I can never quite figure out how to start these, so straight to it.
The short of the inital engagement is that pure have a medium tower within 0S1-GI, a fleet began to form to take it out in addition as a response to a 30 odd man pure gang in neighboring area/small elements of that gang roaming into 0S1-GI. I will reiterate again that ATLAS/CHAOS are still on the defensive in this conflict with PURE and have to date not taken any offensive measures against PURE.
After some time of hit or miss engagements at the 74-DRC star gate in 0S1-GI when PURE jumped into system then warped off to sniper range, we caught some of there straggling targets and they caught some of ours after they moved off to optimal.
The heart of the engagement unfolded when intel of a PURE carrier came in that was sitting outside there pos force field in 0S1-GI, off about 5km. The decision at this point was clear to kill it but some hasty decisions would follow that lead to the prolonged nature of the battle. A short few minutes later intel came in that a 13 man element of the PURE gang was in 031R-6 which we had not previously noted, bringing the PURE gang to about 40 odd while at the time our gang was about 35 with superior caps.
The FC made the call for all capitals and support to align for the enemy POS and a covops was in place near the enemy carrier outside their force field. Bang, we are in warp towards the carrier and moments later the carrier is webbed by support and swarmed by drones/fighters and dreads. Here was our mistake, with the 10 odd carriers and support, there was no need for 9 dreads but a bad call came out for everyone to enter 1 siege cycle on the carrier - it melted in about 60 seconds, if that.
In land the PURE support gang, 30 odd with local jumping to about 40 odd as more pure trickle in from neighboring 031, 74- and M3-. There-after dictor bubbles land all around the power blob of capitals and support - it on, primaries begin calling out but our support numbers are only around 15-20 with the other 20 or so in the gang being capital ships.
In the course of about 30 minutes, if that we ended up losing all our support ships while the capitals remained firmly at bay from dictors. Since this battle was taking place at a PURE medium POS with minimal defenses the enemy gang was able to hug the force field and dip back into it anytime they were in distress. So we then switched off to the enemy snipers and mid-range support as primaries with carriers sending fighters off after those ships, they would warp off but orders to carriers were to be patient and let the fighters follow the enemy for a few moments. Then the mid-range enemy support left & returned to pos and started to hug force field like there peers.
The enemy sniper group kept returning but at extreme ranges, without any support left it became very difficult to even attempt to take them out. When we did try they would just warp into the force field and cozy up alongside the 5 PURE carriers that were well intentioned by not venturing outside.
At this point about 60 minutes into the battle we found ourselves at a very thick brick wall, we could not leave as dictor bubbles were all around our capital fleet but we could not take out enough of the enemy fleet as we had no more support. The enemy fleet had increased from around the initial 40 to well over 70 and local was continuing to rise. It then became clear we needed unconventional support; the decision however futile was made to bring in the Nyx class mother ship while our support gang reformed.
When the Nyx finally arrived in system it was promptly dispatched to warp into the ball of capitals when the opportunity presented itself that no dictor spheres were in the way. In the onset of the Nyx entering the field it quickly began lighting off it smart bombs and a number of enemy interdictors/tacklers blew up on contact along with a hefty swarm of drones which were nailing me.

