Having played Eve for a few months now, there is one thing I don't understand!
You have Caladri flying ammar ships. And ammar flying Gallente!
If your a particular race, shouldn't you fly your own ships? Now I can see Minmator flying Ammar, for infiltration missions, but in general there must have been a reason you picked your particular race in the first place.
So, I'd like to put forth the idea of an additional skill mod. Going something like this, if your minmator you get a 1X mod to Minmator ships. To learn Ammar ships it's 2X (because of the history and storyline) and 4X for the other races.
This would keep people in there own race ships, but not completely exclude them from other ships (if they REALLY wanted to fly them).
I'd be interested in hearing any feedback on this, both the reasons for and against(I'm sure there will be pleant of them )

I dont like this idea, considering it already takes a good amount of time to learn other races ship skill trees.

Yes, there should definitely be *some* kind of innate advantage to flying your own ships. Dunno what, though ... maybe an extra 5% per skill level, of whatever bonus the ship already gives.

think they are going to add racial bonuses if you fly a ship from your own race. *shrugs* ********** Everyone deserves to die. You go first.

I beleive he is rather requesting a training time sink as opposed to enhanced training time for your own race.
A training bonus for your own races ship skill tree would be nice though.

actully flying another races ship in eve is nothing. each race is human :)
it's just like comparing americans driving german cars and japanese cars :) ________________________

Edited by: Cael on 03/02/2004 01:11:53 You guys are beating on a dead horse. In beta it was agreed that everyone should be able to fly any ship to help the flexibility of roles which allows you to train any skill and assume any "profession" you wish. Eve doesn't like restrictions, nor do I :)

Edited by: Gorbo on 06/02/2004 00:30:27 they should have it so you can learn skills that give you VERY specialized bonuses something like "gallente ship control proficiancy" that would say give a bonus such as " 4% bonus to ship speed and agillity FOR GALLENTE SHIPS ONLY and -1% speed and agility for other races ships" what you think?

It was intended to be more race restricted and we've seen hints that tech II will take it more in this direction again, I'm truly looking forward to it.
That and of course balancing ships so that gallente ships actually have any value in PvP combat.

Amarrians and Gallentians have been separated for about 30 times as long as Americans and Germans: not only that, they've been evolving on different planets in different solar systems. It's unreasonable to assume that they are all part of the same species any more.

actually, how about a compromise..
ship specific skills?
that give you a special skill for that ship only?
its still flexible (you can choose any ship) -----

you cant say. oh we decided in beta thats how it should be. the game grows . people put new imput and ideas into the game all the time . growing in a mopg is what its all about .if we decide we dont want growth and constructive change to a game . we should all play xbox etc . in the long term its cheaper on the real life wallet . but everyone here chooses to play online . because we know theres a dynamic pulse that makes it soo much more than a static normal game of the shelf .
i would like to see as a personal veiw people being encouraged too use there race pick ship in some way . bonuses would be a good way . without causing heavy penalities on people who have trained say minmater . but are gallente .
some say they dont want race too be an issue . welp sorry . rascism is prevailent in the real world . would be silly not too expect it in eve .im not gona start arguements on the wrongness off rascism . its just a fact .
amarr beleave they are seperior . it goes against his mindset too fly what he beleaves to be inferior ships.

I'll go further: it may even be justifiable in EVE, in a way which it cannot be here on Earth; because in EVE there are actually four distinct races, whereas on Earth, all human beings are members of the same species with no detectable variations.

How about americans driving in the UK then..... Theres a lot to be said for doing something you've always grown up doing against something you are new to, and ships in EVE should be no exception. Cars are aimed at specific markets anyway in RL, so not a valid comparison - americans like automatics and often have problems with stick shifts, japanese cars are tailored to Asian*****pits in Asian markets, German cars are speed regulated when exported, UK cars have the steering wheel on the wrong side for most of the rest of the world...and so on and so on
