Question -
Would you trade any ship's 'bonus to kinetic missile damage' for a 3x increase in missile velocity? (Assuming missiles fired from such a ship would only fly for 1/3 the duration?)

Edit: Defender missiles would need to be changed. I would suggest that they work like real missile counter-measures which distract or confuse the on-board guidance systems. ----------

No, because the DPS is too low already, tbh. And picking damage types is a myth that does not happen in "real" combat.
Also, the "alpha" provided by Kinetic HML is too important to give up when trying to kill Ogre II's hammering at your shields.

Something along the lines of this. Choosign damagetypes is def. not a myth - it is however not always applicable.
Don't remove the bonus - lower the flight time of missiles and add in another skill that increases flight velocity.

If you take the time to plan ahead you WILL have the luxuary of picking your damage type, If you get ambushed or attack recklessly then no your probably not going to be able to pick your damage type. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Caldari needs more damage AND faster missiles.
Either both, or nothing at all.

I'll preface this by saying that I'd like to avoid seeing this thread derailed in such arguments before halfway through the first page.
That said... your above quote essentially says that missile users will have the luxury of picking their damage type about 50% of the time... meaning that 75% of that time missile users will be throwing away their kinetic damage bonus.

Kin, Exp, EM are the only "important" damage types. Thm is a middling resist that often gets additional resistances. EM / Exp are known "holes" in various types of tanking.
So in planned combat, you'll throw away your Kin bonus 66% of the time. In unplanned combat, your Kin damage bonus is only useful about half the time. So, yes, I think the Kin bonus is bunk, but no, I'm not willing to trade it for faster missiles.
Faster missiles are unbelievably important, and deserve their own boost wholesale. Also, the reason that the alpha damage is so important is because it puts the drone into mid armor before the owner has a chance to recall it.

Send in your baitship, equip a ship scanner, note that the opponents dread got a weakspot in thermal, abuse it.
You're pirating in period basis. Ratters are likely to be tanked to Em and thermal, most ratters fly ravens,(and youll see what kind of ship it is while in warp) - use kinetic or explosive.
You probe down a missionrunner in a Guristadeadspace, hes flying a domi - use explosive.
See the point?

Ok, I take it back then. I was, of course, assuming that we would be fighting PVP fit ships. So, I take it back 100%. 75% of the time, you'll be throwing away the Kinetic bonus. You are right, of course.

Ignorance and sarcasm goes a long way. Short way if you want intel and make use of the ability to choose damage type. Your loss.

Its not my loss. Trust me. I'm perfectly competent in flying missile ships in PVP. Most of the time, though, I engage PVP fit targets. Its ok, I know you wouldn't understand.
( Seriously though, stop being a jerk.
This isn't about whether you think I know or don't know how to PVP and pick damage types. Its just that those 3 damage types are specifically the best damage types unless you're picking on a ratter / mission runner that's tanked towards them. You'll know this because of the area you're in or the wrecks on scan.
And in downing a Dread with a bunch of BS, I assume you'll have time to get someone in a rifter to come thru and scan him for resist holes. The fight will certainly last long enough that the 12-13 seconds to reset your missile launchers is worthwhile. On the other side of the coin, PVP is usually a fast affair, and 15 seconds of not firing is several thousand damage you have to make up. Better make it count, and you better have your intel right. );

Rather then 3 times velocity I'd rather have 2x velocity and 2x explosion velocity, unless by "velocity" you mean both explosion and travel speed.

Missle dps is to low to swap a dps bonus for a flight time bonus to be honest. I would much rather see a buff to missle flight time all together, or a midslot/lot slot mod that increases said speed; much like guns have a mod that increases optimal and tracking.

In the nature of all "damage mods", it'd definitely have to be a low slot mod. But it's a *FINE* idea.

No but I'd trade the current missile velocity bonus for it.

Everything Caladari seems to be a fight for every dps you can muster, so no I wouldn't trade.
I'd love to see the 10 flight time swapped to 10% velocity though. --------------------------------- There's a simple solution to every problem. It is always invariably wrong |
