Lately, every site I have scanned down appears to me that someone was already there. The last 2 radar sites I scanned had most of the shards destroyed and the remaining ones after hacking them had nothing in them. If I recall the last 3 radar sites I have scanned down I have accumulated a whole 4K of ISK total after selling the items! In addition, the last cosmic anomaly I scanned down and upon entering all the enemies were all destroyed through every accel. gate I went through. It seems to me that someone has just been through these locations and they haven't been for the lack of a better word "reset" again for the next pilot. I'm just guessing now since I don't understand the game mechanics and why I keep finding nothing worth my time scanning these locations. What am I doing wrong. Do I need to go to low sec for better chances of finding worthwhile sites? |

Hisec has a very dense population, so you will be hard pressed to find good unexplored stuff there.
Lowsec does indeed have more sites to explore, particularly in "dead" pockets, and the loot tends to be better too. One consideration, though, is that the NPCs defending it will be tougher. Prepare appropriately.
Another is that player pirates will be out for your blood. Watch your directional scanner, particularly for probes, and always be ready to GTFO.

Yeah that's the price of exploring in High Sec, lots of others doing it as well, and really not much you can do about it. Sounds like you were on the heels of someone else and just constantly finding their leavings. |

Thats my whole problem with moving to low sec to explore. I'm not very good with using the directional scanner yet. And I just know while I'm minding my own business and paying attention to scanning down a site I'll be "creamed" without even seeing where it came from! I realize it probably simple takes practice, but I don't see how you all scan down sites and keep up with the directional scanner at the same time.

Look for signatures in low traffic areas. Low traffic as in low number of jumps on the starmap.

using the d-scanner to watch for probes isn't really hard. You just make sure probes show on our overview and hit the scan button at 360 degrees and max range and watch for combat scanner probes...
Regardless, your other option is to find less populated hisec. It does exist. |

Look at the star map. Turn the star color to security level.
There's a few pockets of hisec that are completely surrounded by low/null sec. These are generally less populated, and quite often large amounts of signatures stockpile in them since noone runs them.
If you are using a frigate, the chances of you getting caught in lowsec just jumping from gate to gate to get to these hisec pockets is low.
And 2-3 jumps is very easily doable in a cruiser jumping from gate to gate as long as you check with a shuttle or frigate first to avoid any serious gatecamps. |