At this time we are about 90 minutes into the engagement, we have yet to sustain any capital losses despite concentrated enemy fire on a number of capitals. However it became clear they kept gunning for my moros and at one point I was below 20% armor and bleeding structure.
A reformed support gang was ready to assist however the numbers were not appealing at roughly 20. The PURE gang at this point was around 80 with a slow trickle of pilots returning on the 8 jump trip from there outpost with new ships. There was a modest compliment of the PURE gang that setup on the incoming gates so the support gang was not getting in without a fight. Despite the odds, support was ordered to push in, they hit the respective gates and we ended up getting in roughly 12-14 of the 20 man support gang that had reformed while losing a handful of larger ships in the support crew on the way in.
At this time the support gang is ordered from a local friendly POS to hit warp and get to the capital gang, they are off. Then all of a sudden we see them drop out of warp but as expected most of them are super lagged while loading the grid. The enemy begins to shift off primary fire to our support gang, we strike off a few primaries and lend carrier repair support to those we can. In the course of about 5 minutes the support crew is laid down and we again find ourselves 20 odd capitals without support against an onslaught of the enemy, again.
More persistent fighting continues for the next 30 minutes crossing the 2h boundary, we at this time are all intact still with zero capital losses but then the next problem begins to strike; we are running out of drones, fighters and more importantly strontium. Through the course of the battle there was many inclinations to start jumping out what we could but we remained determined that random jump outs would lead to severe capital losses. However with the increasingly debilitating attrition of the fight, the battle effectiveness of the capital gang was begining to decline at a rapid pace.
The capital gang moved itself at this time into a more secure comms channel away from the blob on comms of support and lord knows who else listening in, we are confident of our members & comms but we are also realistic. So, in a more secure channel some on the fly information was gathered on the capital gang to assess our ability of getting out with minimal losses.
Another 10-15 minutes rolls by and we are still in the fight but approaching critical mass of having no drones/fighters or dread amo/stront to fight with. The decision is made, we slowly start to jump what we can out - first element of the capital gang cynos out which are most of the dreads. We end up with 2 dreads stuck in a bubble, we order them to displace while the carriers and nyx take care of themselves. The carriers then begin to cyno out leaving the nyx, 4 carriers and 2 dreads at bay then moments later the opportunity arises for 1 dread, 2 carriers and the nyx to cyno out.
There it was, 1 moros and 2 thanatos that were sadly at the mercy of the enemy gang, we could do nothing to save them. At this point and despite our best efforts we knew they were to turn into the sacrificial assets that afforded 16 other capitals to make a safe exodus from the engagement. An idea of self-destruction of the 3 remaining capitals is thrown into the air but quickly put at bay and PURE are left with the trophies of this engagement.

The problem here is simple... We'd much prefer posting battle reports along side PURE and allies rather then posting about PURE vs CI/ATLAS.
But whatever... pew pew and have fun.

I was part of the support fleet. I had turned setting off, minimized my overview and warped in with only dictors on my overview. I was dead before I loaded. That was with hardeners and armor rep on..lol. I'll petition that one. To bad we can't have true fleet battles. If our support could've gotten in I don't think we would've lost any cap's personally. Next time we'll bring more ammo/stront/fighters. Lesson learned. Good fight Pure. To bad negotiations failed with your diplomat. btw...you guys have a sick Ishkur pilot....brea or something like that. The cyclone I won't protest. I didn't care if I lost that one. At least I was able to shoot...see you on the battlefield...

Ahh well you win some you lose some. Definitely not the last battle of that size we will see considering the fact that there have been two sizable engagements in m3 and 0s1 (neighboring systems for those not in the know) goes to show how intense this is and I'd imagine is just a prelude to much worse to come. Regardless of views on who is right or wrong or what side of the line you fall on in this I have no doubts everybody is going to have a blast. (No pun intended.)
Too bad support was so limited at the time though. I don't feel as though the battle was a complete loss though. Could have been much worse.

Yeah, probably right. I just want to see folks like this BreAnna character in the NanoIshtar get nailed...once, just once that's all I ask.
It annoys me that there isn't a real tactic or ship setup that can catch this crap, unless of course you match them skill/mod/isk to do it - which isn't great.
Defensive is good, but as we all know the bravado and adrenaline get in the way and folks (Me included) will undoubtedly try to be heroic and take them down...and end up a statistic.
Diligence and patience are our key, we give them fights only when we have a good chance of winning - or don't. This way we get to bloody their noses and hopefully they'll get bored and just go away.
In either case Pure is around to stay, they have a nice large presence not far from 87- and seem to have the skills/isk to continue to throw stuff at us. From outpost alert is would seem they control 16 systems, have 4 outposts, and Constellation Sov in 88G-M4 and have Sov in the following systems in 87- region BZ-BCK (3) IUU3-L (2) and UDVW-O (2) Quote:
I hear 1 Corp in Pure is spanking your butt pretty bad.

Edited by: DUSKULL on 07/08/2007 17:22:03 Well what can I say. Bobby your a compelling writer and an ally I am proud to fly with. I sat for 2 to 3 hours listening on comms to the action as I was sort of stuck in a system not too far away. The call for more support saw me ready a ship and fit it for the cause. I made the jumps to the location and although we where numerically the underdogs we went into warp. I loaded with stuttering screen and then went booom. 15 minutes to fit, 10 minutes to arrive and 3 seconds to go bang lol. To be perfectly honest I just did not care as the one resounding factor from all of this is that we work as a team and fight as a team. No carebears, no attitude, no smack just good team fun. I am not entirely sure as what the outcome of this dispute will be apart from one fact. That is the fact that those I fly with as blue will be friends and allies till the end and that I will loose everything I have if needs be to show my loyalty to that friendship. Nice work guys, excellent write up Bobby. Atlas / CI I salute you :)
