I recently started solo'ing again after being burned out at previous attempts and what really worked for me was simply getting in a dessy. Fitting a thrasher and going to town with it. They are only about 10M isk fully fitted and have a much wider engagement group then t1 frigates.
I don't think there is any way around having to lose a lot of ships though, it's just some basic hurdle you need to get over i guess, and when you do it, you might as well do it in cheap t1 fitted rifters. But getting that first kill is pretty important as well, so perhaps when you feel you are getting tired with losing ships just get a AC fitted thrasher and go hunt for a kill. Worked for me.
Of course you will still jump into gate camps, get tackled and preyed upon by roaming gangs, etc.. etc.. But meh, that's just eve. If anyone was doing solo'ing for kbstat epeen they will probably get disillusioned fast. From what i heard if you are about to keep around 50/50 you are doing ok in terms of kill/loss ratio. I personally couldn't care less about k/l statistics, i just want to get good fights. If that means losing 10 ships to camps, blobs and falcons, then so be it.
There's also the whole 1v1 thing. I know at least some pirates in molden heath will honor that, and probably most people that take their pvp serious. I'm personally not that big of a fan of it. I rather have fights be more emergent.
Incidentally I also recently wrote a blag post about my first bright new day. |

roigon is absolutely spot on.... dont expect to live, dont expect to make isk on it, do it cheap as you can and just go out there and be super renegade. (a¦á_a¦â) ~ http://getoutnastyface.blogspot.com/ ~ (a¦á_a¦â) |

What sucks is that this really only works with the thrasher. |

Confirming you can't solo in nullsec.
Confirming FW is best way to solo ever. Not Flyinghotpocket's alt. At all. |

Sure the thrasher has that 'push-button-recieve-bacon' quality to it. But as somone new to solo'ing, actually getting a solid kill is a huge part of actually feeling like I could do this. I now feel much more fine with losing lots of ships to get that experience and RL skill to pull it off in other ships.
If your point is more that it's specifically the Thrasher and not so much the other dessies, then yeah well :eve: :winmatar: Besides, for now the dessie skill is still race-neutral so you only need minm frig to 3 or something. |

I have recently started solo-ing in low and 0.0 and loosing lots of ships but got a few memorable fights.
I 've been flying lots of types of ships from BC's to frigs but from now on I'll be using simple T1 cruisers. Nice and cheap untill I get some skillz and actually know what I am doing^^.
Sticking to 1 type of ship at the start to get a feel for it and understand how to fly it is a good idea I think. |

A shield rupture is a very good solo ship - at least in low sec. You will get allot of afs frigs and dessies that will fight you and try to outtrack your guns. Its a very fun ship to fly.
Sample ship: 425s 1 small 1 medium neut. Named mwd large shield extender and tech2 disruptor. 2 tracking enhancers 2 gyros and a dcu in lows. Rigs - whatever. Premium insurance and you are a go.
