Ok, here is the situation.
We are at war with another corp. One of their members challenges me to a 1 on 1 and assures me the rest of their guys will abide by it. So I say fine and have my guys ready to launch just in case.
So I take out a Tristan vs his Thorax and we begin. We battle and slug it out and despite losing a third of my structure I gain the higher ground and pound the hell out of the Rax after popping all of his drones and he cant seem to connect his shots on me. His cap runs out and I take him into structure and he warps away. He claims I should have had a scrambler on him.
Now I am far from a newb but when I have done duels before you don't warp out when you start to lose. I guess I shouldnt have thought he would honor the duel but what can I say... I sometimes have too much faith in humanity heh.
Wanted to get some opinions on this one.

Edited by: DubanFP on 30/07/2007 01:02:09 It's not a win if you don't kill him, seriosly. Duels have no rules unless stated otherwise. You shoulda scrambled him if you intended to kill him. ______________________

You have to bring a scram to a duel unless previously agreed that the duel is to the death, so no running.
Or...just don't 1v1.

I don't agree to 1v1 anymore. Too many dishonorable people like to warp their gang in on you just to score a cheap kill. The last time that happened to me, he was 50km+ away from me and his gang warped to 0 on him. I just warped off. To repay his insolence, we camped the other side of the gate (deadend system) and podded him. go us. If you want to know who the guy who did that was, evemail me ingame. I promise you that after reading this story, the name of his corp will make you lol. I swear it. this is not a signature, whatever anyone has told you is false. look away |

Exactly.
We see quite a lot of posts in here about 1v1s and all of them are negative. Someone dishonors or someone doesn't know the rules before getting into it.
The simple fact is, you shouldn't be doing 1v1. If you're dumb enough to accept a 1v1 EXPECT to be cheated, and truthfully, why wouldn't you?
You don't want to lose your ship anymore than the other person and it's human nature to defend themselves if it comes to that. If i'm about to lose a few hundred mil ISK in a fight, you're damn right i'm calling some friends to save me. You'd be a complete idiot not to.
Then again, I don't ever offer or accept 1v1s. Imo, eve's pvp should be a tactical battle. If you see some dude all alone and you're by yourself and you attack - there's your 1v1. Why open up the opportunity for him to rally friends to back him up? Just shutup and go attack him.
Anyway, 1v1s are always bad news. Anyone that's been in the pirate game long enough knows that it's just smart to stay away.
Cheers --

Edited by: Calvin Firenze on 30/07/2007 01:43:16 To me, its all about the fight...I'm not about to have a gang warp in on me and kill the guy I agreed to fight with. It's dishonorable and not a real kill imo. If you can't agree to a 1v1 to the death, gtfo. That just tells me you have zero confidence in your skills/setup. I'm kinda used to losing ships...Linkage
I also pretty much shoot at anything that shows up on my overview in lowsec too, hence the noobship kills.
EDIT: I foresee flames. Just so folks know, I make ZERO claims about being some kind of great pvper. In fact, I know there are alot better than me, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. this is not a signature, whatever anyone has told you is false. look away |

I don't know, there is still honour out there. I agreed to a 1v1 against a Myrm pilot who I knew flew a mean Domi with t2 drones. I took a t2 Hurricane to the fight fully expecting to lose it whether by being outclassed or ganked by blob, but I was up for the challenge. Terms were to the death no pod, I accepted and didn't scram to save the cap for tank but he simply outclassed me and won, no blob, no smack, clean fight IMO. I didn't try to warp away so not sure if he scrammed. All I can say is that I warped out in my pod with my head held high because I honoured the 1v1, most important thing for me and he earned some massive respect and that's also important to me.
Now to say I trusted him completely would be an unfair assumption, I'm a Pirate, he's an Anti Pirate. Also too many stories about dishonourable acts in 1v1s to make you trust anyone but if you're going to 1v1 don't expect to come back with your ship and you won't be disappointed in human nature. This is an internet spaceships game, not an internet ships in dock game, take a chance every now and again, put the ship on the line, fly with pride, fight with honour, no matter what the other guy does. Go out and earn respect, don't demand it in local. Just because others fight dirty doesn't mean you have to, sure this means you'll get the stuffing kicked out of you on occasion but respect for myself is more important than from some random person on the internet. Rose tinted glasses? maybe but I'm a cynic who likes being suprised that others still have honour in this day and age.
and always remember: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.

/me remembers a certain Wolf pilot that tried to interfere with an agreed upon 1v1.... he died too
That said... I don't fly what I've already lost (meaning... i consider the ship already destroyed while I'm flying it, so I don't mind if it gets blown up or not).. and I sometimes see if someone wants to 1v1... people usually decline

Scrambling the people you intend to kill is kinda important... also, if you were that low on structure, the extra strain of maintaining the scramble and/or the loss of a midslot might have killed you anyway. If you arnt gonna fit one, ram his bum over and over and over... =3

Heh, you shouldn't have 1v1s in belts, I'm a pirate, I saw two shinies on the scanner
(TBH, I didn't know that was a 1v1, had I, I never would have engaged)

If you didn't agree that it was to the death and didn't scramble him then why wouldn't he warp off?
Always agree terms before the fight.

I have no idea why you'd assume no warping if ya hadnt even stated it in terms.
He didnt blob you, he honured it even though he lost but seeing as you didnt have him scrammed he got away. I really dont see why he should have sat there and died when you couldnt hold him :P
But grats on beating a rax in a tristan
