It would seem that the majority of people across all types of forums use Adobe Photoshop to make signatures. My question is which one?
CS3
Premier
Elements
There's so many different ones on Adobe's website, and they don't come out and say they do signatures, although I assume they just need the ability to edit photos. CS3 is way expensive and I don't believe everyone is running around with this high priced copy of Photoshop. The Premier and Elements are both around 75-100 USD in my area, and that's more in my price range. Either one of those versions do the job? I'm just alittle confused when I see people ask what program, and they get the answer Adobe Photoshop, because there's 20 different Photoshop programs on Adobe's website.
So any help for me, would be grateful.

Premiere is for videos, not images.

Would Elements be my choice then? Premier does video and CS3 does everything.
And on a related note, when someone says they have Photoshop 5, 6, 7, etc., is that what CS3 is, eg. Photoshop 8, or whatever.

CS3 is the latest version, and I'd get Photoshop CS3 before I'd get elements.

Most people that make sigs either as a hobby or for isk use Photoshop CS2 or CS3.
If you see a silly-ass signature it's probably made with a free program such as paint.
In reality though with enough experience you can make decent sigs with free programs, but you don't have nearly the same amount of functionality and ease of creativity as you do with something like Photoshop.
I've been using Photoshop for a few years now, and it's pretty easy to use.

Alright, to make sure I understand you correctly. When you say you use Photoshop, you are using, specifically Photoshop CS2 or CS3? That is the 500 USD + version, what is Elements, and can it do signatures? I will have to give up this whole idea if the only version that can make signatures is Photoshop CSx.

I use photoshop for my sigs, i use 7 here at home and CS at work.
Photoshop 8 is the same thing as CS, they started calling it CS (Creative Suite) cause i guess they started packaging it in a suite with other programs such as illustrator. CS2 is creative suite 2, with a few addons and additions, and CS3 obviously is the latest revision.
if you cant afford to buy it, Use GIMP. Its a free program designed to mimic photoshop and to even function and look like it.

Gimpshop would be better as clone of photoshop. Its based off of Gimp, but its specifically created to be clone'ish of photoshop.

There's also free Paint.NET. As can be seen from the name it requires .NET.
If you dont have experience with Photoshop, you should start with one of the free programs as they can do everything Photoshop can, for free.

CS3 Here, but before you go and buy it id suggest that you use google. A quick trawl will find you a much much cheaper version.

And Nova Z, try the Gimpshop version linked above. It's a lot more similar to Photoshop's interface than the original Gimp.

Ok someone has to let him in on a little thing called piracy. Get photoshop CS2 for free (i.e. you don't pay a penny and you get the full version) off bittorrent.

I still have an old Uni copy of Photoshop 7. As I rarely do any picture editing I'm happy with a copy of Paint Shop Pro X I bought off Amazon for cheap about 2 years ago. Photoshop is overpriced bloatware these days. They pack it full of unnecessary **** to try and justify charging people ú500 for the latest version. Same as Dreamweaver. I used to love Dreamweaver until Adobe took over. Then they started adding so much needless junk to it until it's the resource hog it is today. I feel sorry for Vista users who are running older machines and also have the misfortune of having to use any Adobe CS3 product. A crash is virtually imminent.

Don't fork out on Photoshop until you've at least practiced a bit with the 30 day trial version. If all you're doing is sigs then ú500 for a piece of software is hardly worth it. Just get GIMP, Paint Shop Pro (the poor man's Photoshop but almost as good), or even Paint.NET.
