It's widely known that gallente are specialists in armor tanking, but is it possible to concentrate on shield tank? Please, give your opinion and advice. Gallente setups with shield tanking also would be very useful :)

Myrmiddon fields an awesome passive shield.
I've heard about - but never even been tempted to look at vexors with an extender. Ishtar can do well with it, however they usually go with speed and shield.
Domi's were shield tanked back in the days, not very viable today however.

And anyway.. to do what? pvp? no way.. for PVE
Thorax, vexor and brutix? NO!! never!!

Absolutely they can. the ishtar, myrmidon, eos and others can fit monstrous shield tanks.
i believe that an eos is capable of tanking a max skilled nyx with zero cap on a shield tank  . or used to be able to anyway.

Some people fit passive tanks to Drone boats.
Unfortunately those mids are important for PVP, and Gal don't have alot of them. You're not going to have a shield tanked blasterboat with any real degree of success.

Correction, no success. Projectiles, drones and missiles are the only option is your going to passive tank. Since gallante don't have missile slots usually and no projectile bonus, most people use drones with passive tank. However drones suck for pvp in general, plus passive tank loses the tackling ewar slots.

Shield tanked Gank dominix for the utter, utter win.
6 x Guns of choice (I like using Neutrons here, but rails would probably be more efficient, especially since you have no prop mod)
Warp Disruptor II
X-large C5-L Booster
Invuln field II
Hardener of choice (I use therm)
Heavy electrochemical injector with 800s
3 x Mag Stab II
4 x PDU II or 3 x PDU 1 x Co-Pro
Mix of heavies, lights, med ecm, and med rep in bay.
The tank isn't impressive given that t2 dual-rep 5 hardener rigged fits appear to be standard, but it can certainly take and dish out a fair bit of pain.

I call that more of a Gate Domi. Add Sentry turrets, and replace your hardner for a Sensor Booster, and you get a fun Gatecamp ship.

Some ships can, for certain applications. However they are mostly pve fittings, as even the gallente ships with the most mid slots dont generally have enough slots to shield tank AND fit a web or scram.
But for PvE (or gate bait in pvp), a passive shield tanked ishtar or myrmidon works well.
Passive shield myrmidon works something like this:
Highs: Projectiles (I use 720mm arty)
Mids: Invul II, couple passive hardeners, 2 LSE II
Lows: 5 x SPR II, 1 x Power diag II
Rigs: 3 x Core Defense Field Purger
Will be slow as all hell, but it has a faster shield recharge rate than a passive tanked drake (though lower resists at high skill levels because of lack of a resist bonus). Peak regen will be around 350-400 hp per second or something absurd like that, or at least it was before the passive tanking "nerf" for BCs.

No you donÆt, well not all of them. Most passive tank modules are low slots leaving a few mid slots for EW. Assuming you need EW as not every single ship in a gang needs to do it. Saying that you do end up with less EW slots then an active tank but not zero slots.

good god, shield tanked myrms are godlike..
my current setup: (i armor tanked for a while, hence the low shield skills)
1x drone link augmentor
5x w/e (2 salvagers, 3 artillery cannons)
4x named lse's (gonna get t2 sooner or later)
1x invul field
1x t2 DCU
5x named spr's
(soon)
3x defence field purgers
it's a wee bit expensive, but i think it's worth it. with my current skills..
12906 shield 34/45/60/75 EM/therm/kin/exp
174s recharge time
