Verite, I mailed you a small code addition that "might" solve the adjacent title overlaping problem. Or at least, reduce its occurance.

Originally by: TheAdj For when you get back from vacation, any chance you do can do something to fix my alliance being overwritten by DMC? They have a single system and its tagging it with their name, whereas we have a quarter sized piece of the map. DMC's name is written over ours, and it actually got worse today, you can't even see our alliance tag unless you happen to know it's supposed to be there. Great work despite our current situation though, by far the best looking map currently.
I wrote the Alliance name code in such a way that it basically finds any alliance blob and names it at the center of that blob, shifted down slightly.
I did do another version that alternated adjacent blob's names up and down a few pixels, but Verite said that while it fixed some overlaps, it made some new ones overlap. Basically, damned if you do, damned if you don't.
It would be easy to exclude the name of small blobs completely, but I really don't know if that's the best solution to the problem. Maybe for blobs only a few pixels in size it would be appropriate. That's upto Verite to decide though. =D
Specifically fixing any one title though, is out of the question. It is, and needs to remain, a fully automated process.

Yeah, because all the different alliances have been turned into a couple big blobs, the overlaping influence is really overpowering. Maybe turn down the influence generated by each system by 50% or so for this specific map.
As far as the power blocs go, perhaps it would be useful to actually still show some semblance of the individual alliances involved. Like, leave BoB seperate from its allies in the BoB blue. Then instead of different colours for its allies, make them a different shade of blue, but maintain thier names on the map. The exact locations of thier allies territory isn't such a big deal, as the normal influence map is still there to double check.
Keeping all the alliance names from the influence map would really help get more information across though.

I have a little bit, but that's a significant pain in the butt because each color needs to be programmed in manually; this is supposed to be a fully automated map, and having to manually program in the blocs is already bad enough as far as that's concerned. If I get any free time this weekend to work on it, I'll see what I come up with.
Not nessesarily. How are you manually putting in the blocs now?
If you have a list of them or whatever, then you can simply save the power bloc leader's colors. Lets just say for instance, BoB and RA. Then when you load the alliances, check the list to see which bloc they are in and set the colour there to the same as the bloc leader, which you've saved as a couple variables. This would be instead of setting thier colour to the output of the resultset from the DB query under the //load alliances part of the code.
If you want to vary the colours slightly, then just for each block reduce the intensity a bit for each one. Don't think it would be too hard to do it.

Hmm, looks like Evoke might need a colour change if they stay in Fountain right next to Bob. It looks to me like they're identical colours. Whatcha think Verite?

The new powerbloc map is pretty good Verite, although I think the colours could maybe use some work. Would it be possible to use different shades of the same colour for the different bloc members?
Its still much better than having all the different alliances melded into a couple of blobs though. But with them all the exact same colour its a bit hard on the eyes.
Another possibility would be to retain each alliance's normal colour from the influence map for the alliance name only. Maybe surround the names with an outline of the bloc colour. The part of the code that draws the alliance names does this already but uses black for the background/outline colour.
Maybe that, with the different shades for the territory colours would work better.

Just curious, but any plans to try to work in FW sov in the "battleground" (so to speak) systems? Assuming that data is available that is.
