Oh thats right, the looks of these ships.
It's about Infinity. A space MMO game.
Since when can I not branch out a topic from the OP??? (Been doing it for 4 years now just fine...) If you don't want to talk about anything other than the concept art, you're done, goodbye...

Thanks for taking a look at my ship, I hope you buy one when you play Infinity.
Have a nice day :)

More ppl complain it looks like Firefly... (I finally saw the movie 2 weeks ago, I guess it resembles it...)
I never said I was a good designer...
The Thorax looks more like a Whitestar than my ship, IMO...

DarkMatter, I think you are missing the point. Again.
I never said that all EVE ships are beautiful because they are unique. And personally I don't really like most of the BSG designs, though I am a fan of the series.
My point is that EVE has a look, something that fits together as a whole. If a new ship comes out for a certain race, that ship must conform to the looks that EVE already has.
This is what Infinity seems to be lacking. A uniqueness, a look. BSG ships are ugly to me, but I can recognise a BSG ship design when I see one because it has a look. It has a style that all ships in it's universe must conform to.
Infinity can have the best graphics engine ever. It can be an amazing game. But that doesn't mean the ship designs are good. This lack of a unique style is one of the major problems that the "submit your own ship" thing brings. And it will continue to be a mish-mash of bland and generic design until someone comes up with a style for it.

Yes, that is a concern.
If I were the lead DEV, I would take in all the models that the fans submit, and have a real designer re-do them to fine tune them, make them real MMO worthy.
I have nothing to do with how Infinity will launch, I'm not a DEV, just a big fan, and excited that I get to model stuff for it, and that maybe I might come up with something good enough. (But doubt it, that T-Y9 was my first attempt, and it took me like 2 weeks, lol)
It's actually pretty hard to come up with an original design. And if you want what EVE has, you'd have to have one guy doing each "race"
I don't particularly think what EVE has is that important.
We have various car designs & styles on Earth, I'd hate for them to only be of 4 specific styles...
Every corporation on Earth has their own style for their products. It's not based on Race. I don't see why you have to constrain yourself to that in a game where there are 1000's of corporations designing & building ships...

Thanks, but I have nothing to do with it really...
I hope for all of us it does. There is nothing wrong with having another space MMO to play..

But EVE, and Infinity, are games. Real life doesn't fit well when talking about games unless the game is supposed to be an exact simulation of real life, therefore making it pointless.
But using your car example. Every car looks different, and perhaps even works slightly differently, yes. But they are all based on one thing. Take away the body, and they are pretty much the same, even though there are loads of companies working on each thing, and even though each of the components may look different or be different sizes.
Why do they do this? Because there is something that works in this world. In Infinity, surely (assuming they actually have some kind of backstory) there will be things that work. Things that ship designs need to follow in order to function as ships. This needs to be decided upon and placed as rules for the ships. The look and feel of a game is just as important as everything else in it. It's part of the complete package that makes a good game great.

Well, yes, there is a ship design document, with certain criteria you must adhere to...
As far as how the ship looks? You model something up, show it to the lead DEV, and he says he likes the style, or he says it's not the style he wants in the game...
Hardpoints, engines, thrusters, etc... All that is regulated as far as if they are needed, or where they are placed. But as far as what they look like, it's open to the designer to come up with a style...
Why should all the ships have the same armor plating, similar engines, etc? Like EVE ships... All Gallente are green, Brown for Minmatar, etc... That's constricting and not necessary IMO...
If I was the lead DEV, I would however try to group the ships up into similar styles, and make them from the same ship building corporation.
I would like to see a range of ships with similar styles, from frigate to capital ship, based on corporation style, not race style.
But you have a bunch of fans making models, and no one really trying to model what the concept artist comes up with...
Sooner or later, some one will come along and be able to model up the ships the Infinity concept artists draws, and that will most likely be how it ends up. And any of the fan made ships that look good enough, might make it into the game...

their naming of ships sucks I can tell because their "remora" (aka sharksucker, they attach themselves to larger fishes and whales) is larger in size than their "shark"

LOL, the fans name their own ships... (And when you're working on your own ship, you tend not to care what the names of the other ones are at that time)
I honestly think that they would be given proper names at a later date by DEV's...

There is one official developer who draws concept art, but not many modelers follow his art (Or are skilled enough to do so). We all want to be the hero and come up with something on our own, lol...
All the ships you see from Infinity, come from guys working on their comps after they come home form work... And that's why many of you here think they suck...
They are not done by professionals... Although, some of the guys have great talent, and are just as good IMO...

Its incredible!
I don't think S.K. IT really did much for my mental capacity.
Most of the time if I need info on say , rewiring a '77 dodge charger to fit a fuel injected engine, I can google it on the internet and not have to look it up in a book and my mental capacity can still increase.
Hell, take this website. I've read every short story here and while I remember them I don't think they increased my mental capacity.

The original post by the OP doesn't do the ships justice.
The renders for the Flamberge and the Galactos, even though they are incomplete, look professional imho. ____________ Blue Binary |

Well I thought the whole idea with a professionally produced game is that you can't do better, whereas amateurs obviously can make better ship designs than the ones shown.
It says a lot about the game tbh, it's not gonna happen.

No, wasn't me who brought up Moya. I'm just enough of a sci fi fan to know what Moya is though.
In General, Dark Matter, I don't disagree with you. I'm defending Eve partially because I don't want to admit that something I'm involved with now might suck, although sometimes it's hard to look the other way.
I will take a gander at Infinity and see what it's like if/when it's released, but I don't want to use a joystick to play. I do love flight sims, but I actually prefer the way eve handles because it's relaxing. Or would handle, if anything worked right in this game.
I fear aimbots, lag, hax, etc, plagues every twitch based game there is, and part of my love of eve is that that kind of complaint does not exist here.
I would much prefer CCP clean up their act (who am I kidding?) and re-code basically all of eve, than have to switch to a FPS style sim. So let me amuse myself calling you a fanboi (I spell it boi because it's insulting that way for some reason) and telling you to stfu because Infinity doesn't even exist yet.

Meh I've always hated eve ships. All Gallente ships look like "artistic impressions", so do many Minmatar ships, and most caldari ships are simply fugly, although some Amarr ships look good.
I much prefer ships like from Infinity. I'd really like a Battlestar actually
