Well after going through all the threads and adding to many of them with respect to griefing, I've decided that Eve sucks. There seems to be an over-abundance of Virtual Sociopaths in the Eve Universe. It's an utterly depressing place to spend my spare time. It must be like this living in a run-down ghetto surrounded by drug addicts, prostitutes and gangsters. I've checked my subscription stats and I've paid around ú100 to CCP so far (including box)! Why!?

There is not an over abundance of griefers it just they are the guys you will hear more about. You will most likely find for every guy that so called 'griefs' there is 200 who just interact in a faily none agressive way.

Simplistic answer: Yes
The complicated answer that you don't want to hear:
Eve is not a game where everyone cooperates towards a common goal. The game is designed to grow and thrive from when people do not cooperate. You may work together with your corp or with an alliance towards a goal you all share.
But the game is what happens when your corp or your alliance meets a group opposed to your views or your methods or is after the same goal. That IS the game.
There is small scale cooperation. But on the larger scale, the game is about the conflict between competing groups. Attempting to label the people playing that game 'Virtual Sociopaths' is only an attempt to cover your own overlyidealistic naivete.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

Let me ask you this, why did you start playing in the first place? Was it the potential for combat? Did the allure of mining every night grab your attention?
My point is this, what would eve be without PvP? A mining/market simulation. Ask yourself what you are looking for in a game, specifically EVE. Answer that question honestly, and then decide. If you decide you want to fight, but are just tired of getting ganged up on and ganked all the time...join a large corp or even a mega corp. That would give you the potential to mine is safety if you choose to do so, or to fight in a fleet with good protection.
Bottom line...if you're in a small-mid sized corp and not in an alliance (I can see below ur avatar that you are not in a large corp), you will get picked on and bullied by 'sociopaths' as you call them and not be able to do much about it. Join a larger corp and do whatever you want.
Eve is what you make of it. That statement is very true. ------------------------------------------------

Exactement. It's all about competition...but not only in the pirating/killing way. Mining and selling minerals, producing items, researching ... everything is Player vs. Player (Corp vs. Corp). That's why I am playing Eve. Working together? Perhaps, sometimes, in small groups. Playing against each other? YES... !! :)
There are not many other MMO's allowing this...except those where PvP stands for "Combat only".

I don't disagree with what you are saying. I'm not sure this is the kind of game I can get along with. I played beta up to last July, quit then returned to see if things had improved. Imho, the attitude of a percentage of this game universe has got **worse**, not better. I just find it a depressing place to hang out. It's even worse than my local snooker hall and I go there once a week - why, I don't know that either!
Edit: I didn't make myself too clear initially - the game is fine imho, it's some of the people in it (usually shouting the loudest) who make it bad.

Lol Dawson, I read about that. It was kindof funny but not as funny as when Ens was in the championship and his closed frigate formation of wingmen was taking hits from his own missiles.

Actually, the Virtual Sociopaths was a quote from a psychology paper. Interestingly, many people I have spoken with about this agree, although some might be wondering if they fit the profile. It isn't just Eve anyway, most mmorpg's, chatrooms, forums, whatever have them. If you don't fit the profile, there is no need to be offended by it.

No one wants to fall behind in the skills race. Many hate the game (there are countless threads which testify to this) but the idea of walking away from the ivestment they've made contradicts everything that attracted them in the first place. It's like waiting for a late bus, if you start to walk you just might miss it and if you hadn't bothered waiting you'd be there by now. The only cure for this conundrum lies is discovering the 'next best' space mmorpg. Until then we hang out in Eve checking out watches b*tching like wh*res.
