OC War Academy is a great place to learn PvP.
Ive been playing mabey a month, if i had not joined i would probably still be mining Scord in a bantam.
Great fun as always

Duke,
This looks like an incredible opportunity for a beginner! However as I am going back and forth through character creation I like how Amarr looks opposed the other races.
Duke, would you be willing to take Amarr pilots too?
Thanks you,
Sir Smythe

Nice to see that you're having fun (though I'll shoot you at sight )
Sir Smythe... My guess is no. Because Amarr are next to useless for PvP until you can fly an Apocalypse battleship (while Caldari and Minmatar has many very useful cruisers and frigates).

I'd reckon the answer would be yes, but the only reasonwe prefer caldari is that they are quickest to learn the skills neccisary for operations to begin.
Although do not take my word as finite, not sure if the Duke wants only Caldari. Reverend Necrona |

Can't I just buy Min/Cal frig skill and train those up? It looks like Amarr stats are better to train with. My Amarr has got Analitacal Mind, and you need that to train faster, right?

Sir Smythe:While Amarr pilota are welcome you will be required to leanr and pilot caldari or Minny frigs for the time being. We're constantly experimenting with the various race ships but atm we dont use Amarr... that could change.

Well this opportunity seems promising but Im a bit confused as to how to actually get involved.
As instructed in the original post I went to the OC public channel. From 8:00am to 11:30am I was there this morning trying to get some information. I'll paraphrase the exchange:
*********************************
Me: I heard this was the place to come to find out about the War Academy.
(10 minute pause)
OC: Yes
Me: Ok, so are you guys still admitting members?
(10 minutes pause)
OC: Yes we are
Me: Ok, so what do I need to do?
(20 minutes pause)
Me:(again) So what do I need to do to get into your program?
(10 minute pause)
OC: You need to talk to an OC officer.
Me: Ok, are there any officers online now I can speak to? (13 minute pause)
OC: Yes
Me: Ok, could I have their names so I can get some information.
(pause)
OC: Im an officer.
Me: Ok, can I talk to you about this?
(30 minute pause)
rinse and repeat
Me:(eventually) Thanks, C ya
***************************

So...
To avoid a repeat performance could someone recommend a specific person(s) I can contact regarding this matter?

Edited by: Balmer on 22/02/2004 19:15:46 Apologies, Coul...was very busy with military ops at the time. Did my best to try and get you some simple answers in between launching missles, and other private conversations with cadets and CA folks about operations that were ongoing at the time.
Come back and try again tomorrow when its a bit more calm.
You can speak with myself, Tholarim, Korath, our CEO, or anyone who has time really. Some of the OCU guys in oc-public may even be able to direct you some..though only an OC officer can actually recruit you.

Ermmm, well...
First, the 'exchange' script was just a bit of good natured ribbing bud... hence the laughy face after it. I have recently come out of EVE retirement to see what the game has to offer now. When I was last here I had very good experiences with OC and thats why I was inquiring in their edge of space now that Im back. I hope its sense of humor hasnt become a casualty over the past few months.
Second, thanks for pointing out that timing thing, It never occured to me people are in different timezones.
Third, I completely understand folks get busy... thats not a prob bob. BUT that the fact that I repeatedly asked the same question and waited, waited, waited while other conversations were continuing between the same people while I sat there twiddling my thumbs was discouraging to my patience.
Either way, no big deal. Im just messin with yaz. I had some nice conversations with some of the folks on the channel while I was there.
But thanks anyway... Good luck out there!

Thanks for the reply Balmer. Its unfortunate text translates tone and inflection so poorly, ie, wasnt trying to give ya a hard time... at least not in a bad way.
Anyway, hope we get the chance to talk again soon.
Take care!

Didn't see the sarcasm in it.
Admitedlly didn't see the smiley. Even so i doubt i would of made any other reply. Your post was critical of my corp, in my opinion, so i defended them, did u expect an OC member to thank you for trying to hinder a recruitment post?
Anyways welcome back to eve, hope it goes well for u. Reverend Necrona |

Well, first you put me in my place for 'undermining' your crews recruitment thread and now youve had the last word to boot.... no wait...
Now I have had the last word.
Seriously though, thanks again for your help!
ps - does this jackass exchange mean i cant join OC?

Necrona is just a breeze. If you join OC you will, soner or later, have to deal with Kayosoni. Not an OC member but a close ally and believe you me. Kayo can make a piece of rock run riot in pure rage. :-) Either way. I curse the fact that OC-U wasnt around when I started this game. sounds like a too good to be true thing but since I know the OC and know they are great people I guess anyone new to the game or to pvp just got a lucky break. Do NOT miss this opurtunity

It is a fact that many times you will not get much of a response. We run military ops nearly 23/7. It can be very distracting from chat channels ;)
However, if you are truly intersted and have some patience you'll get through. Weekends are VERY hectic as with most people the largest operations occur then. Most of our training missions are held during the week for this very reason.

I am not exactly a new player, so I don't think I need training. What's your policy on accepting "older" players?

It depends. We sometimes accept members directly into OC if they have a good source of references to check out. Otherwise they need to prove themselves through the academy first.

Well, as someone who didn't play beta, I learned fast about how combat worked from NPC killing, which I did ALOT, and then just added that I had to forsee what tricks a player could use in PvP...
But as 1. NPC killing isn't anywhere near as profitable as it was, 2. the PvP has developed much more with new rules and tactics, and 3. Most players have big ships and many skillpoints, it seems to me that it's hard for new players to learn PvP. Most of them tend to sit there and mine until they get a battleship, then travel out in low-sec and loose it right away, just to do it all over and over again without ever learning or enjoying combat.
As you're the only corp I know running something like this...

Hello OC/OCWA,
Thanks for all the help and advise so far
Balmer, Letum & Ralith have been great.
I went the website and follow a very good tutorial while at work today, but once I got to #omegacorp mIRC said no such chatroom, or something similiar.
I am nearing my training completion, 1 more week or so (including Minmatar & Caldari Cruise Missle, that's the long one) and I'll be "qualified."
Are interviews done ingame or on another mIRC?
Thanks again for all the help getting me started!
