Thats fine forum boy. I was going to make it a long drawn out post. However, my cat jumped on my keyboard and the message posted.
I for one am not going to be paying for a game that cannot run correctly. I canceled my 3 accounts and im going back to wow. Where the gameplay may be for 5 year olds. But at least the servers are stable and on my connection .. lag free.

You do realize that by claiming that you've just canceled your accounts and are going back to World of Warcraft you've destroyed all of your credibility, correct? I also like how your cat only managed to hit the enter button when he/she jumped on your keyboard.

if you have that kind of lag then...
a. you are running missions in Jita or Motsu or some other known lag-town and you should know better than that.
b. you are in a HUGE fleet battle and ... let's just say WoW lags much worse with far less players on the same grid.
c. there is some technical problem with your computer, your ISP, or possibly the server which happens from time to time in all games, even WoW
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
I'd prefer the term "properly sad cynical forum troll" - nothing to contribute but concise brain-farts - makes the community so much better on a daily basis...
The term "forum crusader" just reinforced my impression of a dumb kid somehow... anyways - go on with your pathetic "crusade" - one has to have a purpose in life, for some it is as poor as making forum "crusades", for others, partly, enjoying people making fools out of themselves...
And by the way WoW is, with very few exceptions, i.e. certain realms, lag-free (and to rub it in costs less per month). And since by design it hardly encourages more then 100 people at the same spot it doesn't fail in it's design, while EVE on the other hand is like selling a fully blown van weighting 3 tons the best model of which comes with a 1000cc disel in it... no turbo of course - only for hardcore fans willing to travel light and then only downhill - it's supposed to be able to carry around a lot of people but fails rather miserably at precisely that. It's a good thing that every crappy product out there comes with a handful of "crusaders" to preach it's qualities to the world, it wouldn't be any fun otherwise, no?
My use of the term "forum crusader" was purely sarcastic, actually.
The OP made a one-line post declaring that lag made EVE unplayable - the equivalent of saying that the sky is blue. By declaring this and exclaiming that he (and his three accounts, no less!) were leaving for greener pastures, it suggested that his post was a bid for attention.
And yet, I know that I'll enjoy EVE at it's laggiest more than I'll enjoy WoW with no lag. I avoid massive hubs, I don't fight in fleet battles, and therefore lag is an issue for me approximately 0.1% of the time. When the OP suggests that lag - in general - makes the entire universe of EVE online unplayable, he is intentionally ignoring a multitude of factors, some directly under his control, that contribute to the lag he experiences in EVE on a daily basis. This combination of factors and the bitter way he presented his arguments (if one could call them that) results in him having very little to no credibility, and thus I have no sympathy for him. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |
Please, CCP, can you give me an estimation to when the lag issues are going to be solved. This way, I can pause my account and come back when the game will be playable.
Because actually, your game is more like a paper RPG than a computer RPG. I can ear the server rolling dices and looking in the rules books for the correct table. Is that the first improvment after fusionning with White Wolf ?
And please, block new inscriptions, we are allready too much in this game.
Right - first thing - if saying that EVE lags so much it's often unplayable is for you just as normal as saying that the sky is blue, the sun emits light, etc., etc. that should be telling you something about the quality of service. If the only solution to a problem ingame is simply not playing part of the game, or not playing it in certain days (i.e. when the yankees wake up on weekends, etc.) then this too should be telling you something about the quality of service of EVE too.
What you're preaching is solving the problem by pretending there isn't one. You have a problem with your city - too dirty maybe - move city! Don't like the ruling party - change country! Screwed something with your education or said words that cannot be taken back - suicide! Are you ill - do you suffer - a bullet through the head and all sorts of illness become irrelevant! Jita? No problem - the solution is to pretend Jita does not exist, move system! EVE is screwed, laggy and service quality is bad? The perfect solution - STFU and stop playing it, move game!
Can you possibly grasp how idiotic your line of "solutions" is? They are actually not solutions at all... If you, personally, regard crappy service for something normal and mistake subscription plans with donations, then by all means do enjoy it - it does not however fix anything, nor does it make crap into something edible out of a sudden. Can you follow the logic here?
I'm afraid you misinterpreted me - I didn't say that game-killing lag is the standard for EVE. I'm saying that game-killing lag makes EVE unplayable, which is kind of redundant because game-killing lag, by it's definition, makes a game unplayable.
