So last night we were doing a bit of hacking in a cosmos site which if you've ever been there is a bit mental and somewhat laggy.
The unfortunate mistake my corp mate made was to shoot a yellow wreck. Shortly after, concord arrived....
Well what a mistaka to maka ! But I did start to thinking, isn't it a bit harsh for concord to turn up and pwn you just for shooting a wreck ? Surely a criminal flagging of some sort to the wreck owner would be more appropriate ?

No, obviously the Cops should show up and shoot you in the face.

I like that idea. They should show up and lock you... "Please put down your weapons and come quietly." They should then warp you off to a sin bin for a while, impound your ship and charge a release fee

He may have turned it off given that a lot of his time is spent in the business in low sec.

Originally by: Thommy Probably no need to explain but i will anyway. You will get shot by concord for shooting any wreck or container not belonging to you so you cant on purpose shoot other players stuff they use or need (mission objectives, general goods, special / expensive loot) without consequences to your own.
Well I suppose there is some validity in there. Although it wouldn't be my solution. I'd rather for example, make mission objectives indestructable (many many hit points) which would solve that problem. Plus if someone wants to steal my mission objective, they can do it and no concord response. Not really fair either, yet no concord response to that.

If this wouldn't happen it be very likely that wherever you see other people you wont be able to loot anything (salvage or otherwise) because they would just keep killing the wrecks / cans.
This would be very bad for an multitude of reasons. For example you just found yourself a nice dread gurista which you kill and just can lock up its wreck and have time to perform a nscan what it dropped. It dropped an +3 implant, several dread gurista mods etc worth 1 bil total. Someone saw you getting it and knows he cant get to it first and decides to shoot it because he / she cant get it.
OK well, firstly I would expect a DG spawn to occur mostly in 0.0 so no concord anyway. Secondly, I understand where your coming from but the point I am making in this thread is the huge disparity in "punnishment" between stealing from a wreck and shooting a wreck.

Originally by: Lord WarATron If concord did not blow people up who shot cans/wrecks, you would get sniper battleships uncloak, align and do driveby's on miner's cans then instawarp out for a giggle, and people probing out mission runners and blowing up their cans for a laugh.
In either of these cases, there is no risk to the attacker.
Nothing stopping me zipping up to the miner's/mission runner's can and flipping it... by the time he's locked me I'm long gone and no risk to myself. Hell I could even flip the can and then pop my own can !
Anyway Can != Wreck so the mechanics could be different.
