New Ship designs look great...Time to redesign the Old Ones

Arcturus Lynx	Posted - 2007.08.13 07:03:00 - [1] I love the new battle cruiser and battleship designs for all races. The new ships just look "right" and fit much better with the 4 different races. The Drake fits perfectly with the uncreative caldari corporate motif. Linear lines, fairly geometric and looks like a missile boat that would use shields instead of armor (thin frame). The harbinger, what more can i say, a gold plated hammerhead with freaken laser beams. (Funny how Amarr ships resemble sharks and whales) The hurricane looks amazing. It looks like a fast ship and has a sleek profile. It's also got a little bit of a Star Wars Imperial star destroyer theme going on there. Very cool ship. The myrmidon looks absolutely fantastic. Truly unique and interesting ship design. This is what i would envision gallante ships would look like. The BS also look equally amazing with the way the captured the look and feel of each race. Now i also mentioned symmetry. Symmetrical ships look much better then the old ones (Moa shudder) and this also makes them a lot more fun to fly. Now we have all these new designs but what about the old ships that are too ugly to buy and fly. Just about every race has ships that fall into this catagory (especially minny ships) like the Maller, Caracal, Moa, Tempest, RAVEN. What i would really like to see now is the old ships redesigned in the same vein as the new ones. Symmetrical and capturing the look and feel of the race.

I just wish they'd fix up a few issues like the Amarr ship designer's inability to design what the rear of a ship should look like (frilly bits on the Maller, half finished construction site at the end of the Apocalypse, etc)

Eg the Dominix, one of the old warhorses of the yaddayaddayaddda... If it's old, take it out of commission, design a sexier version and put it on the market. They all just have different styles and flavors to them. Other then that, EVE ships are great, and besides updating the graphics to be more detailed etc. I really don't see any reason to redesign them.

The Maelstrom is a beautifull ship (Minmatar use all their best minerals and engineers building them and when one gets destroyed they get the scrap to build all the other ships, which actually explains the typhoon ) and hurricane? Decomissioning a line and starting a new one to replace it would be interesting, but would just end up driving up the price on the ship that was decomissioned giving it nearly faction ship rarity after a bit, but then, those aren't so rare anymore are they And other stuff needs fixed first ____________________ Hi. I'd like me some of them swinging antennas/curb crawlers, and that half deteriorated hull looks awesome. How a "drone faction ship" will fit into the backstory I don't know or care much, just find a way to bring forth a wonderous Drone Faction Domi. Actually, come to think of it, NPC Drones could well be developed into a full faction of their own, with story, bases, motives and some level of organization. What someone said about spending time in a ship helps you find the beauty of it is very true. I once thought Domi was ugly, really ugly, but now I've grown to like it, and scoff at other more elegant ship designs. Vexor has grown on me too.

Though it does have some cool features it really looks like a mishap. I actually like the rest of the caldari line - Raven and some stuff might not be the most beautiful around but they are easy getting used to. - I'm a nice guy!! MOA is NOT UGLY!!! The Thorax actually looks to me like a toy for the super-rich, a bit like a supercar - and Winterblink appears to agree; the "Thorax Model R" cartoon is a classic. Example: The hurricane looks awesome but it doesn`t look like a minmatar ship anymore. It`s looking nice fast and all but where is the rusty duct tape look of minmatar ships? The cyclone hull on the other hand does look like a real minmatar ship to me. The new designs are all very pretty but some of them differ a lot from the former designs. If that`s a bad thing or not everyoen has to decide for himself.
