Empire: Total War
Its set in the 1700s and 1800s, and we finally get some Navel battles.
Not a big fan of the time period, I would of preferred an ancient China or another Feudal Japan game, but it should still be pretty awsome. ------

Edited by: Gamer4liff on 22/08/2007 20:41:24 That's awesome, and yeah I like that they have naval battles.
Seriously though I wish they'd just skip ahead and do world war 2 total war, or something.
Here's to hoping the AI isn't dumb like it is in medieval 2 total war.

Awesome to finally get some naval battles but from the screen shots that's all it is. It'd be nice to see screen shots of the other things they talk about in the features. It'll be interesting to say the least.
Although, like the Tarquin, I would have much preferred an Ancient Chinese setting or a Feudal Japan setting. ---------------------------

That wouldn't really be interesting.. I mean, there are hundreds of WW2 games out there.

But theres not really that many WW2 RTS style games. The only one off the top of my head is empire earth and I hate playing against the computer in WW2 and up because then I gotta deal with 300million nuclear bombers.
I would like the idea of a RTS where you have to take certain points to get to your goal.

Yup, I am deffo looking forward to the naval battles. Oh and btw .. War Leaders will be out Q4 2007. From what I could gather so far, it's Total War meets WW2. Looks good imo.. __________

A 2 by 2 square of AA gun things, with gun/range upgrades will kill a nuke bomber before it gets to you. The problem, is that your AA has to be in front of your land-based defenses... and so any attack that comes through just rolls over your AA guns.

Yeah at that stage I build the wall then on the outside I place down towers every other space. Then I put AA guns inside those spaces. After that I usually have a couple 2x6 groups of AA guns in between me and the nearest airport. If the ai doesn't send in troops to take em out then sometimes I'll get a line of 15 nukes flying in and while I get the first couple the last few generally wipe the entire front of the base which means my peasants have to go rebuild.
My other nuisance are snipers. For some reason on my games it doesn't warn me when snipers start shooting AA guns and by the time I see whats going on theyve already taken out half of them.

I've been a big fan of the Dark Ages since reading the Warlord Chronicles and the Saxon Stores....such an awsome author. I'd love to see a full fledged Dark Ages: Total War. Barbarian Invasion was almost that, but not quite. I don't that will ever happen though.
I, and a lot of other people, were really hoping for a Shogun 2 as the next game, but I'm not disappointed. ------

Try Rise of Nations on for size. Basically an (better, IMO) Empire Earth distant cousin. The key difference between RoN and the Age of Empires / Empire Earth RTS games is that "cities". once built, become permanent capturable points to fight over. Gives a real sense of territory to the whole affair. --------

While this is true, there are none that capture the scale and management concepts of a total war game.

I can wait for Shogun 2 if it means getting the Napoleonic wars, all that naval warfare, muskets, rifles, gunpowder, treason and plot Looks really promising and, if the Total War series has shown anything it's that they can live up to those promises. Excited already - am off to finish reading Neal Stephenson's Quicksilver and the rest of the Baroque Cycle to get the flavour of the age