Some of those are perfectly valid solutions. If you can't solve a problem, then the best you can do it place yourself in a position where that problem affects you as little as possible, which I do. Some players do the opposite (spending alot of time in Jita, for example) and then complain endlessly about how CCP must hire monkeys to code for them because 700 people on a single server causes alot of lag. THe fact that I have experience in network administration and understand the complexities of how the EVE servers work makes me less sympathetic to their - usually uninformed and reactionary - complaints.
Except my service isn't crappy - yours is. And while it would be great if lag didn't exist, it does, and since we don't work at CCP the best thing we can do is just avoid it as much as possible, which I do to great effect. I don't go to Jita, I don't fight in 200 vs. 200 fleet battles, and my game is perfectly playable. I understand that by my personal avoidance of said problems does not make them go away, but since I don't work at CCP the best I can do is file bug reports when I encounter bugs, and make sure I'm not in a position to be impacted by lag, which I do quite well. Going on the forums and making lots of posts threatening to leave and taking all twenty of my accounts with me does nothing to solve any problems. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |
GOD I LOVE WOW! I LOVE IT SO MUCH I THINK I JUST MIGHT CRY.
Ah, EVE is so much MORE in depth - you have less modules than spells, everything is indirectly controlled (to be a bit less prone to lag) and in EVE everything you kill is absolutely different than your last kill making for a great variety... and of course unlike WoW you don't loot the "bodies" or stuff like that...
The crafting system in EVE is so much better too - you wait for months to be able to get that BPO and craft certain ships from the very same ingredients too - exciting and so much DIFFERENT!
You also find MUCH greater mission variety in EVE - per agent level and type you do the exact same what - are there even 20 missions - over and over again, you can even memorize how they go so they are a bit less tedious and the only difference is how fast you can do them and since they are identical you can safely time your "performance"!
I love "grinding" money/LP in EVE by doing (identical and) repetitive tasks in order to afford better, bigger and/or and faction ammo/modules/ships in order to kick butt! So MUCH different it makes me cry!
God, I love cretins that cannot realise that all MMORPGs are fundamentaly the same and that the only thing that changes is the nature of the grind and the nature of the time sinks, all made for the purpose of milking your money away, smaller sums but every month so it doesn't seems as too much when you pay...
WoW performs much better for what it's made for and the audience it is made for, EVE does not... and if you think you are so much smarter than the average WoW player then visit the forums there - some of them post better thought-out posts than your brain-fart, so you're not very convincing in terms of the supposedly higher average EVE player IQ either...
In terms of quality of service WoW is light years ahead of EVE and it was launched about the same time too, costs less and delivers more in terms of quality and performance. I don't care WHY it is so, as a customer I care to get that quality, especially since EVE costs more per month, not being told to avoid the problematic areas of a game or not to play whole screwed sections of it because otherwise I'll be bogged down into problems and somehow that would be my fault (because I was supposedly warned that the game is screwed in those regards I guess )
Ah, let me make it easier for you to comprehend the idiocy of the situation and what you're saying. You buy the van I described - it is sold to you as a human carrier with 8 seats and plenty of space to put luggage in. It weights 3tons and comes with a 45bhp 1000cc non-turbo diesel. You put 8 people in it + some luggage and try to go on a holiday, the thing hardly moves and you call the manufacturer and lo and behold the perfect solution is served - unload the thing and it will move faster, stupid! Can you see now what you're preaching and why I think it is moronic. EVE was made to deliver something it cannot deliver. If Massively Multiplayer fleet battles cannot be delivered then why the flick am I paying for a Massively Multiplayer game? If I wanted to play missions only in empire why not play X3 instead? There is no multiplayer in it either, isn't?
Don't sell vans made for 8 people that cannot possibly carry that many at the same time, nor advertise the van as such - people like you giving the solution of having only the driver in such vans are frankly in a dire need of having their heads checked as far as I'm concerned...
WoW can and does sustain performance for the number of people supposed to play together in an instance - you may not like the nature of the game, but as far as design is concerned - it delivers what it says it will. WoW is designed within the limitations of the technology - EVE is designed as a good wet dream that is seemingly never going to happen but it persistently is trying to convince people that this dream is reality...
Yeah, except it doesn't really.
Clearly you've never been to Ironforge if you think there is no lag in WoW. Back when I used to play it, that place was laggy as hell, and I'm on T1. At least in EVE most people aren't in fleet ops; some WoW cities are lagged up like crazy, and generally most people have to go there somewhat frequently. And the battlegrounds often had lag in them, too.
