Vista can burn in hell thanks.
man your posts are interesting.
anyways, everyone said the same about xp. everyone still uses it now. it's better than running mac OS 10... shutter.
to bad vista is all looks, because this sounds kinda cool. anyone want to make one for xp? and not EvE mon I mean like a desktop background that monitors everything. maybe even through eve-mon?
guess I'll have to make this one myself.
Just make a Samurize script or the like that does it.

You may spit on Vista as much as you want, but sooner or later you will HAVE to use it.

True. But that will be latter than sooner. After one year of polishing :) Right now Vista is still using too much of resources and produce a lot of pain in the a*BEEP*s on some configurations.

I'm an IT professional and have been using Windows since 3.1 back in the day and Vista since early beta.
I can honestly say that with new hardware, Vista is more stable than XP, runs just as well, and definitely looks nicer. I have absolutely nothing against it. I wouldn't say that it has many benefits over XP, but in general my XP machines were much less reliable than their vista counterparts.

De-railing my own thread a bit, but I totally love vista. Never had a problem with it, and only have 1 or 2 minor driver issues, which I can live with.
I have a definite feeling that a lot of the vista grumblers are just hopping on the band-wagon to try and sound cool, and haven't actually tried using it for any length of time (if at all).
Each to their own I suppose.
BTW, this runs very happily alongside EveMon. I use it as a quick glance reference to save having to mouseover the EveMon icon or open the program.

Been running Vista64 since March with very few problems. I would nnever advise upgrading an existing PC to vista but if buying a new PC with decent specs you might as well go for it.
I remember the hell that was going from Win98 to WinXP virtually no existing software worked, I think over 90% of my existing software worked with XP.

this is a very nice gadget indeed!
the only reason i've got windows on my computers is the fact that there is no viable option for running eve on linux (the next patch can screw it all so windows is a nice security to have)!
since i the only thing i do when i boot windows is play eve or switch skills it great to put some sense in this sidebar and make it eve related to!
thanks for that hint man! |

Perhaps, you mean Windows 2000? Because by the time of XP release all software, but old DOS (and even DOS in a DOSBOX) worked perfectly on XP.

That guy moaning that vista makes you confirm everything before you do it needs to take his computer back to a shop and move to a farm somewhere and never use one ever again.
It really gets on my rag that people complain about somthing you can simply turn off by unchecking a tickbox somewhere. Its like me complaining that eve looks all mushy cos its not running at the native res of my monitor because im too pants to press esc and change the resolution.
on topic, cheers for the link i might actually turn sidebar back on for the first time since installing vista :)

Vista runs rather smoothly for me it's the small annoyances that are getting to me.
No IIS. I just found that strange. Searching. As far as i can see you can't tell it to "search here" for stuff on your hard drive.
Missing add/remove programs icon in control panel. I know they changed it to program management or something else but why.
It just seem that they went out of their way to annoy me by hiding stuff that I used all the time.
But, that being said the new hibernation mode is awesome, the instant on feeling by itself makes is worth tolerating the other annoyances.

In my country most are using XP, so dunno really what are you talking about. As for home PC's Vista will become requirement faster than you can imagine. I gotta remind you: DX10 is Vista only.

1. Most people don't care about DX10. Most people aren't gamers. Most people who get Vista will get it with a new computer, or will get it because it looks pretty. Most people don't even know what DX10 is.
2. DX10 will work fine on Windows XP. The reason that it was supposed to be Vista-only was because Microsoft wanted to include graphics memory control in the kernel, which would require a number of kernel changes, making it impossible to install on XP without serious modification. However, this was delayed to DX10.1 since ATI and nVidia couldn't get it implemented in time. Moreover, this means no existing cards are even compatible with it.
3. All games except Microsoft games will work fine on DX9, because nobody wants to alienate the 88% of people who aren't planning to buy Vista any time in the near future. And those Microsoft games, like Halo 2, will run fine on XP anyways.

I had the same negative sentiments about Vista as many here, and for the same reasons--resource hog, slow etc. Bought a new laptop which came with Vista of cource. Decided to give it a twirl for a week before installing XP. Was initially slowish with 1 gb of ram. After adding a second gig, performance improved dramatically. After a few months of using decided to switch to XP. No noticeable speed up while I started missing many of Vista's small UI enhancements. Went back to Vista. Here's what impressed me most. The first driver I installed was wireless. Then I had to take a brake during which it DLed an update. With the update it found on the web and installed all the drivers, including for printer and tv card! I was floored. I don't remember a single time where XP was actually able to find a driver on the web. Moral of the story--Vista is actually nice if you have the hardware to run it.

Nice little widget, OP. 'Course, I'm still partial to EVEMon :)
Widgets, like most everything else from MS, was copied from the OSX dashboard. To the dude who would rather "shutter" than use OSX, maybe you should have said "shudder." That's why you use Windows.
[Vista] You've used a word in the wrong context. Confirm or Deny. <--betcha wish it would do that, huh?
You peeps using Vista - you say it's better, are you truly happy clicking confirm / deny on every event that the OS runs? Yep, as long as it looks good. I bet you're the same people that are going to vote for John Edwards for US President b/c you like his hairdo.
All in good fun, mates.

Boy, MS screwed the proverbial poochy there, didn't they? What an insult to gamers.
I used to be a fanboi of MS. When Vista and Office 07 hit, I put them on my 'chines. I soon found out what Adam must have felt like right after biting the apple, if you believe those fairy tales, as I immediately knew that I had been seduced by something pretty that, ultimately (pun intended), was evil at its core. I lost control of my machine, my programs, my resources.
[tangent] MacBook Pro w/bootcamp 4tw. When XP XPires I'll be on to OS's that have a big pair of hooters (look reeeeel nice), let ME call the shots, don't pester me about decisions that an OS as advanced as Vista *should* be able to figure out for itself (DUH-corrupt kernel? repair it like OSX and shut up already)...and don't get me tossed out of my nice comfy garden because they're so incredibly evil underneath. Note that in RL I'd actually do most anything for a big pair of hooters, and I'm talking about saving endangered forest fowl, mods :) [ /tangent]
Look, leading your DX10 games for windows initiative with a 4 year old console port is about the most insulting thing that you could do, and it sends the message that gamers aren't important to MS.
Ok enough of that, did you catch all the references?

I have vista x64. I do not have to click confirm/deny for every event that runs even since install. Also there is a nice little option to disable that :)

Come back in a year and tell us how 'most games are running fine' on XP. The upcoming games are already comes in a two versions: dx9 and dx10. Yes, you will be able to play them on XP, but if you want to get better (and I must say MUCH better) graphics then you better be running them on Vista usign DX10 cards.
Vista will fully replace XP just like XP replaced Win2000 and 98 in the past. We don't know how soon will it happen, but it WILL happen.
