I wish I'd had time to volunteer. ISD were cool 
Less cool for deleting a post, but still in positive balance, as things go

I am intrigued what will happen to events. The ISD events team have been the only official RP I've ever actually seen. I hope it comes out of these changes fighting fit.

Very much this. Seeing as I spend more time on these OOG forums than I do actually playing, losing the forums would actually make me consider cancelling my account. Not because of megadrama, but just because I consider EVE-O value for money, even when I'm not actually in the mood to play (which, according to the Devs, is about every 7 months for most people). Not sure I could justify paying for the bits when I'm not playing, if I didn't have these forums for whoring.
Is it a sign of how devastating a concept that'd be to me that it didn't even occur to me when reading the blog / thread?

Which forums? We've already lost Buy/Sell/Trade. That was probably the most trafficked part. Other than the clownshow that is CAOD there's hardly anything left that requires moderating or is even worth visiting... 
I just checked, and really shockingly, you're right. Sell Orders = 89736 topics, General Discussion (which I assumed was the most trafficked) = 77970