And for me it doesn't take 30 seconds, and that's in a huge fleet battle with BoB vs Goonfleet and FREGE. And I notice you aren't in an alliance, so that's either an alt post or you haven't been in a fleet battle recently. More likely, you were in Jita. And, more than likely, something is wrong with your ISP because I have T1 too and Jita definitely doesn't lag that badly for me.
But whatever. I just don't know why you would bother posting with something like this and waste everyone's time. CCP doesn't really care if you leave because you go to a place where the most players are concentrated and oh no, you lag a little. Or a lot of your connection is that bad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our piracy may have caused you, but, we are pirates and, sadly, this is our way." |
One question - do fleet battles in Amarr space lag?
I wouldn't know, as I don't fight in fleet battles. That does wonders for avoiding the lag.
While I accept that fleet battles - a fundamental aspect of the game - are currently very laggy there's not really anything that we can do as players - it's up to CCP to fix that. We can help them by filing bug reports, by petitioning ships lost to abnormal lag, but making angry forum posts will do nothing to solve lag.
I suspect that fleet battles will always lag, not because CCP will forever suck in implementing their code, but because alliances will just bring more and more forces to the field until it lags. if 500 vs. 500 battles are suddenly lag-free alliances will just bring a 1000 players to bear on a single battle, and so on. Before this wasn't an issue because EVE's population wasn't large enough for a single alliance to support putting a thousand people in one place at the same time, but we can't exactly forbid people from joining alliances or signing up, now can we? ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |
Then why do "we" tell people not to go to Jita instead? And how do condescending and arrogant posts toward anyone that has the audacity to complain of the mediocre, and why not even amateurish, platform design of EVE help, eh? One node per system should be enough for anyone, right? Doesn't that remind you of a famous quote regarding certain system's 640kb of operational memory?
There is a good reason why system architecture is such a bloody important aspect of software development and scalability one of the most important research aspect today. EVE is born dead by design - it is not scalable enough even today - what will happen if CCP are actually successful in getting more players in? According to your own logic at a certain moment the solution will be to tell them to stop playing at all... EVE is supposed to be a sandbox design offering freedom but come to think about it don't go to Jita and don't go to bigger fleet battles, actually don't expect a smooth performance on weekends either and play alone in (semi-)desolate systems as even though you are free to try nothing else actually works (at all), right? Sandbox - my ass...
Your infantile attitude toward anyone posting negative feedback is mind-boggling. If you think that things will get any better if people posted only positive feedback you definitely need to have your head checked. If you always equal negative feedback to whining then I pity you. If people acted along those positive or death "guidelines" (a-la dead people related conversation manners) humanity would still be in the stone age...
If you didn't think that the lag is actually an integral "feature" of EVE you wouldn't have done that stupid image in your sig, no?
Hum, we are only 30'000 playing in the same time, the servers just have to manage 15'000 vs 15'000 fleet battle.
There is a difference between complaining and whining - complaining brings up whatever valid points you have in a fairly logical manner while avoiding immature language or attention-seeking tactics such as threatening to leave the game. Doing this will most likely cause you to be ignored by anyone who it would matter to and made fun of by the people who it doesn't matter to, such as myself.
I agree with your sentiment that CCP should not be investing in a large marketing campaign aimed at encouraging new players to join while lag is currently such an issue - that's not a move I really understand. I'm not trying to claim that players should perfectly evenly distribute themselves among the server nodes to CCP doesn't have to address lag, what I'm saying is that when it comes down to it, the players have control over their own experience - they choose what to do and where to go.
While that may be true regarding social revolution, on the internet forums for EVE online complaining loudly and immaturely will be ignored, while bringing up valid points in a non-accusatory manner will be paid attention to. Several developers have said this themselves.
Quote: If you didn't think that the lag is actually an integral "feature" of EVE you wouldn't have done that stupid image in your sig, no?
I believe that complaining loudly and immaturely is - regrettably - an unavoidable social feature of forums that allow one to speak with relative anonymity. Complaining about lag is just the latest flavor of complaints, and I believe that image applies perfectly to the OP's post.
