I have moved my mining operation to Amarr space, in hopes of mining Kernite. However, most of the asteroids here are small, containing only 3000 units of Kernite. Is this the average for Empire Kernite asteroids, or am I finding an already mined rock? I was hoping to find some more considerable asteroids, but I am fearing this is as good as it gets in Empire space. Currently I am mining in Kador Prime, which is 0.6 space. Is it more likely to find larger Kernite asteroids in say 0.5 space? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thats what I was afraid of, the most I could find was 8 rocks with only 2000-3000 units each, which is not worth my time. O well, I will just have to wait for my Hulk so that I can move into low-sec. One other question though, at what security level does the Kernite/Omber start to appear in significant ammounts?

losec has more kernite, but has other slightly more valuable ores as well.

Try systems off the beaten path, 0.5s in particular, deadends without any good agents are good.
If you're really crazy (and have the standings and a freighter) you can set up a Small POS with a bunch of corp hangar arrays in a stationless system, dump the ore in the arrays (only need one online at a time), and then freighter it to a refinery. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. After some more searching with no luck, I have just decided to return to Caldari space and keep on mining plagioclase. In 40 days I will have my hulk, so at that point I will move into low-sec to mine with my corp.

you ether have to be there right after the reseed or go to low sec, the macros have sort of taken over amarr. ------------- Hadean Drive Yards

I have noticed alot more miners going thru my normal system in Amarr space. Kern used to be plentiful in that system, now, you have to catch it on respawn days, or at least shortly after. However, I've only seen macro's come thru once, so I'm not gonna jump on the "blame all my problems on macros" bus.
But like I said, have seen way less Kern lately.

so its best to mine after downtime? I may scout one day and see if they are larger, but the thing is, every roid i went to was small, and people normally finish them off.

in 0.0, kernite roids tend to be over 100k in ore large

The loot that Gurista rats drop produce far less Mexalon than the armor mods and cap booster changes that Serpentis and other races drop. Serpentis rats drop 1600mm plates, giving you 12-14k mex per plate. Hell, missile launchers drop from Guristas all the time... and they refine for 0 mexalon.
All that to say that I've started mining Kernite to supplement my mexalon supply, and on top of it taking ages to mine enough for ship production, I have seen loads of Kernite roids of the 20k plus variety... even in station systems (though mostly at off-grid belts). But, even in the normal belts, I routinely get several cycles with my hulk before the roid pops. -----------------------------------------------

The problem I'd say is your in Kador prime, a busy system. Find one out of the way and you'll be better off.

Yea see I only checked in kador and a few surround systems. I was already 14 jumps out, and didnt want to stray too far because I still had my hauler to bring back. Does anyone know of any less-populated systems in Amarr space? One thing is in every belt were guristas, meaning there werent many people ratting, and there were only 20 people in local... I guess I just found the remnants of previous miners.

Domain is usally a good region to go to as well, I won't name any systems, as the second I do they won't be good anymore, but they are out there :)

saw loads of named kernite, all the basic kernite was taken and freightered up to storyline mission hubs, although no idea on how many units per roid there were.

Edited by: Maglorre on 30/08/2007 11:58:25 There is loads of Kernite in Domain, Kor-Azor and Genesis even in high sec.
Get Ombey's 2D maps and study them. Look for little dead and pockets with 0.5 systems and go check them out. I won't name any systems because as someone else said as soon as you do they will be stripped but they are there.
The further away you get from heavily populated areas the more you will find. People are lazy.
If you really want to live it up then study the same maps for low sec systems. There is some really quiet, out of the way systems where hardly anyone goes. I've mined in low sec systems for hours without seeing another soul in local.
