Yo! I am setting up my maelstrom to be an AC "tank and spank" boat but am stuck on what to put in the Rig slots. I have heard that if 3 falloff rigs are fitted that it can hit targets at 50km with autocannons easily, but i was wondering if it is worth scrapping one falloff rig for a tracking rig? thanks for reading ______________

stafoo (stfu)
resistance rigs mate, 3 dmg mods 1x dmg cont, and either a co-pro t2 if your using full t2 in med's or the best named tracking enhancer.
normally 2x therm 1x kin therm rigs. -------------------------------------------------------- [Video] Forever Pirate 3

Man I fly Mael and in my opinion, Fallof rigs all the way.
You don 't need any tank rigs unless you want to tank a mothership. Except maybe the cap usage rig on the shield booster. Why use it and not a CCC? Simple because a CCC or Cap cell only gives 15% over the main cap . While if you reduce booster usage by 15% you are infact increasign your main cap value by 15% and also all your 800 charges.
So I would go 2 falloff and 1 cap reduction on shield booster.
A maesltrom with 6 slot tank (5 mid + DC) can tank anythign but a pure gank abaddon. So no sense on puting other rigs.
If brute force doesn't solve your problem... you are not using enough |

You can fit a MWD, scrambler, web, booster, injector, and invulnerability field and have 60% resists if you fit an EM resist and a thermal resist rig. That leaves you one slot to use however you want afterwards. For the last slot, it comes down to a choice between a falloff rig and a tracking rig. -Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire

If you want more tank than gank go for the CCCx2 to keep costs down or CCC and the Cap amount rig whatever it's called (pricey though) which actually gives better cap performance than 2xCCC.
last slot use a falloff rig.
Balanced ship with enough to tank some pretty nasty dps, takes a damn long time to kill when out numbered on camps etc and can sustain a fair amount of nos. Should be 240ish second cap recharge with 2xcc rigs.

800's in top.
xl booster/amp/em/2 x invul/ cap booster in mid
3 x gyros/ PDU II/ DCUII in low
3 x fall off rigs.
Hits to 48km with barrage and 30km with non fall off bonused ammo. Great ship in a gang. This, the same as a Sleipnir is not really made fir solo work. No speed mod needed as long range coupled with tacklers = dead target.
P.S. The guns hardners and gyros are T2 ofc. -----------------------------------------------

Interesting tank. I love running dual invul 2s myself, but do not run a boost amp due to built in bonus at lvl5 bs... do you think it tanks better that way as opposed to 10% higher thermal or whatever resist with a therm/em + dual invuls, cap booster and xl booster? Or therm/em/kin/invul2 and cap/xl booster....
Any thoughts? I found the dual invul setup to be flattest tank for me and seemed to work best.

2 x invul and 2 x amp gives better average dps tanked actually... but a matter of taste in the end I guess.
PS. Maelstrom and Rokh are the only 2 BS that can tank and dish out around 1000 dps at the same time with a pure T2 tank...

Aye. I did toy with the idea of a dual amp set up. Ended up with the emp and dual invulns through not having another amp. But it worked well, and as they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" -----------------------------------------------
