -0.3 then shooting = Concorde pwning your ass...

Easy, change the shapes, use circles/squares etc.. but mostly.. make it customisable! Eg, for me #00AA00 (darkish green) and #FFFF00 (yellow) are much easier to tell apart than #00FF00 (bright green) and yellow, which are impossible to distinguish using the small blocks of colour in this game.
Either that or make them solid blocks of colour. Although I too am colour blind (yellow and green are hard to distinquish and limits my choices in the autoscanner, as are the red and orange in this game).
I keep faith, it's only what I believe in that changes.

... Won't hold my breath waiting for it; if you poke around the EVE user interface files, you'll find that all icons in the main view are pre-drawn textures. Allowing colour and shape customization for those would require quite a bit of code change, i guess. o.O

I agree Josh... in fact one of the most common forms of color blindness is the one that a large percentages of males get... a partial color blindness.
I'm one of these afflicted with partial color blindness... it just means I see colors different to the majority...
If CCP want to read up on color blindness there is this good article HERE that shows what it means to us guys. -------------------------------------------