Personally I disagree entirely with what you've stated. I don't think the developers ignore issues that people whine about. It may not directly affect how swiftly something gets fixed but I doubt it slows the process down. During my absence from eve I did follow the forums, and your posts do tend to be formed in a certain mindset. You seem to troll whiners, consistently, spouting some brand of CCP Zealoticy, not so much a troll more the antitroll, perhaps thats a new form of forum PvP. While it does not likely slow the process down, I don't think it serves any real purpose if it doesn't help. I'm not going to claim that I'm not biased in CCP's favor, because to a certain extent I am. The reasoning that I am is because, after having worked in software development and network administration, I have a good deal of respect for the system they've created even given the current lag issues. I don't think it's fair for people to expect CCP to make things completely perfect because I'm not sure it's possible without investing a massive amount of money in military-grade supercomputers or hiring a very large software team to completely rewrite their network and server code - something outside the scope of CCP's finances and our patience. I won't hide the fact that it angers me when people come to the forums and make sweeping generalizations about the quality of CCP's programmers or claim that incompetence and not complex design issues are the cause of everyone's ills. People often complain, with good reason, about the level of lag present in certain situations - that's a perfectly valid form of expression. When people make posts in anger and act as if these things are a simple fix, it's very frustrating.
Valid points you make, fair enough. Personally I have issues with how CCP do business, they make be taking steps to remedy this, but I still see underlying flaws in their concept, flaws they seem unwilling to address. They could have continued to build something nice if they'd addressed the flawed foundation, instead they went ahead and built it anyway, and then continue to repaint the outside of the building without addressing whats actually wrong.
The Op has a point. Mission distribution can and should be managed to reduce lag to a usable level.
Even in the Motsu area!
It wouldn't be hard to add more star systems around Motsu and Aramachi so that there is no overlap. Using a whole node for each star system in that group. Then rigging the missions to evenly populate the now many available star systems with active missions.
This doesn't help fleet work but not everything in Eve is about alliance combat.
Note: tards who think a t1 is a fast connection should really read up on technology. 1.54mbps on a serial connection is far slower than any broadband duplex connection. Saying you have a t1 may have been cool back in 1995 but now it is the same as coming out and saying that you have a 486. So you in essence failed the 'cool kids' test and should be playing WoW where you are obviously trolling from anyhow.
put some pasta in the boiling water waited 10 mins for it to cook , strained it put it on a plate then applied the sauce and meatballs , added some parmesan . came back to my desk and began eating , cleaned the plate put it in the sink came back lit a cigarette and cr4cked a beer 2 mins later the system loaded and i proceeded to the half of the fleet that was camping 3dr and help kill a cerb that wandered in and then returned to S-EVIQ and helped rep shields
you may think the above story is just an amusing exageration , but it's not thats the sad part
I got as far as this post before giving up reading this but...
In terms of quality of service WoW is light years ahead of EVE and it was launched about the same time too, costs less and delivers more in terms of quality and performance. I don't care WHY it is so, as a customer I care to get that quality, especially since EVE costs more per month, not being told to avoid the problematic areas of a game or not to play whole screwed sections of it because otherwise I'll be bogged down into problems and somehow that would be my fault (because I was supposedly warned that the game is screwed in those regards I guess Rolling Eyes)
WRONG WRONG WRONG AND ERM WRONG!!!!!
I had been in EVE for a year when WOW was released ( i know this coz i was one of those idiots that went and bought it thinking ooo new game looks cool) after 2 months of repetitive grinding I realized how crap it was and haven't even bothered re-installing it since (this is about 2 years since I last logged on WOW)
now if you actually took your time you'll see forum posts and even players on eve from as far back as 2003 that what 2 years BEFORE WoW
I mean seriously. If it's gotten to the point that you've canceled your three accounts, then you obviously don't care about the game anymore. So if you no longer care, why do you care what we think? Look, ma, another cretin that cannot even figure out how to quote on a forum and has reading comprehension problems! Can you understand what does "quality of service" mean? It's different than what the gameplay is like and whether there is too much grinding in it - it has to do with whether WoW lagged you to death and the server disconnected you in the middle of fights every other day and Blizzard taking 3-4 years to address some issues - stuff like that, y'know! Sheesh - the idiot fanboiz one can on forums these days...
How many people played EVE when it way "actually" released? Do you know how many digits were necessary to write that number down? CCP themselves said that the game was not exactly finished at it's actual release. How many years did it take for EVE to become even remotely popular? Why? Call me cynical but for me EVE became an actual game "a bit" after it's calendar release date (which I regard as the start of it's public beta)...
