What's going on? Do I have to pay to get my ( ! ) changed into my portrait??
I read somewhere they should update within 3 days. Yet it has been weeks since I registred.

You read wrong, theres even a sticky about it. The official word is something along the lines of the server grabs them at random, it may take a couple of weeks, you may have to wait a couple of months.

Grabs them at random as in no set time period. But it'll update a whole bunch of newly registered accounts when it next updates. But yeah, for the official explanation read the sticky

ccp do it in a batch, when they have enough newly registered accounts. took 6 months for me

I believe they are only generated once you post on the forums as well.
So if you wait years before you make your first post you wont have a portrait
Not sure if it is a post per account, or a post per char

Read the sticky at the top of the forum, if SOONÖ isn't soon enough for you, you can always make a sig banner with your character portrait in it and make some witty remark about not really looking like an exclamation mark in it.
And don't say I'm just acting like this because I already have my picture. It took almost 6 months for me to get mine.
