Edited by: Mikelangelo on 07/02/2004 05:09:17 Regarding this....
Quote: The trick is this: how do you restrict numbers? Allow in only the first X participants to show? So the event ends up being for one guy that heard about it, and his corp buddies. Limit advertising? You run the risk of not giving some people a chance to play.
You get let's say 10-20 people in an area of space around a planet, or an object or whatever. At THAT point you ask the players if they wish to continue to a "tactical node" (or whatever you wanna call it. You DUPLICATE the area in memory and spawn it on another node, and the only people there are THOSE people, and the NPC's and geography that was there.
The original node stays intact, including geography, MINUS those people, and can spawn another thread based on the same principle.
Lag problem for 100+ ships, missiles, planets, cans, pods and stuff solved.
It's called customized content. Spawn another thread for a region of space, dump it on another cpu that's not being utilized to capacity. Other MMOG companies out there have already done it.
It's time to quit relying on empty promises of functionality and start delivering. The technology is out there already.

You're right i dont like this idea. Why? coz i've been here a while now and have all the skills and experience IMO to fly a BS well. The problem is i dont have the cash to do so and it may take a while for this to happen, whereas a noob joins a corp and gets rushed up to fly a BS and gets in ahead of me, i dont feel thats fair add to the fact that a cruiser is still in the right hands a very powerful ship. =============================================

Some valid points have been aired, some I like and some I don't. What troubles me most is what seems to be indifferance on behalf of CCP and related parties. Yes Hobbes posted here. His post indicated that it was possible to modify the node structure so that there would be less lag and that this was implemented from time to time. Why on earth don't they do it every time there is a large scale event?
Pann posted a locked sticky which was basically telling people to stop petitioning for reimbursments. She said that non-roleplayers could be banned from events, never seen that happen. Just like some of the biggest known exploiters in the game are STILL not banned. I personally would love to see some action in that department. The people that keep saying "Why is your text blue?" have obviously no reason to be where they are.

when the GM's don't oversee the events they really can't enforce any "rules" now can they? It's all really a matter of effort. On anohter note if you do get poded by the griefers does ccp replace your stuff now seeing as it's not allowed??? _______________________________________________________ Get custom sigs and graphics done here Unforgivn Website

Actually, something cool happend for me :) I launched one torp, and somehow 50 of them came out of my ship, one battleship was gone in under 20 seconds from that one "uber" torp :) didnt have any other problems aside of the normal lag, all my weapons worked, all my mods, no crashes, etc... then again, my pc is built for 3d rendering, I'm a freelance artist, soo that's prolly why.

this probobly means taht all the lag is clientside, doesnt it? wihch directly points me at there should be a lot more graphic options for us with lesser computers (p4 1.9 ghz (willamette core) 512 rdram, gf3 ti200 64mb, 512kbps adsl), shouldnt it? especially some special code, to reduce all graphics drawn in huge battles? --------------------------

Well, im sure there were problems, I hope you guys at CCP don't take the whiners to heart though. Things like this make the game fun and interesting. Although I could not attend due to the fact that I was too tired, following the storyline over the last week and being surprised with an event is very cool, and fun.

I would have love to been there for the festivities but stayed cleared due to every player in Eve going there.
I agree that lag is a problem when large number of players gather in a specific location, add graphics, combat, and everything else and it makes it fustrating.
I agree with an earlier post that when CCP holds an event that they are few and far apart. Like previouly suggest that there should be multiple events happening in seperate parts of the Eve universe to lessen the strain on a particular node.
Eve is particular a fun game because it is ever evolving. But, CCP must also remember there is a limited number of things to do, i.e: agent missions, mining, trading, pirating,... etc etc. Whenever one of these events take place they break the monotony of the NORMfor us. I recommend trying to set up multiple events to lessen the stress on a node to prevent lag during these events, this in hope to make it fun for all that participate. ______________________

I did not notice any super lag on my side during this event.. For the most part everything was running smooth for me.. I had a friend say that he was lagging bad and I was right next to him.. I was running in real-time with no such lag.. I think alot has to do with the computer you have.. Especially when all those graphics start going off during a fight.. If you don't have a video card that can push all those polys you will get lag, but it will be on your end.. I really enjoyed this event, heck I was even there with my Alt character and was shooting "Fatal" with a starting civilian laser.. He even commented on it, pasted it back in the local channel (the damage report) and laughed that I hit him perfectly for 10.0 damage.. Now it's time to weed through the pictures I was taking and pic the best ones to post somewhere..

Good work Llyka Boo, even with a civilian gun. I couldn't lock Fatal due lag, so i had NO shot. Couldn't understand it, massive lag at the gate with only 5 ships there and i have cable. Lots of ships were destroyed of this lag. In the beginning of the fight, i even couldn't turn my ship, and that with all those rat BS in front of me.

erm.. see now you've gone and mixed this with a whole other part of the event than what we are talking about. It's posible that there wasn't as much lag later in the event because so many of us are expressing frustration over how things went at the start. How many were local when Fatal and the Rabbit were there?

How about multiple synchronized servers on event areas? I.E Blading out to say 10 servers to calculate what is happeneing and keep track of players in that zone on event days. Or perhaps events can be set in multiple zones. Say one zone has the assault team. The other zones would be the supply lines for the assault team/communications/reinforcements/(insert army assault force function here)/etc
That way it would be more like a multi-tiered/ full-scale assault, with multiple strategically placed strike forces all each their own threat in their own way. It would also break these events into multiple zones thus hopefully spreading out the players and lag is less of an issue then.
I would also like to see other classes becoming useful in the events. Perhaps a tech needs to be researched off of a drop? Or supplies need to be run as well as the combat for the "Good Guys" to truely win? Perhaps double-sided events could happen where "Bad-Guys" and "Good-Guys" and competing against each other for the win and ultimately deciding whether innocent people are killed or enslaved or if the tyrants are beaten back with heavy losses. Events like these would be awesome. If, of course they are possible to implement.
Just my 2 cents