Gee, it's called customer feedback, or maybe customer feedback should only be positive as in continuous praises and nothing else, eh? Maybe the point is to let others know that it's bad enough for him to cancel the accounts, maybe it might have something to do with letting CCP know that the current state is unacceptable and people get fed up with it with the presumed aim of having them actually do something about the problems? Just maybe...
Accodring to you own logic - I mean seriously if you don't care about posts telling about people leaving why bother posting at all, why bother reading them at all and since posting bumbs the post for others to have to suffer reading it why do it? Lets be positive about this, no one is ever satisfied with what they got, even I can say I have moaned in the past, but no one is perfect and whilst CCP are doing what they can to make this a good game, they have limitations. I play both WOW and EVE and I think they both are the best games out there. WOW is not perfect, realms do on occasions crash and there has been lag issues. EVE has its issues as well, lag, crashes. It is down to the quality of the hardware they use and the coding that makes the program work. So enjoy what we got.
I am just saying wow has it advantages too. There is a reason why so many people play it , its not THAT bad. I personaly came here from wow and although i am a bit dissapointed (to put it mildly) with Eve and my acc on wow is still active (brother uses it) i cant go there and play again. I prefer to mine (and thats sick ). I just dont like the attitude, "you don't like it leave".
We do like it thats why we want to be able to play it. So keep bringing it to the attention of the rest of the players may motivate CCP (which of course cares about the profits no one i am hoping disputes that) to divert whatever resources they need and fix it.
Quote: c. You should be using dsl then, it is much faster than a t1.
Note: tards who think a t1 is a fast connection should really read up on technology. 1.54mbps on a serial connection is far slower than any broadband duplex connection. Saying you have a t1 may have been cool back in 1995 but now it is the same as coming out and saying that you have a 486. So you in essence failed the 'cool kids' test and should be playing WoW where you are obviously trolling from anyhow.
I have 6 T1 lines in my office. 1.5mbs per line up and down. Straight hookup to the backbone.
It never gets bogged down .. it never comes up short.
I would be willing to bet your on cable .. and think you actualy get the 10mbs they advertise. The more important aspect here is .. I get all that upstream bandwidth. Try uploading 3gb in a timely fashion on cable.
If you are quitting EVE, go then, and stop muddling up my phorums with your RABBLE!
On another note, I am on a crappy 3m DSL line that actually tops out at 1.5 on a good day, and I rarely experience this lag you speak of... I have been running missions every night for a few weeks now and the only problems I have experienced were a few dropped connections that were being caused by a bad network cable.
OH and:
Isn't it amusing when silly forum trolls bear equally idiotic character names such as Silly Bastard (oh, the exchanging of the two letters was really to figure out...)? I mean, if you yourself name your characters that way it should not come as a surprise that you post such utter rubbish - "Hey, I've been doing solo mission in this corner of the universe 'ere and I've seen no problems (or other people for that matter most probably) so what yer saying 'ere is RUBBISH, aye!"
No, what I am saying is, if it is too laggy to run missions in the popular mission hubs, you do have hundreds of other places to go that are not as laggy.
And so what if my name is silly, WTF does that have to do with anything? At least I am not afriad to post with my main, Mr !. -=^=-
a. you are running missions in Jita or Motsu or some other known lag-town and you should know better than that.
b. you are in a HUGE fleet battle and ... let's just say WoW lags much worse with far less players on the same grid.
c. there is some technical problem with your computer, your ISP, or possibly the server which happens from time to time in all games, even WoW
b. incorrect. 300-500 people in org .. zero lag.
c. Im on a T1. I did a trace. NO problems found.
Err, just out of curiousity, but have you ever been in org for a 300+ persons raid? Lots of lag.
I think he's confusing the definition of a forum troll and someone who disagrees with his viewpoint. ------------ ULTIMATE LAG SOLUTION | Forum Whiners - Unite! |
That's mighty ironic coming from someone incapable of making a distinction between complaints and whining and thus trolling every single thread that has to do with any sort of dissatisfaction and then with one-line crap such as "can I have your stuff", someone seeing himself as the local forum crusader operative.
It's a pity you didn't give your character a more appropriate name just as he did as his name fits the stupidity of his post just perfectly, making the irony oh so much more enjoyable for me... for example Iillage Vdiot would do nicely
Running missions near suroken was a chore tonight. Respawns taking 5min or so, being unable to target things, and having wrecks appear 40km away from where a ship is popped.
Petitioned it, but it cleared up right as they responded.
